  • daaaamn. dude rocks. It's Ginjah Bakah. Awesome triplets mixed with quarter notes. The man is a genius.

  • I get sick of idiot so-called musicians who judge every thing musical on sophistication. I'd must rather listen to a soulful, sexy, or eerie Jimmy Page or Eric Clapton guitar solo than a stupid-ass shredder whose goal is to play nine thousand notes per bar and make no musical sense. Guys like Baker invented the whole art of hard rock drumming. Technique matters but its more what you do with technique to express your feelings and inspire others that matters. And yes it's an exercise dumbass!

  • so do these rolls end on the 2nd stroke of a double stroke?

  • yes

  • Yes it is very basic. So what? In his instructional DVD, he points out that Phil Seaman came up with this exercise as a way to make practicing these rudiments interesting, and that's all.

  • uhhh, he's not a genius....this is as basic as you can get.

  • ya, thats like, brutally basic

  • Ginger Baker is a wierd guy, and a genius.

  • this video is moving, i get goosebumps every time i watch it,awsome rudiments.thanks rootheart for posting.bravo!!!!!

  • Fascinating to know Ginger and Jake Hanna collaborated. They are two of my longtime favorites. I saw Mr. Baker at a clinic about 19 years ago and he demonstrated this breaking it up between snare and floor toms. Mystifying. Couldn't see enough from my seat. Commitment and talent will out.

  • Hi, very nice! Do you have any idea where I can get this book? I can't find it on the internet, I really want it!

  • I don´t think it is still available. Kofi, Ginger´s son, wrote that even he doesn´t have a copy. I thought about asking him about permission to pdf the book and share it with fellow drummers, I´m not sure, but I guess I´d have to ask the publishing company, Ludwig

  • I have a copy of this book, signed by Ginger himself in 1979 or 1980. I've really beaten it up - it is falling to bits. I'm kind of ashamed not to have kept it in better condition, but kind of proud to have well used it, too...

If it is out of print then maybe if it was scanned and uploaded somewhere we might not get sued? Or maybe we would...

  • eBay ?

  • Thats wicked!

  • Hey kofi are you still pretending to be this great musicians son ??

  • Dude your 51?? What an emberasing thing to say in public. Trust me a 5th grader would have to be way ahead of his time to do this. To non-musicians and the rest of the sheep who follow pop music, its boring. This is actualy very tough to play.

  • It's an exercise, dumbass

  • notice the intro image: the book is really worn off..not because it is "old" but because it is being used for many years, and I still find something new and challenging in it, each time I open it.

  • i dont think i have a copy anymore , so keep that book safe . thanks , kofi

  • yes I will.

  • when I was trying Utube for the very first time, I had no idea what to post, so I just grabbed my cellphone and spontanously did an idea from your dad´s book which impressed me like hell when I was a kid, and it still does impress any audience, grin..remember this one?:

    watch?v=bJVogLOURmc

  • did you know a drummer call fill showed this to my dad because it sounded like the old trains in london at the time

  • Yes, this is what this vid is about.....in his book he also credits a drummer called Jake Hanna as the drummer he learned fom. Today I browsed Utube and I heard Jake Hanna for the very first time (with Woody Hermann). This is really frigging burning hot. I´m starting to understand a little more about the power of Ginger´s drumming. Next I´ll browse for Phil Seaman..which band did he play with?

  • i dont know wot band he played with but phil seaman was the drummer that taught my dad .

  • thanx...

I found a vid of Phil:
