  • i tried this test on my 325ci 02 test worked great.but after test i removed the key tried to start engine and the cars imombiliser kicked in..as such had to re program key lucky i.knew how to!!!

  • 13.8 -14.4 is optimal .

  • thanks for the great video. how to check petrol average? like skoda octavia?

  • how do you test to see if the immobilizer is not allowing the car to start?

    2003 bmw 325ci

  • @63B1stmaint you can't! As long as you have a key and it is your car then your BMW E46 should not have any immobilizer to stop you from starting your car at anytime. So unless you broke the window and are trying to start the car with a coat hanger you should not have to worry about any immobilizer. If your car isn't starting with the key chances are it is some other issue and not the original factory BMW Alarm.

  • @olaf2046 calm down -.- one it wasnt my car two it was a loose wire on the cars cpu that runs from one of the sensors that runs to the immo. system. ffs

  • @63B1stmaint if your immobiliser is not allowing car to start it's either your key's transponder (little chip inside of the key) or your car's ecu (Engine control unit) what basically is a main car's computer. You should plug in your car to diagnostic tools via obd2 and do the readings. Your key's transponder need programming or ecu has to be reset or if worse comes to worst you will need new ecu. When you buy ecu like second hand one you have to buy it with car keys as it's matched with ecu

  • @63B1stmaint thats a BMW key problem. I had it this problem. My key's chip wasnt working properly, so I just open it and tried to clean every thing cuz i have an e46 with 240K. I know its a lot but still running great!

  • um

  • If you're above 12.0 volts, you're charging the battery. If you are reading 13 to 14.6 you're healthy and you won't see it at over 14 unless you have taken a toll on your battery. You're fine, and better off being concerned about something that really matters like learning ohm's law.

  • Very good video and easy to follow just tested my batt and it reads exactly the same between 138 and 142... How do i reset my brake fluid service (right button)?

@dondipa sounds like u know nothing about cars most people do a hpi check before you buy a car if u had the report would alert you of wrong mileage on your car indicating the mileage had been altered(are u asian by any chance)..lol

  • @goldBCFC Not sure ifyou are referring to me but I'm not Asian or East Indian. Also there is nothing wrong with my odometer or mileage. My car had geniunely low mileage when I bought it. BMW's have the tamper dot that only the dealership (or someone with BMW software and hardware) can remove if the odometer has been tampered with.

Also I never claim in any of my videos to be a mechanic or car expert. Other than this BMW and the 2010 C300 my girlfriend has I claim no knowledge of other cars.

  • @olaf2046 I've read that the tamper dot indicates that the mileage I can read is different to the real mileage. Is there any way to read that REAL mileage that is supposed to be recorded in the ECU?

  • you sure its not a clocked car? i buyed at 2002 bmw e46 at 76k miles then checked on a online m.o.t and realised it had done 100k back in 2008!

  • @dondipa nope. I bought it from the original owner in 2008 (a 70 year old retired surgeon) out in Long Island. He did nothing to the car other than basic maintanence. The thing was brand spanking new when I got. In the 2-3 years of me owning the car I put more miles and dents on it than the 6-7 years the first owner had it. sad but true. But the car has gotten some nice OEM upgrades under my care.

  • whats the alternator code since the battery is 9

  • @criscblue11 I think the battery and alt is the same code.

  • How do you get it in to test mode? Witch button do I hit. You didn't explain how to get there.

  • @JCruzify1 hold down the button down for a few secondsafter you turn the key like I am doing.

  • thanks for the video. i used it to check my battery tonight (after it wouldn't start... had the stereo on for a few hours over the weekend while i was detailing the inside of the car - can't believe this would have killed it, esp. since i actually drove it back into the garage) - anyway, my number is 108 +/- 2. i tried jumping the battery, still zero turn over just click click click. let it sit, connected to the other car for a good 10 min and still wouldn't get above 107. think it's toast?

  • whats the point of this

  • @whatthehallbetch typical class of 2012 noob (facepalm).

Uhm...the point of this is that unlocking the car computer gives you lots of diagnosis and real time information about the car so you don't have to go to the BMW Dealership and pay them $125 an hour to tell you that you need a new battery. Unlocking also gives you other IMPORTANT information like coolant temperature, engine and oil temperature, voltage values at different points of the car, exact numerical values for fluid levels...

  • @olaf2046 hey, no need to get all insulting. everyones a noob in an area until they learn something new, so quit being a condescending dickhead about it.

  • @whatthehallbetch well it was your wording, You need to learn to communicate better. Ask "hey what does this mean?" and not "whats the point of this?"

I'm sure they teach written communication skills and manners in the Canadian school system. I'm not being a dickhead until someone brings it out of me other than that I'm a really nice guy.

  • @olaf2046 well, i was wondering what the point was, i just didnt realize that you could check your fluid levels and have it as a rev counter and other handy features

  • @whatthehallbetch

yeah it's pretty cool. Sorry for snapping at you. The E46 is a really good DIY friendly car unlike the newer BMWs which are all electronic and dealership needy cars for everything that goes wrong.

I saw you did your Water Pump. How was it? I need to do mine next spring when the weather warms up.

    Cheers.

  • @olaf2046 hey, its all good. no harm no foul. the water pump in my mustang was pretty quick and easy if you do it right the first time. looking at the E46 i drive as well, that might be a little bit more labour intensive considering all the stuff you have to take off. and yeah, E90's are notorious for maintenance user unfriendliness, which is why an E46 would be the newest 3 series i'd buy. but im a sucker for E39 M3's

  • @whatthehallbetch i know right

  • thanks for vid helpful

  • I'm not sure. Why don't you pay your local BMW Dealership $125 and hour to tell you what they are "sure" off. That is if they will even bother with you. I got you this far but if you want to find specific answers GOOGLE is your friend. I'm not going to hold your hand every step of the way. Learn to GOOGLE my friend and ye shall be sure.

  • I'm Not sure, I'm not sure and I'm not sure :D

    But thx for that.

  • Thanks

  • Hey awesome vid thanks for posting

how can I get a list of what the codes mean so I know what I"m checking

I have the same time of interface

  • @onlocash I found it using google or at the e46fantics forums.

  • @olaf2046 Cool man I'll have to check that out

great job on all your vids

  • I have some problems with my factory alarm in my e39 and somebody told me it could be the battery. I checked as you in your vid and my voltage when the engine is off is 12.4-12.5 some say it could be at least 12.6 hence do you think it can cause problems with alarm and do i need to change battery?

  • @kadett1989

sounds like battery. what happens is the alarm either drains the battery or the oem alarm acts up as a way of letting you know when the car is off the battery is not sufficient on its own to power the alarm.

  • @olaf2046

Thx to your reply. But it seems that battery is ok because i`ve turned on my engine to charge a battery and now obc shows about 12.6V. I am looking for something else...

  • lol, so you saw what volts my car had this morning.

  • Hey glad you're back up and running at least. Get those new belts and tensioner pulley installed soon, my friend.

FYI, to RUN the cluster light and dials test, you did everything right, but you needed to hit that mileage button one more time to Active the testing.

  • Glad you are alright.
