mr stripyhead i feel so sorry for you all, you seem a nice person down to earth. shame the pollies arent human. Im afraid the only time pollies are going to really feel compassionate re disaster, is if they go through it themselves. I dont know if this place is insured but that shouldnt come into it. I posted a song HARD TIMES (Plan B) just so pollies and insurance rogues could listen to it. But they would be too busy sending our money overseas to listen to it. Hope you get to listen to it xxxx
thanks for these uploads mate, in NZ we viewed via the news all the flooding in the City and so on but to see the heights it reached in homes, extraordinary. As for the spirit of the people, true blue Aussies, can't say much more.
I live in north Qld..and watched the flood coverage day after day on the news..but your videos have a different effect on me..actually seeing it from a normal every day blokes point of view and not the medias is heartbreaking..I have no idea what its like to lose everything I ever knew and I have the deepest sympathies for everyone affected by the floods..keep your chin up mate, things can only get better from here.
Hi MrStripyHead, Good to see you guys getting on with the clean up, nice to see you can leave your stuff outside to dry and no fucker nicks it, very nice place to live. Just skimmed over the other comments waffling on about God and Mother nature blah blah, but they're all missing the main important message from you video, The Home brew and Rum collection are safe and the Bar is right side up, what more could you ask for. Stay Lucky, MrVwspotter
I followed all this on the news, but only now had the chance to watch your vids.
To face that cleanup alone would have been very depressing. The community spirit of Australians is fantastic. To see all that progress in one day must have been a great load off your uncle. Well done and thank you to all the volunteers up there helping complete strangers. Good onya mate and thanks for posting.
Families lost loved ones and everything they have worked hard for be a little more thoughtful on your comments as these people don't need smart arses posting crap.
All people affected in these floods are TRUE AUSSIE BATTLERS
Mr Stripy, thanks for the insight to this terrible disaster of QLD floods 2011.
I feel sorry for what the QLD people had to go through during this.
Ihope everything goes well with getting your families lives back on track... and to the dickheads who have posted smart asre remarks and being unthoughtful, go and get F.....D these people suffered badly and it just wasn't what MR Stripy showed us in his videos to show us the effects of these floods there was alot more who have lost. to be cont....
it's simply a natural disaster. old mother nature up to her tricks. i'm sure it had NOTHING WHATSOEVER to do with your NON-STOP blasphemy and mockery of our lord and savior jesus christ, you stupid git.
@dstdvl you're right. it didn't have anything to do with that. no need to be sarcastic. it actually didn't.
do you seriously think jesus is up there in heaven thinking 'hmmm, this man doesn't believe we exist god, i'm going to flood his uncles house, his city and his state. but not his house, because that would be plain stupid...'
Good point about the plants, the mud should be washed off as much as possible to help them breath, l spent half the day today hosing mud off the plants in my uncles garden and l recommend everyone else should do the same.
I saw you on ABC news :) and watched your interview. or listened to your interview rather. would have been better if i actually saw you while i was helping clean up :S but I'm in chapel hill, quite away away from where you were cleaning
I know all NZers appreciated the help offered by OZ during the mining tragedy and Christchurch earthquake last year. Now its time for us to help you guys back, even if its just a small donation to the flood relief effort. Hope life over there gets back to normal fairly quickly and most of all i hope you uncles Rum and home-brew was salvageable...you guys probably need a few stiff ones.
I think this is the most real documentary that touches me. Perhaps because I kind of know you. All we can do in the other states is encourage donations. It is amazing how fast Queenslanders get it together to reconstruct. Newcastle was similar after the Earthquake. People just get it together to help. There are not many countries in the world with this kind of generousity, and not many Australians know if they haven't lived in other countries. Best wishes ATY!!!
I've been keeping up on yours and others videos about the flood. It's more informative than the NEWS. I wish I could be there to help out.
A rum collection and home brew? I haven't said before but I brew beer and my favorite drink (besides beer) is rum. I think your uncle and I would get along very well. Haha.
Good luck on the clean up. I hope things get better.
It still amazes me to think one day that is completely covered .. the next .. the water has gone .. and left total devastation behind. You've taken some amazing footage Stripy! Good to see everyone coming together to help clean up!
Always good to see 'us' surviving and and coming together to help one another so that 'we' (humans!) pull through some of the worst of times. Best of wishes and hopes for you, yours, and all affected by the floods.
Oh what a mess. It is so awful. It will take a while for everyone to get things back to normal. I am donating money that is all I can do. It is so terrible to see our fellow country men suffer.
Video...It say' it all Mate,Hope your Uncle & Aunt are handling things ok,they are lucky they got you,as my old man used to say Righto' Heads Down, Arse up lets get into it.
Hows the supply of petrol and food? This is good coverage; better than anything we are getting here in the States on our channels. Lots of work ahead but good to see neighbors helping each other out. Does you uncle have insurance that will cover this?
Cheers for your coverage of the floods Stripy!! If you didn't know you did make the news on Channel Nine here in Sydney!!! so congrats on that i guess... even thought it was bad circumstances for the reason.
Also i think that your coverage has been amazing and better than most news channels!!
that shit sucks, when my house flooded in 04 we had to wait a month before we could get in to rip up the carpet. it smelled like the inside of a rotten elephant's asshole for weeks after we cleaned it up. that's why you see this goofy pink tile on the floor of my house now.
What a crappy thing to go through, but as long as everyones okay that's all that really matters. It's good to see everyone working together though and helping each other out to get things back in order. Hope it all turns out for the best
Thanks for giving such a personal and first hand account of this event. In Scotland I've seen newscasters talking about how loads of folk are looting and just generally negative comments. It's refreshing to see everyone pull together and help
It's so amazing how sooo much water came into all these suburbs and how amazingly high it reached in all these houses and how quickly it subsided. That's what shocks me, especially the destruction you showed us in your videos. My thoughts r with your family and all those who suffered. All the best.
here in the uk our wonderful insurance companies deem houses in flood risk areas uninsurable & therefore will not cover you or payout in the event of a flood, hope yours are more sympathetic
The floods are alot worse than I thought they were, good luck to your uncle and to everybody affected by the floods. Luckily I live in cairns and didn't get hit with it.
Bless there hearts...sad to lose everything you own...I hope things can get replaced and get back on there feet quickly and they dont have to go thru this again. My blessing to you and family.
I thought you were crying in the thumbnail lol. So I was preparing for a sad video. Yea but it is still pretty sad. I can't imagine that happening to me when I get a house and work to fill it with shit.
What are the interior walls of the house constructed of if you can just pressure wash them??If it happened here(as an example) the whole interior would have to be gutted out..Good to see everyone helping everyone out like a true community and your uncles house all cleaned out
So, what happens to a house like this????Is it salvage-able....really. Here our houses are made of brick but there they seem to be made of drywall....doesn't that just completely fuck the house like ...forever or what.......
Some beautiful furniture there. I wonder what can be salvaged. It's awesome how you guys can pull together and get back on your feet. I wish I was there with you guys, helping along.
@CamW30 thats why we got in asap to wash all the walls and floors down. we will need to wait and see. if it gets torn down, it will be rebuilt, probably on stilts though
Yea and the walls can mold etc. What a mess for them. I have had friends flooded very near where I live twice in couple years and it is a lot of work to recover from each time.
What amazingly nice people Australians are. The instinct and desire to help the neighbors - whether relatives, friends or strangers - is far more impressive a power than what that flood did. There truly is nothing like Australia.
@MrStripyHead understood, at the neighborhood level ...was just a thought.. Looking at fair weather satellite images in Google Maps just makes it more real to the remote news following public. good luck.
Here's thinking of all you guys over in Queensland.
And, What you've also shown has been on my mind before today. The flood will have devastated local wildlife too. Those worms you showed were drowning, and the fish was killed by the flood as well, probably from too much dirt in the water.
Glad everybody in your tribe is safe, heartbreaking events but heart warming to see community spirit, its sad that it takes things like this for that kind of spirit to occur.
Boy that carpet is going to reek of stench soon I feel so fucking bad, I have 2 uncles in the flood zones and both there houses are utterly destroyed but I'm glad they got out alive.
I wouldn't even know where the hell to begin with a clean up like that. There isn't any lasting structural damage that you know of at your uncle's house? It''s definitely great to see everyone helping each other out.
Best of luck - I donated some money )easy online) and I hope others do too. Just because Australia is not Pakistan does not mean they are not just as deserving in Oz
Sorry this happened. I live on the Gulf Coast and we had similar flooding because of hurricane Ivan in 2004. I got off lucky but I know it sucks balls. I hope for a swift recovery.
Its good to see everything is getting better for you, your family and neighbours, but at the same time, here's hoping that you all remain safe at this time.
good to see everythings well now mr stripyhead...i live in reddybay so luckily escaped it all....all the best m8..

Yea and the walls can mold etc. What a mess for them. I have had friends flooded very near where I live twice in couple years and it is a lot of work to recover from each time.

Is there anything better than a natural disaster?
The panic, the people lost in the streets....it's like picking food of the wine.

Footpath? Sidewalk you mean? :3
That sucks ass though man. I'm glad everybody's helping each other though.

What amazingly nice people Australians are. The instinct and desire to help the neighbors - whether relatives, friends or strangers - is far more impressive a power than what that flood did. There truly is nothing like Australia.

Oh wow my heart goes out to you guys. I am impressed how everyone seems to remain positive.

looke, for the first time at the Brisbane River in Google Maps. So which neighborhood?

@AtheistCitizen id prefer not to make this public
MrStripyHead 1 year ago 2
@MrStripyHead understood, at the neighborhood level ...was just a thought.. Looking at fair weather satellite images in Google Maps just makes it more real to the remote news following public. good luck.

Here's thinking of all you guys over in Queensland.
And, What you've also shown has been on my mind before today. The flood will have devastated local wildlife too. Those worms you showed were drowning, and the fish was killed by the flood as well, probably from too much dirt in the water.

wish you the best. Atleast you are all safe. That sucks about the house and everything though.

Glad everybody in your tribe is safe, heartbreaking events but heart warming to see community spirit, its sad that it takes things like this for that kind of spirit to occur.

Happened to my moms house some years ago.
We live so far north that the houses are heavily insulated, it suck up a lot of water.
and you can´t dry it out before fungus starts to grow in the walls.
Nothing else to do than tear down the house, and build a new one.

Is your uncle going barefoot to keep the carpets clean?
Okay, bad jokes aside, it must be so strange to go around one's town and see it topsy turvy like that.
