Concerning being an HM versus a corpsman, choose corpsman. Their training is top-notch, and you will get experiences you will never get as an RN. HMs get to do things civilian medics do not, such as suturing and light dental work. You also learn advanced trauma care, public health and many other skills, and you use them in the field, unlike RNs who are confined to bases most of the time. You can always become an RN, PA, etc. later on. Many docs become PAs.

We HM's do all the stitches, irrigations, I&D's, toe nail removals, ECG's, you name it. The nurses know this and rely on us HEAVILY. By the same token, they teach us real "doctor type stuff" we don't get taught. So we get a nurses education, on the job. I love it actually. Being a Corpsman ON GREEN SIDE is great.
