hey man i have a 68 chevy just like that with the tranny with the granny gear and u don'nt have to use 1 to take off man granny gears used for pulling and hauling heavy stuff like fire wood and what not i also drive my truck daylay and oh yeah its slow backing up to its a 3/4 ton what can ya say its a work truck bro so u still have that old girl your dad got a sweet ass deal i got my truck for $600 your dad pretty much soled that
