I just had this done Friday the 8th of October. The morning after I had the most pain I think that I've ever had to endure. I almost went to the ER because the pain was so unbearable. Today though I am tolerating the pain much better and it seems to be a little less severe. I can't imagine not taking pain medicine for this type of procedure.
I have had 3 microfracture surgeries, the 1st was a failure because I did not receive proper instruction for post op protocols and the 2nd was a success and the 3rd well I just had it 4 days ago...I refused any pain killers it does'nt hurt that bad. I still haven't taken any. Remember to go the full 6-8 weeks non-weight bearing and it should be successful!
i had this surgery in 04. have never been able to run without pain since. it's a very unlucky injury/surgery. mine was done on the back of my knee cap.. horrible place for it.
@hoobie06 success rate for a patellafemoral microfracture is very low. Steadman studies with 1200 patients show a 90% success rate; predictors being young age, smaller defect, otherwise healthy knee.
@surfbum5412 thanks for the info. i was 32 when i had it. not 10 minutes goes by even 6 years later that i don't think about it hurting or not hurting. hate to imagine what it will feel like when i'm 55
@hoobie06 I am having a microfracture done next week, or possible OATS procedure. I've had several surguries since I was 16, meniscus removals, so its bone on bone and very painful. Hard to go up and down stairs and been that way for over a year. Anyone have any thoughts?
I have knee surgery scheduled for next week. My surgeon says I might need microfractures if the tear goes all the way to the bone. Anyway, thanks for posting this video. I have a much more vivid idea of what this means now.
awb4130578 how is the knee? why i ask i just had my acl and the micro on my knee my first week i was on hydrocodone that is some good shit but only tylenol now when they did my acl they found i had a ball spot on the knee what is not good but it hurts like crazy no weight on 10 to 11 weeks 8 more weeks to go. just let know how is that knee is going.
i had to get mine 2 weeks. ago. wherever your doc. is doing this a week or 2 after the surgery that part won't hurt anymore. on my left knee both sides were hurting. he did this on the right side of my left knee. he used arthioscopy?-where they use a camera. and he also looked around the knee to to make sure nothing else was wrong.
the right side no longer hurts & it seems brand new but my left side hurts alot more than it did. the pain is in the whole area of that left side-above & below where the procedure was. my doc. said it is brusing from having the procedure done.
3,000mg of vicodin takes care of that. if they give that to you it will be your new best friend your 1st week post-op. what you will hate-and i hate it too-no weight bearing on at at all 6 weeks post-op. if so the clot will not form to make you new cartiledge. let me know how your procedure goes=)
@awb4130578 Hi! Can you please tell me how is your knee? Can you walk for few hours without pain? Can you run without pain and knee swelling after? I had artroscopy 1 year ago, they saw my cartiledge is damaged, but decided not to make the microfacture procedure yet. My knee swells after running. Cant stand it anymore. Did this procedure help you? What do you recommend? Do it or live like that? Thanks a lot! Monica
