See people need to understand one thing" Its Always about race. The reporter that asked the question is from chicago she is well known. I was not surpise that she asked what she did.
Gates brings "the history of being an African American". The white Officer "brings racial baggage". No this guys doesn't seem biased at all. What bullshit.
Gates intitally refused to present his ID, and when he finally did present his identification, it was his Harvard card without and address meaning the officer couldn't verify that he lived there. Meanwhile, there was a second person who was unaccounted for.
Dr. Gates should get over himself. 99.5% of people don't know who he is (including the passerby who called 911). He still has to cooperate with the police and try to help them determine that all is in order.
Another person who needs to get his facts right. Mr gates did show 2 forms of id, at which point the police should have left. Also what did they charge him with? Why did they not read him his rights? The police were STUPID in the way that this issue was handled. Could they not look around the house and see various pictures of Mr. Gates and his family and deduce that this was his house? This was stupidity at its height as far as the dumb cop is concerned.
Dr. Gates did not show 2 forms of ID - only his Harvard ID. Read the police report and you will see what I mean. If Dr. Gates would have shown his state issued driver's license and shouted insults, there would not have been an issue and Sgt. Crowley could have left his home.
Usually where there's smoke there's fire. If I were a policeman in this situation, Dr. Gates' refusal to ID himself and his billegerence would have made me feel something else was not right.
I agree Nick, the situation would have ended up the same regardless of race. The cop also a trains other officers on racial sensitivity. Bottom line, if the police are called and you don't present proper identification then act out in a in a poor manner, you will get arrested. This show is so biased its ridiculous.
