So nice to hear this-used to listen to Radio Orion when working nights in Pretoria in the late 80'S. Been in the UK now for the last 10 years-this brings back such memories. Hell I miss SA.
I remember Radio 5, it then became 5 FM. I also remember Radio 2000, where they would have simulcast in English to TV programs which were dubbed into Afrikaans/Zulu/Sotho/Xhosa, etc - aah, those were the days, alright!!! Ek mis Suid Afrika!!!
@ekweetbeste Which went south during the boycotts, people fighting back against the Nats and the knowledge that you were defending a system that would make Jesus Christ gag. Let Malan and Vorster get by St. Peter with that s--t.
yeah who would of thought in 1988 that it would be nostalgia in 2008? i was born in 1985, but those days in south africa looks much better than now. anybody have a time machine?
It only seems better. Me and many of my mates fought a war that could not be won. Some of them did not come back. At least now you know the government is no good. Those days we weren't even allowed to have an opinion about our "beloved leaders". Believe you me, they weren't on our side. Live for Today.
Die was in 27 Jul 1988. Luister bietjie verder in die opname. Daai was lekker sorgvry tye. Aai hoe verlang ek nou. Niks van 50 mense dood per dag nie niks.
fokkit hoe lank terug was dit. my ma het my altyd vroeg in die bed gesit. ek moes dit seker gemis het. of was dit in die late 70's toe was ek nog nie eers in beplanning nie.
Ja, as jy nie in die lokasie woon! Ek was baie trots op my swembad in die tuin en my tv en my motor ens. Ja dit was goeie tye - maar ek en jy is witmens, NE!
Please never remove this clip, I sometimes listen to it at night (I know, very sad) thinking about SA from my Amsterdam flat. Greetz from Holland!

I could be wrong, but I don't think 'Teledata' provided some services that the U'K's 'Ceefax' did, such as subtitles for TV programmes.

Fascinating story at 8:00 about the DJ picking up his son at the airport. This is why late-night radio is an exercise in wasting time.
