These towers are actually a lot easier to build than they look. I've built 3 just like this by myself so far, takes me between 10-30 hours to build a functional tower that stretches from bedrock to Heaven, depending on what obstacles you run into underground. As of patch 1.4, I still collect more items than I know what to do with. I can post a tutorial on how to make the spawn rooms, kill room, and lava traps if there is demand. Reply or thumbs up this comment if you want one.

@Jarede16 I've made this one, and a fully underground one in my smp server. Building them up takes way longer, plus it's all stealthy and no one knows about it. I quit playing until smp is fully featured (gets hell and shit). Go ahead and make tutorials, and I'll link to them from here. I get comments all the time asking for them.

@refyxxgaming Basically, yes. I only carve out the blocks that absolutely need to be removed though so you really are only digging out a little over half of the total blocks in the hole. I posted a 2-part tutorial on building these towers as a video response to this video. I am probably going to post another short video with tips on the fastest way to build the towers soon.

@Jarede16 hey man the place the mobs spawn in is limited arround the player right? but this limitation is not above or under the player or isn´t it? like they spawn about 50 blocks arround you but 100 over or under your position. Im not exactly sure about that.

I built a tower 25x25 with a 19x19 spawning field. i got 10 levels at this tower but i only get 618 items per hour ._.

@IndygoaliasManu This was before the Halloween update, there was a glitch that allowed higher spawning rates. I built a new on on my smp server with about 15 levels, and it's nothing close to this, but it still gives me more than enough.

@anders123153 what are the sizes of your spawnlevels and how many u got of them ? and did u play on peaceful if yes its clear what u have to change xD umm another reason is if you built your tower over a cave... u have to light all caves around the tower so that the monsters have to spawn in your tower. btw are you from germany ? ^^

I made my tower 20x20 with 8 floors, its output is pretty good but nothing compared to this.. i should have built it all the way down to bedrock. Im adding large chambers on the sides of it now to increase output.

@Internetspaceships has to be MUCH bigger than that. i made about 18x80 with about 8-9 floors and it gets about 7k/h after the chunk 0 was fixed

@xXAkopAXx yeah, another mistake i made was having my collection point right besides the lava that kills the mobs. not thinking about the 24 block spherical no-spawn zone.. making 4 floors above me have no mobs spawning :( Im in the middle of making a 41x41 tower now, each floor has 4 15x15 spawning fields and are surrounded by 3 blocks wide watercanals on all sides with 9 3x3 holes. Attached to the sides of the tower are cactus farms :P

@ipodtouchlover0541 Thanks :) sadly its still a work in progress.. it has 7 floors now, but it takes ages to excavate it.. since my current mob tower has a very poor drop rate it takes me forever to get enough sulphur to make TNT. And i dont want to hack any items, it just feels wrong.. each floor is 5 blocks high * times 41 * times 41 = 8405 blocks in each floor, using no TNT at all that is 8 Diamond picks per floor, so i have to resort to stone picks. Besides im playing other games too :]

i cant update mine idk why but sometimes my computer restarts for no reason then when im playing minecraft and that happens huge cubes like that spawn in places then when i exit the game then go back in its gone alll the is a huge pool ^^

Should I still do this regardless of the fix? I have this other means of killing mobs, but its like 15 or so blocks above bedrock i think, and its a room with 60 free spaces going off in each direction after a water trap.

@clownxfart True but if you can get i think it was 303's spawnlist mod when it comes out for beta 1.2_1 then you can just find a dungeon destroy the mob spawner pick it up (this can only be done with 303's spawnlist)

and then place it in the place you want it to be at & then right click it and pick which one you want it to spawn then its even more effective then this. i only have 1 floor on my but i have 1 creeper spawner 1 skeleton spawner and 1 zombie spawner. & i get just as much just as fast

@clownxfart I just built my own version, but it stinks. Only a few items come every once in a while. it was such a waste of time. I'm about to use the gunpower it did collect to blow it up. Haha. I used 2368 cobblestone and a ton of other resources to build it, too.

I'm planning on building a similar thing, although not for the items. So, with this, do mobs spawn elsewhere too? What is the exact reason why this 0,0 region gets so many spawns. Also, I suppose they need a certain amount of room to spawn...like they can't spawn in a maze 1-3 width maze (like I tried to do).
