green sleeves was written by a young lady for her man. he told her...that when she lay in the grass that it will be his green sleeves holding her....when he was gone.
Well... I love this song and love the way she sings it too. For me, her diction is pretty good. Maybe some people are misunderstading as in opera/lyrical singing, you have to sing the "r" in an Italian way because they're better for you to keep the tune, the voice projection and all, but for me, her pronunciation is great. We can clearly understand what she's saying and she can trasmit the softness of the song.
No, she is singing in English. Look up the lyrics and you can easily hear them being sung. FABULOUS VIDEO and Audio Thank you to whomever loaded this.
My first language is English and she has excellent diction. I am amazed how many Scandinavians speak an excellent unaccented English. After all the English language had vast contributions from the Scandinavian languages since large parts of the country was populated by the Vikings. I regard them as my brothers and sisters. Not only that they run their political affairs intelligently.
@craig29t you may want to see pictures taken by Dombrovskis, Peter who was a Tasmanian Wilderness Photographer of the 90s before his too early death in that very wilderness.
Dear Andy, nice to hear that Aafje is appreciated in Canada as well as inHolland
She was born in 1924 and is 84 yrs now, still alive. Many British folksongs she did beaufifully, but Greensleeves is below her level.Bit short of breath or too much on 1 line. The Dutch(Scottish born)alt/mezzo Caroline Kaart(born Raitt)(1932)did a splen
wow still alive amazing but its the fealing songs like this give that is even more it can expand the darkness and light in ones heart for as long as we live we still will die in fact the only thing that is almost eternal is matter even the earth the sun the moon everything all that is created will one day be die this is not just a belive from religion it is also proved by science current estimates for universes life giving span accrording to science is5 billion years till all stars are dead.

dude , that woman is from Holland ... where they speak Dutch, that is very related to German :P
Does English relate to Dutch ? I dont think it does.
kristianjochems 2 years ago
@kristianjochems I'm sorry, but it does. English is a Germanic language, just like Dutch, German or the Skandinavian languages.
