@freddytk421 after going with the traditional two hose single tip cutting torch for more years than i care to remember i'm probably against this setup just cause i don't want to change. it's very hard to teach an old dog new tricks. for the new guys (and gals!) starting out on it it's probably a good thing.
Freddy, try dragging copper tip lightly on surface of steel Plate. Preheat steel and pull oxygen trigger before you pull copper tip to steel. this will keep tip clean. You will take away all the pressure fromyour hands and arms. let me know how this way works. thanks
Plasma cutters are great IF you have electricity available and also a compressor (unless you have one of those self contained plasma cutters).
Good video. Made me want to go out and practice some more on cutting plate steel.
I love my DHC 2000 for welding thinner steel an it does cut really well on sheet steel and plate steel. It takes some practice to cut out of position cuts with this torch. Once you get better with it, it is better than a standard torch for most cutting.
I have some already the latest is really cool looking and 1080p its called canon vixia hf20...... there is a picture of a torch on the thumbnail and it's in my HD playlist. I am not done with this torch yet though, I am going to do more with it today. It still may be worth it.
Nice vid. As they say, practice makes perfect. Is there still time to return it and buy a plasma cutter? :-) Kidding aside, I've seen some nice (looking) plasma cutters on Ebay for under $350!
I'm not done yet you still may want one of these. I'm not that good with it yet and I never ever need to cut 1/2 inch plates for anything. Lets see how it does with welding and thinner metal. but hell yeah plasma rulez all for cutting. but you need a good one one for thick plate, look at the stats before you buy one then think about how often you will need to cut thick stuff like that. Me, I rarely do and for those times torches work just fine. I have a plasma though and would not give that up
If I got a Plasma, I'd use it on 1/4" and under. I'd use my torch (which I'm getting better) for anything thicker. I'm a Mechanical Engineer and used to design out of 11 & 7 gauge sheet all the time. I would design some pretty elaborate shapes because I knew they would be cut on a CNC Plasma, (which sometimes I had to program). All this talk makes me want to head into my shop and practice!
No because half would be hanging off the side maybe if I wanted to cut big pieces. I know it's a good torch for welding and cutting thin metal and looking at the forums even huge fans of this torch don't like it for cutting thick plate. I will make some more vids of it tomorrow and they should be more favorable. but for plate it's not as good, I can't even imagine cutting big pipes with this thing.
@freddytk421 With practice even big thick plate and pipe would be a piece of cake with that torch. As for the wheels even if you only have 1 wheel on the job You will still get a neater cut.
Victor makes their stuff in China now

wtf?? please tell me why this set-up's better than a regular single tip torch? i'll take my victor any-day!

@jwmacawful its not better. I like traditional torches more than this thing. Victors are good even though they are made in china now.

I can see how awkward (what a strange looking word) that torch can be for short cuts. The guides look like they can make long cuts a breeze though.
That aside, what are there advantages of this two tip system verses the standard single tipped cutting torch that I am used to?
Goregoon 2 years ago
I will try the guides.
You can make very intricate cuts with it like designs and stuff like that. I like it I just need to get the hang of it.
freddytk421 2 years ago
Why didn't you try the wheels for cuttin the plate?? For straight cuts, that wheel might work!!
I can see your points though about how awkward any other cut could be!! The pistol grip seems cumbersome!!
Great review!!
5*s!

I will try it with the wheels. I just thought it would not be good because one of them would hang off the edge

it would be nice if you could also make a cut with the typical torch to see the difference. Thanks you save me some cash...

Why did you take the guide arm roller things off? Would that not help it be steady?

you're probably right but cutting pipe would suck once you get under it. I do need practice thats for sure this was my first time trying it out.
freddytk421 2 years ago
PIPE is round freddy you don't get underit you roll it over Unless it is already fixed in place some how.
vince38curious2 2 years ago
I'm talking about cutting a pipe that is already installed to repair it and some pipes are heavy and miles long. or kilometers long in your case. lol
