  • BTW to Virtual1Guy, it's not about saving money for most folks. Lot of people don't want 5 boxes sitting by their tv. Playstation 3 for example is great because its a game system, a dvd player, and a blu ray player all in one. That's one box top removing three. I don't think any of us are too far broke or cheap to go out and buy a 20 dollar DVD player at Walmart.

  • @Virtual1Guy So whats up with singling me out with a comment that is irrelevant to my post? I never mentioned I had a "problem" with not being able to watch DVD on my Wii. I gave an adequate answer on Nintendo's decision against adding the playback feature.

But to entertain your response... Adding DVD Playback would in no way add to the sale price as much as you are making it out to be. Many systems these days have DVD playback now starting with the Playstation 2. Please research next time

  • is there a way to play blue-ray ?

  • is that 4.3 wii ?

  • the wii is 3 entertainment centers in 1, media center, videogame console and internet browser, the wii saves our money xD

  • Tyrian?! Duuuuude, where/how did you get Tyrian? I love that game

  • Jurassic Park!

  • It's not technically illegal because its not a criminal offense. Though it does conflict with Nintendo's Policy and will void any warranty with the system. Also why Nintendo didn't have software to play dvd's is because they didn't want to pay for the license for the regions they needed for the dvd standard. You can google it up and research it.

  • with that channel you can play another console games

  • "ooh jurassic park" lol featuring smiley face, you heard that here first

  • is this free?

  • wtf y mine load >:0

  • And jurassic park was the only dvd you had that wasnt porn... :P nice though

  • TYRIAN ONE OF THE BEST GAMES EVER!

  • does it work for data files like avi??

  • LikuX or any1 mmm.. like i live in germany but i understand eng but my friends dont and when i put a german dvd in there i cant set it in to german couse i cant use the dvd option but is there a way how you an do that please answer

  • -.- Homebrew ROCKS

  • @watermelonsodafizzi Yes it do Sir!..

  • OMG! This is cool, I can now bypass my dvd player, the oldest & cheapest component in my TV cabinet and play my DVDs thru my Wii !!!!! WOW!! THAT IS AMAZING!!

Am I missing something here, doesn't everyone have a DVD player nowadays?

  • @bigfatnapper yea most people I would say have a dvd player these days, but whats nice about ur wii being about to play dvds, is that you can ditch the dvd player and opt it for a blu-ray player & still be able to use ur dvds that you spent alot of money collecting... i think its great especially if your like me and dont want all the clutter & wires all over the place.

  • hey wow do you get the homw brew channel type me back asap

  • @nasia10 you have to softmod you wii.... look it up there are tons of tutorials but dont pay for it, if u do you were scammed!

  • hey. i have just downloaded this same thing. how does your mplayer end up looking so great with its interface? mine is just plain black background with purple and green text...

  • so after ive downloaded mplayer where do i save it on the root of the sd card or on the apps folder

  • lol now i have 5 dvd/bluray players 1. ps3

    2.wii.

    3.xbox 360.

    4.dvd player built in tv

    6. bluray player XD

  • is it possible to go to the dvds menu as you would in a normal dvd player ? browse through it, choose extras, subtitles etc ?

  • how did u do it?

  • if u don't have homebrew u might as well give up

  • homebrue channel

  • can it play burned dvds

  • Look the mplayer loaded up, but after i applied play dvd... it will not start.. whats the first thing i most verified

  • when i did this last night, it had subtitles, how do i get those off

  • which format of dvds?

  • i have an sd card but no an usb adapter so will also work saving the stuff on the sd card ( but with a phone )????

  • yea if u have an SD card u cna just put all the stuff up their and plug it in 2 ur wii

  • Isnt there another channel which lets you play wii games on burned Dvd's? just wondering is all...

  • where did you downloaded homebrew channel???

it doesnt appear on the wii shop channel.

  • Look at youtube for tuotials to install it.

  • you have to either use the twilight hack or bomerban

  • hahahaha lol thats funny

  • Softmod your Wii first to begin with...

  • there has GOT to be a way to allow dvd playback for 4.0 now that its bbeen cracked. so hel me GOD if i see dvd stub ticket 2011 error ONE more time im gonna strangle mario as i ram a BOXED dildo up his ass

  • can i watch burned DVDs on my wii?

  • what channel did you go to?

  • The Homebrew Channel.

  • My Wii just freezes.

waited a long time and nothing

  • Same Here. Did you find out why?

  • i got a 3.3 wii and i downloaded dvdx for 3.3 but it wont play new regular dvds oculd someone tell me whats wrong,ENYONE!! i will subscribe to u if u help me:(

  • i think you need to load it off an sd card.

  • i dont think you can do that.

  • all i'm saying is I can already watch movies on the wii with photo channel and an sd card OR i can use homebrew to play dvd off of sd cards

  • wtf ,how man like thats cool ,how canb u load dvds off a sd card is it like logic to put a move file by burning it(i do this) and put itb on the photo channel and watch it ,but how could u post or give me a video on how to do this tho.

  • I think he means he's using his SD Card to load the Homebrew Channel for the application (MPlayer) to watch the DVDs.

  • is this illegal?

  • No.

  • who siad the wii couldn't play dvds

  • how do you get the homebrew channel?

  • i dont get how that works. why wont the wii play dvds without a separate channel. if it can read dvds like that, why cant it read them without it? its the same piece of equipment. nintendo should do something about that.

  • Because Nintendo would have to pay Licensing Fees if they wanted the DVD drive to read standard DVDs; this would make the Wii's more expensive. Nintendo's also fucking cheap, hence why the DSi can't read .mp3 files, only .aac files.

Who the fuck even has music in .aac?

  • its aac because on the dsi you can speed up and do stuff to your music. aac is like 3 times the size of a mp3. they could have made it capatible with mp3s but that would cost them more time and money.

  • I read that AAC uses less memory than MP3, but it's just not as used as MP3

  • no, cause he has the dvd

  • SOME things are only if you want to play nitendo 64 games.. I only want it to watch dvds... but i got a perfectly legal "powersave" thats only 15 dollars i get to watch videos at home without the worry of the cops coming to bust my door down! :)

  • LOL "ooh jurassic park" XD

  • da guys whos did the homebrew channel are pretty smart

  • i have wiikey2 and homebrew channel...i wish wiikey2 had dvd playback compatability...maybe an update would do it!?

  • holy

it takes long time to load omg lol

  • LOL "ooh jurassic park"

  • Comment removed

  • according to them, they weren't trying to sell a DVD player along with the game console. They just focused on the game experience, and didn't want people to buy the wii because it can play DVD too. Also they've said that maybe sometime in the future they'll make a software upgrade and/or a channel to play DVDs. I don't have the source of this right now, but as soon as I find it I'll let you know.

  • "Nintendo plans to release a version of the console with DVD-Video playback capabilities. This new model will use the CinePlayer CE DVD Navigator software engine by Sonic Solutions. After announcing the DVD version for 2007, Nintendo delayed its release to focus on producing the original console to meet demand."

  • That was a long time ago plus they said a different version of wii when the thing can play DVD's without it. There using smart marketing techniques yet its a dick move. Flame them till they make a channel or update because more people would buy it and it would get used more. They better do it soon

  • but like you said, if nintendo makes dvd playable wiis, 'more people would buy it and it would get used more'. Since they don't yet I don't see how is that a marketing technique. I don't know a bit about marketing, but I don't think it makes much sense. I guess maybe they just wanted to focus on the games thing because they've always been a gaming company and didn't want to sell stuff out of other uses apart from gaming. But that's just a poor guess :/

  • What i meant was its a smart marketing technique to make a DVD Wii so they would have to go out and buy that if they wanted to too even though the thing can read DVD's already. Dick move

  • oh yes yes, you're right about that :)

  • actually it would raise the price of the wii because they need liscencing and little stikers (literally) to run dvd's on it

  • That's what I've been asking myself for years... I understood it for the Gamecube, as the drive was too small, but for Wii there is no excuse, Nintendo could do a software solution (available for download), just like this hack!

  • I know right!!!!!!!!!

  • @dhLord64 Probably because it was unnecessary. Almost every family that would have a wii would also have a) a computer that could play DVDs or b) a DVD player or c) a different console that could play DVDs.

  • what software are you using and how do i get it?

  • No clue... if there was some sort of explanation to the video, like a description or something it would really help.

  • oh, so you didnt make the video!

  • Well, as you can see it's called MPlayer.

To run it you need the Twilight Hack and the Homebrew Channel.

Just google for Wii Homebrew and you'll find everything you need!

  • too much effort, dvd playesr are only like $30, but anyways nice job mate.

p.s. you've got me in the mood to watch jurassic park lol

  • "woo Jurassic Park"...lol

  • wow i never knew u had to wait forever for it to load

  • good choice of movies

    mah boi

    =)

  • black guy always dies first lol :P just jking

  • I got an error when installing this!!!

    It says:

Error -2011 installing DVD Stub ticket

    Error -2011 installing stub

Anyone who has had this problem and fixed it, please tell me. I don't want a discription of the problem, I want a fix for it. Thank-you.

My Wii has 3.3 Firmware Version.

  • The new 3.3U firmware? I believe that fucks up most Homebrew and especially using the DVD drive for anything besides games. Not quite sure though.

  • I get the same thing :(

  • me too :(

  • same here ....

  • too bad, never update your consoles

  • it does, u need to downgrade

  • AND ME

  • how do you get mplayer plz msg me back thx :)

  • you know this will burn your wii lazer because it keeps on scaing the disk wii games use the laser less so theirs no harm

  • It won't, it's a DVD drive, it's meant to constantly read the disc.

  • "Oooooo, Jurassic Park!"

  • dork

  • i have the mplayer too its awesome... I wonder when we can finally play burned wii games

  • u can play burned wii games :)

  • yeah i kno - I meant with a soft mod

  • k nvm

  • im waiting to connect the broswer for it ............... taking a while

  • Thank u very much it work thanks!!!!!!!!

  • Can Mplayer play backup Dvds?

  • I have no clue, and nothing on hand to test it.

  • how i download the channel ?

    reply please

  • Check the description.

  • hey! nice vid...but , i have the sma player as u , i have donw the sma things...but when i put my MUDVAYNE dvd and click on "play dvd" it freezes , i have tried with other movies and the same thing! :( i rally need a dvd player on my wii...thnks 4 ur time...

  • Nice LED stand. Does it get its power from the Wii's USB port?

  • Yup, and it has a build in fan to cool the Wii.

  • Either:

    1) Your video camera sucks ass.

    2)Your room is extremly loud.

3)Wii is loud as shit. (which is not known)

  • The AC is on and I live next to a freeway.

  • Makes sence.

  • nice!

  • how long does it take to load? I waited like 10 minutes and nothing happened.

  • This is a neat innovation for the Wii, but DVD players cost about $15 now. It's really not worth it. :-/

  • It's nice not having to switch the cables between the devices.

  • Tried this for the hell of it and I tested using Disc 1 of Terminator: TSCC and nothing lagged though imo since I have a 27in analog tv that dvds look and sound better over my computer and theres no black bar.

  • what does libdi do????where do i put the files????and do i really need it for anything???

  • If you want you play DVDs, yes you need it.

  • the wii is a shit dvd player

  • Wow! You have one hell of a good reasons why that's so.

  • When I got my wii my dad asked me if it could play DVDs. I tested it and it couldn't. If people found this the wii would take over the world!!

  • it cant be ps3 because ps3 can play blu rays and wii cannot.also dvd is old now and blu ray is gonna rule!

  • DVD isn't being phased out for a long time.

  • You're stuck in the past. Blu ray is the ruler of movie format. Nintendo is stuck in the past too. Took them ages to finally use dvd for gaming.

  • So what? There arent many blu ray movies out. Yet....

  • What do you think the GameCube used?

  • downloads wil ltake over eventually but blueray is da best so far

  • wow ur smart!

before the gamecube they didnt use disks. and when the gamecube came out they used DVD'S!!

  • I was talking about the dvd discs not the small ones like the gamecube one. Not only that, gamecube can't play dvd movies . by the way, why you replying to my 3month old reply for ?

  • this is awesome! at the same time, though, it kind of pisses me off that DVDs could be played with only extra software and nintendo didn't include this by default.

  • I have to go out of my way to save a good chunk of money, fuck it! Plus it's so easy to do it's fun messing with Homebrew anyway, it kinda works out.

  • does this homebrew works for Pal wii's?

  • Yup, you just need the right save file for Twilight Princess.

  • i got the hb channel, but when i put my sd card in, only the mplayer file shows, but it doesnt load. advice anyone?

  • Did you install everything correctly?

  • well sometimes you gotta copy folders inside the zipped files.......go iside them(zip) and read the READ ME

  • say can you tell me the controls for the thing cause i have no idea how to go back or pause

  • +/- changes chapters, B brings up the OSD, A Pauses.

  • thats so awesome!!!!!!!!!

  • ugh how do you select things in the dvds menu

  • The D-pad on the Wiimote.

  • what problems may this app create while using, i mean is the lens of the wii built to play dvd's, will it burn out? can placing dvd into a wii and playing it burn out any of the hardware of the wii? in general, is this thing safe?

  • The DVD drive makes no distinction between a video game or a movie, it's all just data. This software proves that it's not a hardware issue preventing the Wii from playing DVD movies, it's all software.

  • Using this channel will heat up your system pretty bad, I recommend an external fan to keep it cool.

  • how does evry1s wii holder or w.e it is have a blue light. myne doesnt

  • It's called the Wii Crystal Cooler, by Brando. You can order it online. It's a Wii Stand with LEDs and a fan built in.

  • Great choice of movie!

I'll install it later and try out a different region disk to find out about the region encoding for you guys.

  • lol nice choice of movie

    and great homebrew

  • Looks cool, probably useless for me since I already have a DVD hooked up to my TV, and that loading took a long time. If you have component cables hooked on your Wii will it display the movies in 480p?

  • just a guess but probably not becuz its a regular dvd with the hardware of wat could equate to a regular dvd player, since normal dvds r not made with any kind of HD option itll probably just come out normal

  • Regular DVD players do play at 480p provided your TV set has component inputs. 480p is not HD.

Whether this software supports it is another question. I'd suggest installing it and seeing for yourself, if it's not running in progressive mode you'll definitely see the difference.

  • Shouldnt this of had come with the Wii in the first place?

  • In order to make the Wii as low-cost as it is, Nintendo didn't buy the licensing rights it would require to run movies.

Physically, the drive is capable of reading DVDs obviously but Nintendo didn't allow it to run standard DVDs.

  • Basically, they're annoying cunts who cut back on everything possible to line their own pockets with money.

  • While true, I'm glad I didn't shell out anything more than $250 for my Wii. Anything higher isn't worth it.

  • Where did u download that Channel? The one to watch Movies.

  • The links are in the description.

  • im watching red line on my wii!!!!!!!!

  • give me a tutorial please

  • Is this region free?

  • No clue, I don't have any other region DVDs on hand. I think I know someone who does, I'll see.

  • how do i install the homebrew channel?

  • jurassic park ftw

  • Fuckin' A man!

  • Neat!

Do you have to boot the Twilight hack every time you would like to boot up the homebrew channel? Or do you no longer need the Twilight hack once the homebrew channel is installed?

    Thanks

  • You don't need the twilight hack once you have Homebrew installed.

  • Awesome!

  • It's not, I installed and used it this morning myself.

  • It's awesome they managed to do this! Of course Mplayer needs allot improvements, like the loading time and the the audio not always synched with the video. But that will be fixed.
