  • Sooo good!!!

  • love him..

  • Tim Reynolds, a Les Paul. it doesn't get any better than that!

  • I love DMB, but I can't stand Tim live. Keep him in the studio, boys. This was embarrassing to watch!

  • Great playing (like always) but that tone has to go!

  • Not a Hater...just not impressed with Mesa Boogies!

  • I full on agree that TR is one of the greatest in the world...and I happen to think that the DMB is one of thee greatests bands that ever graced our planet!!! I LOVE ME SOME DMB!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i wouldnt have gone with this tone- its kind of invasive. I feel like something different could be a lot more moving

  • ok you cant just go saying that tim is one of the best in the world because he just plain is not.he is really good, but saying one of the greatest? maybe you should expand your knowledge before making claims to that effect

  • dude... all i gotta say haters gunna hate. if any one of you went head to head with reynolds, matthews, tinsley, lessard or the great late leroi, odds are youre going to get a musical ass kicking. and food for thought:

if youre better than tim reynolds, why are you on youtube putting the man down instead of out there on stage in front of 60,000+ jamming with one of the GREATEST JAM BANDS OF ALL FUCKING TIME

  • I despise 3:18

  • Damn RIGHT!!!!the world!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I'm a huge DMB fan and I actually love this performance, but I do completely see how people would say that Reynold's solo wasn't right for the song. Also, his clothes are very 80s.

  • You think he could have chose a nicer tone...I mean this isn't Santana, it's DMB.

  • Wow. He shreds for the sake of shredding. No feeling at all.

And when he does play slow, sustainy long notes he holds the note so badly...

  • @Tonycaveman none of his solos are composed. They are all completely improvised as he goes along. He also likes to play deliberately off-key, and has been known to brag about pulling off an entire solo without hitting a single correct note. Armed with this knowledge you may or may not respect him more, he is one of a kind and not for everyone. Maybe check some of his solo performances on here.

  • good player...the tone is a bit shity though...

  • In case someone hasn't pointed it out already, there are similarities between Reynolds' playing and that of Carl Verheyen and what he calls intervallic rock. Just mentioning it because both players are not confined to the box pattern or scalebound, and can move around to create more interesting music.

  • @kirbyjason

Right and I think that's what he's going for here. Musicians who take chances with their playing (e.g. Hendrix, Frusciante) sometimes come off as sloppy or lacking in ability. But it's really much more interesting in my opinion than listening to the same type of soloing over and over.

  • he looks cute with his caveman look

  • Reynolds is a beast

  • this guy is freaking rediculous and im not even a guitarist ima drummer

  • I think Tim's best stuff is with acoustic....

  • John McLaughlin wanna be at the beginning

  • Post a video response on why, or how you're so qualified to judge. He sounds less like John McLaughin than you sound like every undereducated sheep on youtube.

  • @thesetruths im not putting him down, i love McLaughlin! Glad to see modern guitarists quoting him. Please dont call me a sheep

  • not at all like mclaughlin

  • do you know any of Tim's stuff?

  • yeah, however that is irrelevent. at around :50 it sounds like something McLaughlin would do back in the day. Is sounding like one of the greatest jazz fusion guitarists of all time a bad thing?

  • it's a good solo but i don't think it fits with Lie In Our Graves

  • This is Live In Chicago it is available on a 2 disc set......one of my all time favorite timmy solos

  • sick

  • where is this? is it on a cd..?

  • Comment removed

  • yep, i bet dave was like "wtf? you ruined my song!"

i've def heard tim have better moments.

  • @BadMofoMusicCritic what the fuc* is wrong with you first off tim helped get DMB toughter+ why do you think dave is selling it, It's from like '93 you are dumb. listen to the solo tard can you do tha?

  • not sure what your point is, or is trying to be. my point was that this video clip showed a very mediocre guitar solo. yes, i think i could do better. and certainly tim can do better.

  • @BadMofoMusicCritic Look I don't think dave feels the song was ruined.. My point is the solo is ill...why is dave SELLING IT ON AMAZON? If there is a better Tim solo...along with this song or otherwise respond with a link. why are you so negative? Link me a solo you did live! Bad MOFO what publication are you a critic for?? The net to talk shit? yup, how old are you 19?

  • That's fine, you like it. I don't... I think it sucks! Let's get on with our lives, shall we?

  • @BadMofoMusicCritic Fine with that. But can you as a friendly gesture send me a link to what you think is a better Tim Renyolds solo? I promise if you do this will be my last post. (just curios, every one is switched on by diferent things...like different solos) Youf friend in music, Evan.

  • I owe you nothing. Now beat it! lol

  • @BadMofoMusicCritic As you get older you will learn that debate is one of life's greatest treats. Good bye young friend, I hope you come to appreciate the meat and soul of life. Good luck young Jedi; One day this solo will touch your soul. You might not owe me anything though in this world, when you talk shit, you have to back it up.

  • @BadMofoMusicCritic @BadMofoMusicCritic You are really coo: You really must be like 15 and haven't even tripped yet.... I pity you who probably thinks a great solo involves notes per second. Not soul and love. Hendrix had no text books or shitty guitar teacher

  • @BadMofoMusicCritic

I disagree with the solo being mediocre. I think the problem was the backing band playing the wrong key when he starts getting into the sweeping. But I'm not sure whose fault it is. You think someone would have been like... 'we're not playing this right!'. Either way, I don't think you could do better technically. Tim is a seasoned, and well educated guitar player.

  • @BadMofoMusicCritic you can't write

  • I hate to say it but that solo wasnt good. It was actually a little embarassing to watch because tim reynolds is an otherwise great guitarist. I saw him live for free on campus at colorado state university in 98and he kills. I guess he just didnt have it this night. He's still great though.

  • does anyone know what concert this is?

  • He is not only technicly awesome, no, he also is one the most creative and multisided guitarists I know!

  • solo makes the hair on my neck stand up!

  • @ransom0122 See the BB king fan knows what the fuck is great!

  • There should be an ending gig on Guitar Hero called the Tim Reynolds Duel...

  • @xacefacex no one would ever win then....

  • He's such a visionary, i havent really seen much innovation like his since jimi hendrix. im sure theres many inbetween but not who go out of the norm too often

  • I seen a version of this song with Trey Anastasio it blew my mind personally i like Dave Matthews band without electric guitars

  • That is a great version also

  • Not a generally a big fan of DMB as such, particularly without electric guitar, but I would say go and watch them do Cortez the killer with Warren Haynes, he takes them and the song to another level in my opinon. The beauty of his electric guitar playing is awesome, and I think more tasteful and expressive in some ways than Reynolds was here, though he is undoubtedly a fine player also. Peace respect to you!

  • soooo good feel like crying loll no one makes sign is guitare like himmm viva tim !

  • i meannnn tim is a hippy. he can wear some interesting stuff

  • If you can play a guitar like he does, you can wear whatever you want.

  • GREAT

  • i love tim and dave but tim...cmon what are you wearing? haha

  • this just blew my mind!

  • i love the "dave haters" that come on here to post. you know your a loser when you post on a video of a band you don't like just because you think it isn't good because "everyone likes it". everyone likes it for a reason you idiots. grow up and realize what good music is. even if you don't like the band why would you rip on tim reynolds? hes one of the best guitar players in the world...

  • right on!

  • Viva Tim! Matas palomas mi amigo conquistador!

  • this is so tasteful

  • fuck off.

  • Dude. This guy's vibrato at the top of his bends is so insanely perfect. Fuck you TR

  • this solo is killer...the dorks who say it isnt have prob never played a note in their lives....

  • yeah its so bad...

so you guys prolly wouldnt have a problem throwin on a guitar and playin it right?

    tim is god

  • Oh, all bullshit aside, this really isn't a great solo. Then again, im pretty sure he's fucked up beyond all reason at this show.

  • k? bad excuse, i know plenty of musicians who can play extremely well while fucked up beyond life.

  • like dave

  • yeah im sure hendrix was never fucked up during concert. especially since he soaked the bandanna he wore around his head in liquid lsd then poked holes into his skin with needles where he would put the lsd soaked bandana. that way he could stay high thru a concert. its pretty creative really..

  • i never said he wasnt? in fact, he almost always was. calm the fuck down.

  • im not arguing against you.

  • yo how do u think trey pulls out sick fuckin solos at every phish concert

  • this is SO fucking terrible

  • I really like Tim Reynolds, his slide solo in the acoustic version of crush on storytellers gives me shivers it's that awesome but there was one part where he went off key, only for a bar or somethin though, but everyone makes mistakes, even the best. Don't see why people are giving him jip for it, they couldn't touch him on guitar at all. But yes, even with the little slip up it still sounds brilliant.

  • that's not even that good.

  • Just shut the fuck up.

  • it's really not even that good.

  • wow calm the fuck down baby faggot, this is a terrible solo and he appears to be a fucking terrible musician. grow a pair of balls.

  • Did you invent the concept of the guitar solo in rock? If not, you're not exactly at liberty to declare this solo good or bad.

Really, just shut the fuck up. Did your mother raise you to be this ignorant?

  • it's not ignorant if you listen to it first, slut.

    i g n o r ance is not giving it a chance! kthxbai.

  • i can have whatever opinion i desire, and mine happens to be the correct one, yours the incorrect. this is simply a terrible solo, not constructed well, shitty phrasing, i could keep going, but i dont want to waste too much time talking to a faggot with no taste in music.

  • You have a CORRECT opinion?

Wow, you're more stupid that i initially assumed.

  • *than

  • at least i can spell, fucking dumbass.

  • Oh, what a dumb thing to say...

I love DMB and Tim. I am a huge fan of both the band and the man. But seriously, this solo is bad...and just because a person doesn't do something themselves does NOT mean they are unable to render criticism.

    What a naive notion.

  • bad tone i think.

  • ha u gotta be kidding.. Tim will take clapton anyday!

  • He's on key, and his playing is exceptional. It doesn't suit everyone's taste, that's all. Does it really need to be a huge dispute.

If his playing is so wrong, then what are people fighting so hard against?

  • LMFAO at all the people

    A. Hating on Tim

    B. People saying "hes so much better now then he was"

  • wow..I am reading some of these comments...the ones about hoe tim is just "OK", playing the guitar.. and i must say that any one thinkin that is just fuckin stupid, and iobviously doesnt really appreciate great music...listen to songs he wrote 'betrayel" for one, and u'll clearly see this guy is not just ok, he is truly amazing....dumbasses and ur stupid comments...

  • He's ok on electric but I'd rather see him on acoustic.

  • what a goonish figure

  • I just don't understand how someone (you) can make a comment like this? Can't you appreciate his music? Why must we listen with our eyes?

  • haha your an idiot dont talk. I love time reynolds but in this he looks like a straight up goon so settle down

  • Well, I just checked -out your videos and you look like the guy from Dazed and Confused that gets his ass kicked by the 'Alpha Male, Clint' at the end. But the Taylor is nice. That, and the football plaques are the only intersting aspects to your DMB covers.

  • I could care less what you think of my videos I enjoy playing guitar but you wouldnt understand because you dont know how to play. So instead of criticizing someone elses playing why dont you either learn to play or post your own videos.

  • You're right...I apologize for being so rude. I do play guitar, but I don't have a camerea to post videos. Keep jamming...you're right...it's all about enjoying the guitar!

The Dazed and Confused comment was pretty funny though! :)

  • are you an idiot

  • wow boviously you dont know how to play guitar/ have no musical ear cause he was in key, so stfu timmy is boss

  • you stupid idiot! maybe you should post a video to show how it's done. never mind, you're just a wanna be.

  • this comment was meant for rmhirish999 below

  • youre right, at 1 his notes were not on key XD

  • i agree

  • I was at Comcast too! both nights. i also have bootlegs of two step from that night and it sounds AMAZING. glad there are other people out there who agree that tim is godly haha

  • i was also at the concert in hershey last night....i was completely speechless due to the amount of talent Tim has

  • i was at the DMB show 6/25 and Tim blew the crowd away...it was an extra bonus to have him on stage for the evening...gtrslinger doesnt know what he's talking about !!

  • i was at the dave matthews band concert at the comcast center last night and tim reynolds played incredibly well. gibson flying v, that les paul he plays in this video and a beautiful blonde fat strat out of a marshal make him sound outstanding. good time indeed

  • oh yeah and not to say his tone is only good just because he uses a fender and a marshall, i only said that because he use to use a les paul and a boogie... but he still use the paul however. but today his tone IS godly i shit u not

  • i hope u guys realize this is from ten years ago. today hes fucking AMAZING on electric. he can like tap and sweep and shit now... his phrasing is unbelievable and his tone is a million times better (now using fenders and marshalls). search some bootlegs from this years tour and youll be blown away, its def worth the search, dont do videos on here it prob sounds terrible and u prob cant hear shit

  • Tim Reynolds isn't human...

  • does not impress me whatsoever ...

  • lol, agreed

  • lol AGREED 2X TIMES! And his Vibrato SUCKS! He's a tool

  • really harsh, but kinda true. still, he is one of the most versatile guitar players i've ever seen. he played bach, and he can shred. furthermore, he understands what he's doing. why he chooses to play such shitty stuff sometimes, i dunno. maybe its just a personal thing. but still, he can fucking play, straight up. mechanically he is ridiculous.

  • yea im sort of undecided on timmy reynolds, his acoustic stuff is great....but he somehow never cuts it on the elec....

  • He's way more impressive on acoustic I think

  • Well there's no denying that he knows his stuff.. that's for sure. However, I'm not crazy about his phrasing at all. It's like brya said: nothing he does is extremely memorable, other than the fact that he plays really fast. Good technically, but as far as discretion, not so much for me.

  • Some people are gushing over this guy, while others are saying he outright sucks. I guess I'm kind of in the middle. I'm not going to deny the difficulty level of the stuff his guy plays. Its just that none of his melodies are very memorable for me.

  • Absolutely stellar. I honestly think Tim Reynolds just might be the greatest guitar player alive today.

  • tim reynolds should be given more credit for what he does the way he can move his fingers is just amazing he is just a genius i saw him in hawaii at the kokua fest 08 when he had his solo and the way he works an acoustic is crazy and i like just watching him play him play is just breath taking WOW

  • Man you were at the Kokua Fest??? SOO DAMN LUCKY!!! I wanted to be there soo bad! I'm seeing DMB 6-7 at Busch Stadium though...

  • i just don't get it everyone. what is so bad about his tone. it's fine. If you listened to any of his shit you would understand. but just because it doesn't sound like your typical rock solo tune don't give him shit. this and the jim thing solo for the same concert are one of my favorite.

  • i think this is one of the worst solo's i've ever heard. it's a nasty tone that is piercing and just doesn't fit the song. he's an amazing guitarist it's just like wtf are you doing?

  • Sounds a little like Santana in the very beginning of the solo.

  • tim is MONEY on the accoustic. no one like him. its a treat to see old school dave with that chet atkins SST... with timmy too. tim reynolds is one of the few out there that REALLY knows how to control a guitar. all 10 fingers of his have a brain of their own. hes incredible. his song "stream" proves it.

  • hes a good guitarist just this solo sucked more then fall out boy

  • even if its not his best, it still didnt suck. i thought it was amazing because honestly, i couldnt play anything even close to that.

  • Wow he should just stick with acoustic. Thats a complete discrace

  • bahahaha, my man, you seeing your own dust

  • get some tone

  • tone is a matter of opinion.

  • You can call it shit when you can play it like it aint shit!

  • Search for "rheginos and resurection", click on the first video that comes up, and THEN say that this guy sucks.

Make sure you know what you're talking about before you say that someone can't "play for shit"

  • Search for "rheginos and resurection", click on the first video that comes up, and THEN say that this guy sucks.

Make sure you know what you're talking about before you say that someone can't "play for shit"

  • or say he same thing twice haha

  • so why did you have to post a comment then?

  • To raise people's awareness

  • hahahahaah nice, he's really good except for when he plays with Dave Matthews...

  • I agree with the fact that this solo is not very good. but Tim Reynolds does not suck, so you obviously have no idea what you are talking about. So I'd advise you to go watch some of his solo stuff before you say something as ignorant as "tim sucks".

  • this is so amazing every time i watch it. it's like watching him have sex with his guitar. haha.

  • Part of what I love about Tim is his ability to use effects in such a way that they become another instrument in and of themselves. That's not the easiest thing in the world to do, and he makes it seem like nothing. His sounds always seem to blend together perfectly, and always add something new to the song he's playing. Amazing as always.

  • i don't know what yall mean. I love his tone. His playing is "tall and mean" he is so deep.

  • haha tall and mean, the opposite of tim himself

  • Ha. yeah, it's another word for awesome if anybody wants to know.

  • Reynolds really is great; but I do think that Satch and Eric Johnson outperform his guitar skills, I dont really like his tone either.

  • i personally think tim has more feel than them . but thats just my opinion.

eric johnson does kick a lot of ass though, i have to agree.

cliffs of dover is an amazing song.

  • man, he is sexing that guitar

  • ...i love Tim's solo from this particular night, kind of that "subtle perfection". For the haters, check out Timmys solo over Jimi Thing from this same night in Chicago. You're going to have to find it and scan through the song cuz i dont think there's a "solo-only" version out there.

  • I was losing faith until 1:02

  • Tim should have kept distortion out of this solo. Its too "Slash" for a song like this. he sould have kept his guitar on clean and it would have sounded much better.

  • I am a HUGE tim reynolds fan, but sometimes I wish he wouldn't use so many effects, and just let his talent speak for itself

  • trey is good in his own respect, but he doesn't even compare to tim. Hoever thinks different is an ignorant fool.

  • no way man, tim is amazing, see him a bunch of times, but trey really out of this world, definitely one of the best guitarists of our time

  • last minutes best

  • eh wasnt very good if im being honest

  • Honestly? Not that good. Kinda tinny. I've heard better from him.

  • should've just let Tim solo the whole time. Man, I don't see how Trey Anastasio could stand to play guitar next to him! I think I'd just stop playing and watch Tim!

  • Love Dave Matthews & this version of Lie in our graves is definitively my favorite!!
