Agh, the labels! When I listen to a song, I listen to it as music. Not as metalcore or power metal or anything. I love music, especially classical music. @bce5150 This is completely untrue. Melodeath is pretty much nonexistent if you're talking real melodeath as in IF, DT and ATG... Metalcore is more of a trend and modern style metal. I don't hate metalcore or anything but that's just a fact.
And the main reason why I think this cover isn't very good is because the voice NEEDS a really powerful voice and this guy just can't actually belt out notes. Almost everyone can sing if they're quiet enough.
I commend both bands for simply attempting to do a cover of Nevermore and doing a decent one. Nevermore simply has an incredibly unique sound that nobody can properly cover.
Same thing with ATRs cover goes with Firewinds cover. They play it safe, note for note. Didnt try to make it their own. Vocals aside(Dane's emotion, wrath, desperation is so distinct that only vocalists with same virtues can give him a run for his money; Apollo, though a good singer, possesses no such class) this cover sounds almost like the original with less bite and soul. Both should have tried to do a cover the way Nevermore do covers
A good cover and great adaption for 6 strings. My only criticisms would be the singer's diction and the emotion he puts in to it. Other than that, great cover.

All that remains didn't do a bad job, I listen to it if I want something that's a bit softer, but still distinct... sometimes, as much as I love Nevermore, I can't listen to the nevermore version, makes me too sad (I lost my dog a oucple weeks ago and the nevermore version was too powerful, really made me upset) so I needed the other one, cos I wanted to listen to the song. My problem is that they haven't done anything to make their versions unique

Protip: Most bands people call metalcore these days are just melodeath with hardcore riffs. All That Remains is one of those bands.
Actual metalcore would be bands like Botch, Converge, and Zao.

My favourite one is the original by Nevermore.
Although Firewind did a great job. And so did ATR.
But you simply can't beat the original.
Warrel's voice is like perfect for the song.

Learn,cause the biggest root of metal is classical music and power metal is the closest to that.
Listin to firewind or nevermore abit more cause they have real talent unlike those shit metalcore bands you are listining to.

Agh, the labels! When I listen to a song, I listen to it as music. Not as metalcore or power metal or anything. I love music, especially classical music. If you try to imitate classical music like a power metal band, then you come off one step behind. However if you try to approach something from a different point of view, then you're on to something. I give praise to one band and Im defined by that band's 'genre'. I jammin to Iron Maiden and Chickenfoot right now. Is that ok with you all?

@bce5150 This is completely untrue. Melodeath is pretty much nonexistent if you're talking real melodeath as in IF, DT and ATG... Metalcore is more of a trend and modern style metal. I don't hate metalcore or anything but that's just a fact.
And the main reason why I think this cover isn't very good is because the voice NEEDS a really powerful voice and this guy just can't actually belt out notes. Almost everyone can sing if they're quiet enough.

I commend both bands for simply attempting to do a cover of Nevermore and doing a decent one. Nevermore simply has an incredibly unique sound that nobody can properly cover.

Same thing with ATRs cover goes with Firewinds cover. They play it safe, note for note. Didnt try to make it their own. Vocals aside(Dane's emotion, wrath, desperation is so distinct that only vocalists with same virtues can give him a run for his money; Apollo, though a good singer, possesses no such class) this cover sounds almost like the original with less bite and soul. Both should have tried to do a cover the way Nevermore do covers

Fantastic.
I like the original more, but the original got me into Nevermore, and Dane is unique. I love firewind, they've done this justice. All that Remains also did a good cover, but of the three its my least favourite because the vocals lack power
My question is, however: Why is a power metal band covering a Progressive metal song lol

Why not. A cover is a mark of respect for a band you really like, or that have been a huge influnece on your musical talents. You know? You'll probably find Gus G idolises Jeff Loomis. Jeffm fantastic progressive guitarist, showed his talent by being asked to help Tim Owens solo album. People doing solo albums only want the best for their music. But I see waht you mean. But I think Firewind have got it spot on, to make it sound like them, whicklst showing their passion for Nevermore

Firewind is an awesome band, and covered this well. some times i think its stupid that these punk or hardcore bands trying to pull off an awesome song, especially nevermore lol

All that remains didn't do a bad job, I listen to it if I want something that's a bit softer, but still distinct... sometimes, as much as I love Nevermore, I can't listen to the nevermore version, makes me too sad (I lost my dog a oucple weeks ago and the nevermore version was too powerful, really made me upset) so I needed the other one, cos I wanted to listen to the song. My problem is that they haven't done anything to make their versions unique
