  • omg! Don't listen to the negative comments on here! So silly, this is a very hard piece. Plus u are playing both/2 parts. everyone has a different take on speed. People, you cannot say "oh you don't sound like, Hillary or whoever!" The only one who can really say anything if he was here is johann sebastian bach. So since he isn't currently not on youtube I guess you can't really compare! Man people on here think they're something special and a critic. Post ur own videos, let's see if u can do it

  • No bad at all. I actually like your performance better than the Vengerov travesty I just watched on youtube. Sounds like you have a beautiful tone that even comes through my cheap PC speakers.

  • Isn't it supposed to be slower. I'm learning that for college auditions and I think its supposed to be taken down a notch. Great one the less. At least when Hillary Hahn plays it it's slow. Playing it fast takes away the minor sad sound.

  • Its good overall. Im sure you're not playing this anymore but you should have paracticed it with a metronome set at a 40.

    Im doing it now and it really helps.

    Im also practicing with a tuner to check the intervals.

  • That was an absolutely horrible interpretation, the intonation at the beginning made me cringe, and you took it way too fast, maybe you should play something a little more your style instead of Bach

  • i think much of the intonation problem is due to the video quality and room... but i would agree with you on the speed

  • nice job. i would definitely use more phrasing. this is a very gentle piece. maybe try feeling it a bit more. use dynamics in your phrasing, it seems too uniform in that aspect. also, it sounds like you're playing it too harshly. Perhaps if you try releasing some of the pressure on your right hand, that could help. otherwise, very beautifully played! keep it up, man! post some more! :)

  • Not bad. Even, though you tuned your violin a little flat, it was still pretty much in tune. If it were me, I would make it a little more graceful, but good job. I recently finished this piece (not the chaconne of course :D) and it's hard. Keep up the good work.

  • MateoTosca89, you shouldn't say things that aren't true. You never know when people that know who you are will see your comments. If you were accepted into julliard this year that's a different story, but you are not currently a "julliard student".

  • I think you really need to fix the intonation and rhythm and the interpretation is way off what most would be looking for. You seem to have the ability to play but are in need of guidance.

  • don't be offended! you did a nice job! but it's always possible to do better, right? Also, try taking it at a slower tempo, and make sure your rhythms are correct. i can see you going far! keep it up!

  • Nice playing. Your intonation is quite good. I'm curious about what edition of the music you are using, because a lot of what I'm seeing are things that I've never seen before.

    I would suggest doing this perfectly metrically at first, THEN add interpretation. Having a firm grounding in what Bach wrote is important, because it makes any interpretation you decide on not only sound more confident, but also gives it some grounding.

  • I've tried it on the second time after the repeat, but it's much safer to play those in first ;) They should still be softer, more practice!

  • Well played! Not my personal favorite approach to Bach but when it's well played, interpretation shouldn't matter. Bach is so subjective too which makes it so hard to pull off and keep everyong happy.

    I'm curious how needing a replaned fingerboard affects the double stops? I played an instrument for some time that was in bad need of a replaning and didn't have any significant trouble with playing.

    Anyways, well done!

  • Thanks :) About the fingerboard.I'm about to go drop my fiddle off now-- when I had this one cut originally, the planing around the third position has a slight but noticeable dip and the plane was not done with the finger board top stop off which resulted in the first position being slightly higher. All in all, when someone comes to a shop and says, it's difficult to play fifth double-stops cleanly, either they are not skilled enough or the fingerboard needs attention.

  • listen to a recording i suggest milstein many of the rhythms were wrong and try to make it sound less romantic/contemporary and dont dig into those double stops a lot.

  • Yeah I take some liberties with some rhythms, but that's what's fun about playing the violin-- remember, I'm just practicing here, not performing! When I perform, I follow the music more rigorously. I need to get my fingerboard planed and am having trouble with doublestops lately without added pressure. Eat it!
