  • Think I read about When a Stranger Calls in the Psychotronic film guide, in the prehistoric pre-Internet days. Never saw it (or the remake).

But. I somehow came across this film on HBO (?) in the '90s.

It is the mind-warpiest thing I've seen, with a bizarre plot by a crazy person, acting by schizophreniacs and an audience who must suspend not just belief but possibly all logical brain activity.

Dim the lights. Close the shades. And try to wrap your head around this piece of cinematic "Wha?"

  • I wonder if the number of BABYSITTERS out there reduced in number after seeing this movie?

  • @amuslima99 Not the days of the CELL PHONE !

  • I like the ENDING of the this sequel BETTER than the original ! A real treat for those who have not YET seen it ! Good golly !

  • @amuslima99 Look forward to seeing this sequel then. This week the 2006 version was broadcasted in the UK and then it reminded me that there are older version of this movie. The 2006 version was very disappointing though because it fails to tell the story of the stranger.

  • @idilali Well, you never know what people will like, but I don't think you'll be too disappointed. I didn't know they had a 2006 version ! There are things I like about "When a Stranger Calls" better than the sequel. And some scenes in the sequel I like better than the original. I have yet to see "When A Stranger Calls Back...Again", either.

  • The scene in which she talked someone at the outside of the door was very thrilling.

  • I love her voice and been a fan since the original Stepfather. I can't find that MTV ident she is watching nowhere. Brings back a lot of memories.

  • Scarier than the original, and far scarier than the joke Scream trilogy! lol

  • To everyone asking why she didn't tell him the phone was dead: Would you let a stranger at the door know you were home alone with no way to contact anybody? This was the 90's people Jesus! Lol.

  • I have been searching for this movie for the longest time! It scared the bejesu

s out of me when I was younger!!! Love it,,,,

  • aww she looks so scared i would be too

  • creepy ass movie the phone went off wtf

  • great i'm watching home alone,my sister went to her friends house and my parents went into town to get the takeaway

  • The girl from Stepfather is hot. Why doesn't she relax and take a shower while babysitting?

  • all work and no play makes Jill a dull girl

  • Why is the 30ish woman wearing a red schoolgirl uniform??

  • only see this part, but i do feel sorry for the guy with the broken car :(

  • I never knew there was a sequal to "When a stranger calls"-pretty cool.

  • the stranger leaving his voice in one place but actually being in another is what freaked me out

  • Thank you so much for uploading! Much appreciation.

  • 14:32 UNDERWARE LOL

  • FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK where is the damn original soundtrack to the original movie can ANYONE PLEASE HELP I do not wont the 2006 soundtrack because the 2006 soundtrack blows just like the movie

  • dont forget the home alone movies lol i know they arent scary but a more funnyer and unique way seein it :P

  • Why doesn't she just tell him to go ask the neighbours instead?! -__-

  • i love when the dude is in the wall

  • They need to make a remake of this also... with the same cast as the 2006

  • that's right, it takes about an hour not no 30 minutes. she is smart.

  • No peep hole. shit. i would of not answer the door. I would of called the police and let them know there is a man, who is standing in front of my door and his car is broking down, he is a liar. liar. why he choose this house. Stupid Fuc* probably a werido. why not find a store. To make a phone call or walk down the street no someone's home. she is smart.

  • @livinglife22ful she couldnt call....he cut the line.

  • Jill Schoelen!

  • a cell phone would really help her out.

  • Does ANYONE know any good "Home Invasion" Horror Films that they can reccomend to me?

  • @11poketrainer I personally like When A Stranger Calls the 2006 remake with Camilla Belle that one is a lot scarier than this one or any of the other home invasion films.

  • @tdawgturner do you know any other Home Invasion Films besides When a Stranger Calls, The Strangers, Funny Games, Hard Candy, Last House on the Left etc.

  • @11poketrainer There is one called THEM and its pretty scary.

  • @tdawgturner thanks man! Any others?

  • @11poketrainer

THEM is the French original to the American remake The Strangers.

  • Best "Home Invasion Horror Films" in my opinion are:

    The Strangers-2008

    When a stranger calls-1979

    When a stranger calls back-1993

    When a killer calls-2006

  • the original When A Sranger Calls came out in "79, not "67.

  • why ask why, yall ask too many damn questions,lol...just watch and enjoy the movie

  • ummm.....sorry, but i couldnt watch the when a stranger calls (1967 i think), what happend to her husband??(sorry if it was a bit of an obv. q. lol)

  • Why the fuck is she being such a bitch? Why not just really call them? She needs a knife in the vagina!! angry face!!

  • Wait why didnt she just tell him the phone was dead?

  • @1234babys Why didn't she call them? How? That dude took out the phone line. He knew she was lying from the beginning.

  • Why didnt she just ring them though??it really annoys me!

  • i watched this recently @ a friends house and I was so scared!!!! really great movie and acting though!!!!

  • Creepy ass movie.

  • yes, i fucking found it! l watch 'when a stranger calls [1979]' thinking lt was this.

  • I think the first time I saw this was on LifeTime AGES ago! Scared the crap outta me and I never knew what it was until now! I heart YouTube!

  • is this a sequel?

  • ...that's why I don't have windows right next to the front door! Just stick with the peephole.

  • Plot:

A young babysitter, all alone in the house with two children asleep above, is bothered by a stranger. Unfortunately, the phone's dead...

(I'm gonna start charging you..terror my friend! lol j/k)

  • Jill is a real sweetheart in real life! I just met her at a horror convention in TX hours ago. She actually talked to me unlike other actors and gave me a little hug :) she still has that cute voice after all these years! I will never forget meeting Jill! She is a great actress and should be getting more attention in movies.... Love ya Jill

  • @amydiane197831 Hey amydiane197831 thanks for sharing. Jill Schoelen is my favorite actress and I would love to meet her one day. I knew she would be a great person you can just tell by the way she talks to people like in interviews I seen. She is the coolest, thanks for taking the time to share your story.

  • @TVTERRORLAND ur welcome! And she can talk your ear off which is a gooddd thing!!! :) Much love to you and Jill!

  • @amydiane197831 dang! u took any pics?

  • @KrisJohn325 Yes they only allowed one with each celebrity. I took one with her. She hugged me! it was awesome! If you would like to see it, just let me know..

  • @amydiane197831 i would love to see

  • @KrisJohn325 ok well if you can, private message me your email address cuz i think you cant send pics on YouTube. :)

  • This and The Entity scared me very badly as a child. Is that why I keep a shotgun near me after dark in my own home? haha

  • good movie but it should be called

    When A Stranger Knocks Back

  • this movie is pretty good better than da remake of 2006...

  • best tv horror movie ever.

  • Jill Schoelen suits the long hair better although she is still very attractive in this movie. I always had a crush on her going right back to when she was in Chiller, The Stepfather and Cutting Class and she was also a very good actress.

  • im thinking "why doesnt she have the phone on her" but then i think again this was before everyone had a cell phone.

  • Jill Schoelen was tremendous in both this movie and "The Stepfather" (1987). Both films are underrated and very scary! Thanks for posting.

  • scary film, its a classic it can never be remade

  • I used to have this movie and can't find it now...does anyone know where I can buy a copy???

  • @MySbranch On eBay (official Australian release).

  • love this movie

  • o.o me a1rdi scurd pl0x make moovi stop

  • she sounds like amy adams

  • @24zingo the moral story is get a life and grow up.......its so so so so so sos sad that racism and stereo-types still exist...but gues what white boy???YOUR PRESIDENT IS BLACK , BITCH!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA and there's nothing u can do about whiteboy!

  • Saw the beginning of this film 1 friday night back in like 97/98. Didnt know wat it was about, so started watching thru curiosity. It scared the crap outta me. 1 of da most creepy n tense openings to a film, i have ever seen. Had to switch it off. Freaked me right out

  • Great thriller movie... one of the best tv movie I've seen

  • Comment removed

  • This movie is great! Makes you think about who could really be hiding inside your walls. So creepy!

  • Thanks for posting..this film scared me more than the first and the remake did.....omg!!!! I saw it ages ago ,and couldn`t sit thru it alone..nor could i face babysitting!!!!!

  • No I see why my parents stressed the idea of not answering the door for strangers.

  • Omg I love you lol... I watched this when I was younger with my friend it scared us for weeks.. Thank you for uploading!

  • Answering the door at night..one word...NO unless I am expecting someone

  • @SynL2010 Or ready with the shotgun

  • This movie scared. me. to. death. when I was younger. It's still very creepy and only cements my belief that ventriloquists are not to be trusted.

  • Thank you so much for putting this up!

  • Great!!

It's a luxury can have that movie back.. (fingers crossed..) i adore this movie..

Jill Schoelen does an amazing job with her character...

But yes, indeed the more i like is the openig it get you from the beginning and during the first 20 or 30 minuts, talking "through the door". There are no words to describe the bad guy .. must see the movie ..Extraordinary film!

    Thanks a lot for share!

  • @tranvozcaya yes ,she was good in this ,wasn`t she?...I checked ,as i`d watched

(the Stepfather) a few days ago ,and knew i recognised the girl...especially her voice ,which is quite distinctive....)

Not an easy role ,as to keep u interested ,she had to do more than act scared and yell alot ,as in the first film!!).

Oh ,and have u found yourself LOOKING for him? I mean ,as you`ve already seen this ,.and know how he hides?I spent most of the time looking @ the walls etc ,trying 2 spot him!!

  • @mumof3girls09 =) haha.. yes me too i did try to found him hidden at the wall.. only in a sequence i could see his face and part of the boddy.. In fact ventriloquists are creepy... but in my opinion what he says in acting at the bar makes sence.. i know is twisted, but it had a touch of true..

The most terrifying was in the hospial such a madness, I was shocked.. is one of my favorite movie..

I like good 80's and 90's terror movies. have something of special..

  • @tranvozcaya oh i know where u mean..when he`s in jills` place?? he`s in a plant i think ,and u just spot his face ,as she`s frantically searching for him?

I agree too ,with what you say about the scene in the bar? Those ppl that left were obviously well creeped out aswell!!! It was true tho` ,ppl do hide behind a mask...kind of protection i guess ,espec for someone with as many mental probs as him.

Me too...really like the old scary movies...not sure where u are ,but the uk used 2 have a

  • @tranvozcaya aseries called (hammer horror) ,and also one called just (Thriller)?

They were simple ,but sometimes vERY creepy plots...women trapped in office buildings with a "Boogey man" ,that sort of stuff ,and the thrillers would always have a shocking twist ,yet not any gorey scenes..SOO Much better IMO??

There`s quite a few origionals on here ,and i`ve enjoyed re watching them way more than their 2000/or even 90s` counterparts??

Have a nice evening....don`t go to bed scared!!!LOL

  • @mumof3girls09 yes are so much better! haha lol..

  • @tranvozcaya well ,we maybe just as scared by them ,but at least we don`t need a huge cushion to hide behind every time u sense a gruesome episode coming up!!!

Least in these older films ,you knew it ended with the victim seeing whoever was after them ,not with blood splattered everywhere ,and sickening bits with body parts being mutilated..IMO today they go too far....kind of sensationalise it ,which is sad ,as if you`ve a good story line ,u don`t need it..

Oh ,did u spot the origional guy?

  • @mumof3girls09 (ok ,well ,the ONLY one i mean!LOL)....when she`s leaning against the door ,and he`s telling her to go look into the room??Watch the left hand side of the camera ,you`ll see an outline of a mans face...

hmmm ,can`t work out now ,quite what was supposed to have happened ,and how the dickens did he remove those kids (which she did keep checking!!) ,without her seeing or hearing anything?MEGA CREEPY!!!!

  • @mumof3girls09 yeah.i remember this gal.i rmb her well.she had a little naked scenes in stepfather.nice body......
