  • sounds like I'm in the appalachian mountains. It's got that great "home-made" sound.

  • excellent gourd banjo...are you using nylgut strings?

  • Hey, thanks for watching. Right now I'm using regular nylon strings. I do want to try nylgut or genuine gut strings at some point.

  • Hey Dan! Long time no see! How's everything, bud? That's some rare banjo right there! Did you make that there yourself? And boy, if you don't sound like a professional now, I don't know who does! Got darn good at it, bubba, daaaaarn good! Keep it up!

  • Thanks Mike, good to see you again, hopes everything's fine by you. Things are good, great, and grand over here.

    This banjo was built by Brian Carver, who as of now is only 21---when he built this one he was 19. He's going to be a master by and by if he keeps at it.

    Thanks for your compliments, I've been practicing hard and playing hard because I love the banjo. I don't see how anyone couldn't... in its modern form it's a quintessentially American instrument.

  • Likewise, buddy, glad to see that everything is gloriously great down yonder. Wow, I woulda never guessed that a 19 year old feller built that there gourd banjo! Very impressive, hoss! Yeah, I can tell you've been practicing a whole deal right there! I'm the same, the more I pick, the more I fall in love with it. I have been dreaming lately of a fancier banjo though, I think it's time to move up a little. Just missing the money! I got that Sullivan Greenbrier in mind...

  • Great playing ...and synchronicity. I just took delivery of a goatskin - all systems go to start making my new banjo this weekend. Thanks for the inspiration!!!! :{)}

  • Cool! Make sure you make a video featuring it, I want to see it!

  • It was great to hear this, especially as I drove alongside Loch Lomond yesterday as part of a short break in the Highlands. Now I'm kicking myself for not bringing my banjo - it would have been cool to send a video response from there. Still, maybe I'll stop and sing the song on the way back home.

  • Thanks Father Keith, that would have been amazing. One of my travel goals is Loch Lomond to do that very thing.

  • really nice! great stuff

  • Thanks! I forgot how much fun this banjo is.

  • Cool banjo! Nice playing!

  • Thanks, it's a great way to hear the song in a different way. It's easy on the fingers and light as a feather.

  • Wow! Very cool!

  • Thank you! I love how the song sounds on this banjo.
