HaHaha you say stuff you wanna be able to do on a Ipad, if you really are a geek you can wait and buy a windows 8 tablet. Why do you have your macbook in the background of your shows then you not using it? do you think people thinks you cool? But i´m just laughing. Be a geek and get some good stuff, you don´t need to buy stuff that doesnt fit you. You will probably NEVER be able to do something like that on a apple produkt. Just saying :P
My ideal tablet, would run android, have like 3 different female usb ports, and support human interface devices, and flash drives. It would also need a proper touch screen, and run smoothly.
My Dream tablet would have a 14" HD screen have a flip-out keyboard like a phone but bigger, have a quad core processor and run Widows 7 or Android OS.
7 inch screen. tablet tailored windows 7/8 of course compatible will all programs and video codecs (so i can finally watch normally my HD MKV videos). power to handle 1080p video and at least 100 gb internal memory.
Well my dream Tab let is an iPad with Flash, Better notification, 500 TB Flash memory, and 3 year battery life :) ohhh and the ability to play any video, msic or file without any new apps
iPad with apps does most everything you have asked. I wish flash did not eat batteries, but it does as HTML 5 proliferates flash hopefully fades away. Tablets are a window to the world. I love touch interface and can edit photos movies easier with my fingers than a mouse.
Tablets aren't for personal and/or entertainment use. Yeah sure apple will say the ipad can be used to get things done, but let's be realistic, i don't think anyone wants to type a 10 page paper on a virtual keyboard. If you're using an external keyboard you might as well type it on a laptop or desktop. You are asking for things that aren't meant for tablets in general. That's why the tablet was created, so people who don't use those features on a computer can be entertained in a fun & easy way.
iPad hardware featuring a cut down version of OSX. In my opinion iOS 4 is great on the iPhone but the iPad screen is just too big for the user interface, the UI in OSX would feel much more comfortable to use. Built in SDHC card slot would be nice too and thats about it.
I definitely don't think tablets need USB in at all, I don't need to expand the storage with a hard drive, plug a camera into it and if I did, I would not use my iPad or any tablet as backup storage for my camera.
I really like the eee pad transformer as a concept... haven't gotten to use it but it looks like it'd be rally useful. I do like being able to watch movies and youtube videos on but I need to be able to have a keyboard as well though.
@npfalcon30 I agree, dropbox is good substitute for the necessity of a file system in iPad.Dropbox was just updated today to work with iOS apps that support the "open in" feature. For, example the mail app in iOS now gives you option to open attached documents in Dropbox and save it.With Mac OSX Lion built in server on the way I'm sure apple will integrate dropbox like features in the OS to better work with iPhone/iPad so no need of file system in iOS.
This is one of the only videos where I almost disagree with you on everything. I prefer dropbox rather than local storage. Simply because with storage options, its impossible to put that many files on it locally. I also have everything on my iPad and Phone in folders, and with a simple swipe over and type. I can pull up all the apps I need. Similar to finder. No reason to put folders in folders in folders IMO because its meant to be a device that you can pick up real quick and use.
Dave, iOS is fine the way it is.I hope apple keeps it the same and doesn't add all the features you're asking for.You must realize all this stuff you want for iOS 5 will clutter the OS and affect performance. The more you add to OS then more resources are used up, thus increased cpu usage causing lag and freezes and lower battery performance.Keep the UI simple and not clutter it with all the crap you're asking for.It runs flawlessly and smoth the way it is and I hope they keep it thay way.
Would like to start with Apple design hardware (aesthetics and efficiency anyway) and add some microsoft office functionality, a better multitasking system, better notifications, ability to download and store files more flexibly (file system as you said). Just...a little more complexity in exchange for functionality. More features of a traditional computer without sacrificing the long battery life and no fan. Ability to connect a bluetooth mouse might be nice. Not really sure, truth be told!
I hope Windows 8 tablets will have all those features and more. My understanding is Windows 8 on the tablet will be the same as on the PC but with a steamlined interface designed for touch seemingly based on Win Pho 7's metro UI but with an option to go back to the tradionatal desktop.
I would love my iPad to have the ability to boot into OSX, I know, I know.. that OS isn't designed for a tablet, but still, id love to use a full operating system on my iPad but i cannot see it happening sadly :(
@wacko506 there's an app you can get from itunes and the mac app store called RDM+ Desktop which lets you control your mac computer with your ipod, iphone, or ipad.
@Athos523 Yes I know this. However, the performance is somewhat, rubbish. You could use EasyAir which is very quick, but I would still rather a native - full OS
Ascetics of iOS, notifications like Android, apps from iOS, hardware of android, ease of and freshness of Windows Phone 7 and multitasking like HP Web OS
i think apple should put a USB on the ipad ever if it was just 1 i would be happy and a good OS and lastly a gaming system considering the new psp has such good graphics why cant a tablet
Quod core CPU
over 1GB ram
500GB HDD
graphics card nividea or ATI
disc player
running buntu linux
battery life would be shite but i would be willing to buy somthing like that
@iphonepunker I totally agree, I really don't see the point in carrying something around as heavy as an iPad, when you can just use the same space for a fully powered notebook, for a similar price too! :)
I just want tablets to be able to run Windows and Linux properly without 3-4 hours battery life. If this is achieved, there is not reason not to have a tablet as opposed to a netbook.
__
The ultra ultimate awesomesauce tablet would be a tablet that would double as a monitor, hella many ports so it could easily be connected to enough peripherals that it would be as good as a desktop computer.
Linux distributions(Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Mint, Knoppix, etc.) are able to run from an USB stick smaller than 4 GB for quite a few years now, windows 8 is just catching up...
To be honest the iPad 2 is my idea of the perfect tablet, the only things I want are hopefully coming with iOS 5 like as you said improved notifications, (I would say the new touch gestures to open and close apps and for multitasking but I'm pretty sure that's coming). Ideally of course I'd want it a little cheaper but as the comp is finding out it's a pretty hard price to beat
@Technology102 If you have clients, it's a PERFECT platform for showing off your work to them and is far less "clunky" than a MacBook Pro. I hate passing my MBP around to show clients mock ups and stuff, half the time they're like "... how do I scroll? Where's the button?" and it's an expensive piece of kit if someone drops or knocks it. The iPad is brilliant to show them things, and it's a natural way to interact with the touch. It has many other uses, but that's a great one for designers.
@RadfordForSoup It's supposedly very quick after upgrading to that dual-core 1GHz CPU. It's quick enough as of right now. There needs to be a real OS on there.
The iPad is nothing more than a giant iPod Touch.

I've might have a solution to your desires regarding the iPad.
Put a GNU system on it and tailor it to fit your exact needs.
The only OS family that will do, behave and look _exactly_ as you want.
Cheers!

Above all things I think the iPad would have TONS more popularity if it had
1) A USB input that actually ACCEPTS devices (after certain update it no longer works with many unpowered devices)
2) flash (but obviously this will never come, but possibly developers could add games to app store and code their websites in html5 instead of flash)
other than that the iPad doesn't lack a whole lot more except for a keyboard and more storage for cheaper
