I never understood this scene where Robert dies. Its like he gave up, which wasn't in his personality during the movie. The writers did a bad job with that one. I'd much rather seen him overwhelmed in force if they were bent on him dying. But standing there spraying AK fire at an armored helo wasn't sensible and it looks ridiculous even now. Great movie though, I am just really disappointed in how they handled Robert dying.
@AwesomeSauce64 Russian Hinds, or whatever helicopter that was supposed to be (didn't look quite right to me), were actually very armored. In operation, they have actually taken all sorts of small arms fire as well as RPG's, shot back, and flown home safely. It took American Stinger missiles sent to Afghanistan to take them down.
@snipersEND Correction, its an Aersopatiale Puma, just modified, take a look at the explanation a posted on this subject below. Greetings. But great job trying to make it look like a A version.
@tommi35777 No my friend its not a Hind, its a Puma, from Aerospatiale, french made. Its just that it was retrofitted to look like a Hind, the early version. Just check out the main landing gear, the Puma has stub wheel wells in which each set protrudes out a bit, maybe 1/3 of the wheel. The Hind A doesnt have it, the whole gear goes into the fuselage and that part is rounded. Same used in Rambo Movies. Another example is from Blue Thunder, its an Aerospatiale Gazelle, modified
@snipersEND your welcome. The tanks, are not tanks, they are built on a tracktor chassis, the turret is fiber glass, im talking about the one in which Aardvark bites it and the AAA in the town. theres a page, i dont remember the adress but shows everything, the AKs, the RPGs, how they made them and from what, all the guns used, grenades, i mean everything.....its .....wiki/Red Dawn. There is something before the /. but try and search for it, its worth it.
@AwesomeSauce64 I'm more amazed that the RPG hit the chopper. I'm sure it's possible if the helicopter presents itself long enough. The RPG is simple point-and-shoot. However, if it hit in the crew compartment than the entire crew should have been killed or injured by the concussion. A stinger, on the other hand, would likely home on the engine and take it out or the main rotor.
There's aren't fucking Mi24s bullshit hollywood! Can anyone help me find the scene where they're playing the soviet anthem and gun down the Amerikans?? I can't find it anywhere.
Best "Dying with your Boots on" Death Scene ever in a movie. With the possible exception of "Blaster" in the Movie "Uncommon Valor." But the music and the "Wolverines" Battle-Cry here makes THIS one the BEST !!!!
Commie bastards, better dead than red, pinkos...I saw this in fourth grade at the height of the cold war...and dreamed of a day I'd kill a Russian. Now, I work with a few. They are great people.
@jrewert Funny how that works out..All you EVER hear are bad things about Iraq! I went twice for deployments..GREATEST People I have EVER met in my life!
@jrewert My friend's grandfather felt the same way about the Japanese post-WWII before he got stationed in Tokyo. He went in thinking they were savages, came out thinking they were some of the most civilized people he ever met.
everytime i see this scene, my hair sticks up behind my neck, this scene is amazing, its giving you a message to never give in and if you want something bad enough to die for it! WOLVERINES!!!!

Not sure, don't know the inner construction of a Mi-24 but it might be possible that cockpit is sealed from the transport compartment.
