  • hy,

i have an old hpzv5000 or so, and same problems

now i look to the jack,

could there be other typical problems old notebooks have ?

    (sry for bad english)

  • the real problem with these dc power jack sockets is that they rely on the mechanical strength of the solder to keep them in place on the board.there is a way to make sure they stay in place once you are ready to re-solder them back on to the motherboard.by applying a little two part epoxy resin just before re-soldering,then fit the socket back on to the mobo, leave to set for about 3 hours and then re solder.now the socket has more strength and should last a bit longer.cheers all.

  • What do I do if the problem is not the wiring of the jack, but the plastic piece surrounding the plug?

  • for real ima do this more often easy moneyyyyy i took it apart in less then an hour

  • what if the piece of the motherboard that the power jack sits on cracks off, can i just crazy glue the piece back on and resolder?

  • The last part of the solder is very hard to get off, I usually just hit the solder with small torch and use a pair of needle nose pliers to pull the jack clean out of the circuit board. Be careful not to burn any surrounding parts, i cover them in heavy duty tinfoil first.

  • Why does everyone have this problem?

    Crap Chinese/phillipine/taiwan build quality.

  • I'm having a hard time getting my dc jack desoldered. I'm using a braid.....can't seem to get the last bits of solder removed and get the jack loose....I'm thinking maybe my soldering iron doesn't get hot enough....it's 25watt....do I need something more powerful?? Is there a trick to it that I'm missing?? thanks

  • @skippingchurch same thing that happend to me you might want to get something thats hot enough. Are you keeping the solder clean? the more dirty it is, the more harder it is for it to heat up. look into buying a pump instead of using the thread.

  • Where is the Flux to help the solder to floe and fillet around the component joints?

  • I'm gonna have to make a field trip to pick up some of the supplies. :D

  • hum.. easy enought

  • Thankyou:)

  • my power jack is halfway through the motherboard, it stick out on both sides, I dont know how to take it off and i dont know if its broken or not.

  • wow, very clean coats! great tutorial. thanks!

  • I have a question. Would a Wick work just as well as a Desoldering pump? I'm kinda on a budget here.

  • @roetemeteor

De soldering pumps are very inexpensive you can purchase one on ebay for under 5.00 .

  • @takingmylifeback

It's repaired now. It was actually held down by a wire and not soldered.

  • i know now i can get the materials at radioshack.

  • hey thanks man!

  • where can u find "soldering iron, desoldering pump, and rosin core solder"???

  • @StudiosStar

It's explained in the guide on the website.

  • @LAPTOPREPAIR101

    Also Radioshack

  • @StudiosStar radioshack or online find the rosin core solder at walmart

  • @StudiosStar The source by circuit city or radio shack

  • you forgot to add philips head screw driver in the tools required... cant go really far without that.

  • Hello my laptop does not power on more, does not turn on any PC led does not light up with the battery and won't turn on only with external power. The feeder works, may be the jack?

  • @dommyreg24

Test the AC adapter with a voltmeter. Could be just a bad power adapter.

  • I had done but it's all ok the problem comes from the internal tension and I had to remove the battery to reset the ROM BIOS

  • Very good, except for around the price of buying all the stuff I need + time and risk, I could have it done by a professional, insured technician!

Awesome if you have the kit and can solder (which I can't!)

  • yeah come and fix mine that would be more excelent i aint got a soldering iron and i cant get in my laptop

how much would a computer shop charge for this?

  • Excellent, This is the best Instructional on youtue in this subject. I really appreciateit.
