  • nice coaching to your son lollll

  • Damn your kid was so cute and erudite! I love watching this video 'cause it brings a big smile to my face. .... And I need to replace my radio too. Lol

  • Great video, your son is a bright young man. Is he interested in electronics? Could be the next Bill Gates or Steve Jobs!!! What wrench is used to get the stock radio out? Where can I find one? Mine isn't a regular screwdriver

  • no lie this video helped me hahaha

  • "but im going to use a sauntering iron" LMAO

  • thanks for tha video,, you help me to much

  • cutest kid

  • if i connect the blue bmw wire to the white wire of the radio set, do i connect the white bmw wire to the radio set?

P.S i have not bought a radio set, so i do not know if this is a valid question. I'd like to try fixing my own radio ;D

  • youre son gone have a good job at a BMW dealer;) nice vid:D

  • Good job man very smart of u

  • I am replacing my car stereo on my 95 318ic. Is this harness already in the car or do I have to buy one? Where can I get one?

  • you didn't show how hard it is to get that connector off the back of the unit. once i connected the new harness, i also could not get that piece to clip back on because the it would not fit on the harness completely. other than these 2 lil issues, i loved the video. i knew what to expect during my installation and it turned out fine. thank you.

  • Great job. It's good to see a young man being taught by his father. Thanks for the info too. I have an E36, 99 M3 Conv. I swaped the Orig unit for an Alpine few years back. Im ready to upgrade again, but not sure which brand. I would like to come as close to the irig look as poss. BavAuto has a replacement but its $800+.

    Thx again.

  • @BKAxFLY …..That was ignorant.

  • Great Vid! im 21 and just did this for the first time. I used the video as a reference and it was very helpful, however, I didnt soder the cables. I drive a 1991 bmw 735i. I accidently broke the black peice that held the stock stereo harness, but it worked out in the end. Your vid saved me $60-$90 by installing it myself. thanks!

  • I did actually replace my stock stereo a couple days ago. One thing to mention for anyone doing this to an E36is the the DIN bracket which holds the new stereo will slide right in, but getting a nice tight fit takes a bit more work. The tabs in the bracket on mine wasn't exactly accommodating.

There is no room on the bottom to use the bracing tabs and the top width is just perfect for not fitting well with the supplied tabs. The sides were the best bet and even they needed trimmed.

  • makes me wanna try it with mine now :P

  • I am most impressed with your son...very astute. A stereo installation on an E36 is super easy...kudos to BMW for that. It's a whole different ballgame when you have to remove the bulk of the dash and get into adding amps, caps, subs..etc.

I am going to change out my stock head unit on my 328i soon. Was there nothing other than the harness you needed? Nothing extra for DIN fitment?

    Great video!

  • @ViperHHO Everything we needed was in the video. But detaching the harness from the stock radio will be a struggle. You will have to be very patient with that

  • @ViperHHO nice you should make a video of the installation. I am kinda having some trouble with my 328i wiring setup.

  • nice video but if you choose to solder the harness then it is way better to use heat shrink rather than electrical tape because cars are constantly thermal cycled which may cause the tape to unravel. which could cause a short and and a headache when you have to replace fuses and fix the wiring

  • @wesmath1 Thanks! I totally agree. I unfortunately found out about your suggestion after this video was shot.

  • i have a 1998 bmw e36 318i and the stereo is just like yours what i dont get is that the harness at the back is diffrent to yours so im not able to connect any wires... or match any wires to my stereo

    please help regards

  • @b18k4705 Can you somehow take a few pics and upload it somewhere?

  • @afflatus2 Did you figure out what type of harness b18k4705 had? I am worried I ordered the wrong one. Since I have yet to be able to get the radio out due to not having the correct type of screwdriver, I have not seen the harness yet. Also When I bought my radio the website suggested a dash install kit which I clearly do not need so I am going to have to try and return it.

  • can i have your old stock radio please?

  • @eevwbulldawg19 It's defective

  • You are using your son to mock those of us adults who aren't good at installing stereos into our cars haha. Seriously though thanks for the video. I have a 1998 BMW 328i and just got a new stereo for Christmas. Now that I've watched your video, I know what was missing when I was trying to put it in earlier. Thanks again.

  • Performance E36ers can start with a Signature Motoring performance intake kit. It can add up to 11HP for only about $150 and installs in 30-45 minutes - really a must for every E36 owner. It also makes the car HOWL at high end but sounds normal at everyday driving. See my videos!

    -Adds 9-11 HP

    -Never replace filter again (K&N)

    -GREAT SOUND
