the real problem with these dc power jack sockets is that they rely on the mechanical strength of the solder to keep them in place on the board.there is a way to make sure they stay in place once you are ready to re-solder them back on to the motherboard.by applying a little two part epoxy resin just before re-soldering,then fit the socket back on to the mobo,leave to set for about 3 hours and then re solder.now the socket has more strength and should last a bit longer.cheers all.
The last part of the solder is very hard to get off, I usually just hit the solder with small torch and use a pair of needle nose pliers to pull the jack clean out of the circuit board. Be careful not to burn any surrounding parts, i cover them in heavy duty tinfoil first.
I'm having a hard time getting my dc jack desoldered. I'm using a braid.....can't seem to get the last bits of solder removed and get the jack loose....I'm thinking maybe my soldering iron doesn't get hot enough....it's 25watt....do I need something more powerful?? Is there a trick to it that I'm missing?? thanks
@skippingchurch same thing that happend to me you might want to get something thats hot enough. Are you keeping the solder clean? the more dirty it is, the more harder it is for it to heat up. look into buying a pump instead of using the thread.
Hello my laptop does not power on more, does not turn on any PC led does not light up with the battery and won't turn on only with external power. The feeder works, may be the jack?

What do I do if the problem is not the wiring of the jack, but the plastic piece surrounding the plug?

hy there,
i was thinking to replace it by myself to you know,
i got all the material to do this,
but the new jack adapter has 5 pins, a dubbel one in the back.
and my motherboard (acer aspire 3650) has 4 hole-connections.
i just dont find how to place it,
because the dubbel pin on the jack (in the back) cant fit on the motherboat because it hasnt the space for 2 pins. how i fix this?
Thx

I have a question. Would a Wick work just as well as a Desoldering pump? I'm kinda on a budget here.
roetemeteor 1 year ago
@roetemeteor
De soldering pumps are very inexpensive you can purchase one on ebay for under 5.00 .

@takingmylifeback
It's repaired now. It was actually held down by a wire and not soldered.

@dommyreg24
Test the AC adapter with a voltmeter. Could be just a bad power adapter.
LAPTOPREPAIR101 1 year ago
I had done but it's all ok the problem comes from the internal tension and I had to remove the battery to reset the ROM BIOS
dommyreg24 1 year ago
Very good, except for around the price of buying all the stuff I need + time and risk, I could have it done by a professional, insured technician!
Awesome if you have the kit and can solder (which I can't!)
