Honda cb 72 and 77 was not designed by an italian! It´s the other way round: Laverda bought a Honda cb 77, took it apart and patterned their new engine from that. That´s why the Honda and Laverda SFC engines looked very similar. But the design was made by Soichiro Honda years before the italians were inspired by it.
Back in those days japanese took other designs ( mainly German ) and made improvements to their products. They started their industrial strength by copying european products. And to be fair, they worked very hard and with high discipline.
