  • Those that stayed and endured those 'bright lights' and recordings; that was their choice and fine! Small time however is never given and can't ever be to those who said in their hearts; 'fuck this nonsense exposure' - 'just go away from 'our scene', the floor is ours!!'

  • I travelled up from Torpoint In Cornwall back in 1976 !!

  • Keep The Faith !!!!! Banny from Wigan could also move. ;-)

  • Wow, what memories -catching the train from Stafford through to Wigan - such fun with the guys from Cheltenham, too - where are you all these days? Those who survived that is!!!??!!

  • the guy spinning with the white shirt on is billy wizz(tony mcguire from norwich).

  • I like Mr Cool at 2.50 with his "lean back" dance style. He knew he was good too ! Well done fella. KTF

  • Here in the US this style of music reformulated over time into the "boom-clap" via DJ's and electro. That's how I grew up, c-walking, uprocking, and that kind of thing in LA. I remember a cousin moved from the Dales (my actual surname, seriously!) to Vancouver and came to visit us. He had those exact flare trousers and was feeling the "dance all night vibe" that in hindsight crossed so many subcultures at the time. Now it's entirely a "street" or ethnic thing, but it never really was then.

  • Those big bottom pants make it hard to see the dance steps. It looks like everyone is just sloshing around. Not a very attractive period in fashion. But sure looks like they had fun.

  • Icould do that back in the day now it wears me out just watching them

  • fond memories of me and my sister in full cirlce soul skirts and turtle neck spinning around dance floor

  • The best time of my life, every friday night/sat morn (wigan baths) mr ms, talc, sweaty walls and meat pies :) ktf

    always

  • Love the massive flares and skinny tops, very elegant. If I could go back in time this wouldn't be a bad place to go.

  • so this is why most of the Birds in the 60's and 70's were slim..I love this Music and love watching the dancing..:) memories are the best .;) thanks for the refresher..xx

  • this is quite possibly the coolest thing ive ever seen, god bless the northern soul scene! it'll never die!! ;-)

  • god l miss my weekenders , wigan casino great times and no trouble on the dancefloor ,

  • Not trying to be funny but is there a bit of the northern tradition of clog dancing coming in here? Lot of foot moves.

  • speedos, and I do not mean slinky gay swimming trunks that southerers wear at the beach...

    up all night...

  • total class lean back but mr spinny is the best.....northen gay tossers

  • Love the music and old footage, no matter where else it appears. Wish I had been old enough to attend the clubs in the 60s and 70s and determined to get to an all nighter before my feet give up!

  • I can definitely see the influence this had on breakdancing as well as C-walking. I would have loved loved to go there!!

  • God I miss this so much.

We girls didn't get dolled up in short skirts and high heels, you wore comfortable shoes to dance in. And they guys with their moves, I loved to watch them.

You didn't go to pull, you went to feel they music and dance.

Kids today don't know what having a good time is.

    Keep the faith

  • @blaisineful Keepin it girl

  • @blaisineful so true, couldnt beleive my eyes when i 1st went to wigan, i wonder how many of the younger ones can go and dance all night withoute a drink,or something, yea there was a drug issue but it was up to you if you did or diddnt do them ,at the end of the day it was the music that kept us going and still does. ktf

  • @blaisineful I hear you. But, frankly this period (fashion wise) was not very attractive for guys or girls. No wonder everyone is dancing solo lol. Dolling up went away in the 70s. Thank god it returned in the 80s.

  • @blaisineful nice one ,it was all obout the music

  • the guy with the white shirt spinning is billy wizz(tony mcguire from norwich)

  • Most of them are hardly moving....not enough Amphetamine maybe?

  • fantastic

  • WHAT'S THE TRACK LISTENING: I WANT TO PLAY THEM IN MY HALLOWEEN PARTY!!!!

  • @bigmoiya The guy in the White Shirt is the late James Connolly from Nottingham, he's featured on quite a lot of these Wigan outtakes.

  • @cobbywebbo no billy whizz

  • wow

  • at 3.00 mins in to film the dancer is a guy called archer i went to school with him , he later became a bass player in dexys midnight runners , check them out in geno video hes wearing a woolie hat

  • Scientists have discovered a llink between northern soul and homosexuality

  • @MickeyLove01 I guess thats why you have frequently been seen visiting "dance" clubs wearing flares and a long white coat.

  • @nuggetsII It's okay, I don't mind if you're a poofter.

  • @MickeyLove01 Then I don't mind if you dress up like a "scientist" like the ones you so "closely observe" and have good old honest bum fun MICKEY LOVE STYLE.

  • @nuggetsII Ahh, the give away signs of projection. It never fails.

  • @MickeyLove01 @Mickeymuppet, turn it in son..there's an old saying, "if you've got nothing decent to say, then don't say anything" maybe you should try it out sometime, faggots ..I'll fucking shit 'em!

  • @reldditmot But you just contradicted yourself.

  • All the Guys are wearing flat-fronted Oxford bags! I remember my brother wearing them. There seems to be very few women there, it's almost like a gay scene. I was very young at the time, (about 6 or 7) and I remember hearing about Northern Soul, but didn't understand what it was at the time.

  • hi anybody out there i am trying to find the song by little richie (i am not sure what the name of the song is) the chorus in the song gos something like this (and it looks like feels like and got the ear marks o ya ya its just another heaert break for me) can any body help and is it in you tube YOUR TRULY NORTHERNSOUL STILL KEEPING THE FAITH

  • @1962sharif The Little Richie song is "Just Another Heartache" (aka "Just Another Heartbreak"), originally released on the Sound Stage 7 label. Played in late 1974/early '75 and re-issued (legally), on US Sound Plus I think. Later issued in the UK on Neil Rushton's Inferno label.

You can find it on Youtube.

  • amphetamine, baggy trousers and vests.what more do you need?

  • i used to do these steps and wear these clothes without really knowing why.surely its not ok to go shirtless?why was that tolerated?

  • @TheThrillseeker01 "surely its not ok to go shirtless? why was that tolerated?"

Because they're all as common as muck, and total divs that's why...

  • @drwhatson erm i may only be 17 and not really know too much about the 70s lol but from what im aware and from what ive heard from people who do know more about this era these people werent there to make a statement with what they were wearing they were there to dance and that was it it didnt matter what they wore as long as they were comfortable and willing to dance for hours on end. clearly its not your thing so im sure a lot of people would appreciate you keeping your opinion to yourself

  • @bckflipcurt You don't like it? TOUGH, cos I WAS there throughout and I stand by my comments 100%! The newer "Footsie Generation" were as common as muck and dragged the scene into the gutter of div-ness from whence they came, and where it still languishes today.

  • No members of the former "Mod generation" (from which the early Northern scene had initially evolved) would ever have been seen DEAD dancing shirtless, let alone plastered with tattoos etc.! (At the Twisted Wheel in fact, many of the guys wore mohair suits!) Smart is still smart, Div is still div... and most of them know they're STILL complete divvies to this very day - they're just in terminal denial.

  • Great vid, and great memories. As the saying goes "best days of your life".

  • Loved watching these slick dancers, I used to say I was staying at my mates she used to say she was staying at mine and then we would blag a lift from Billingham to Wigan for the All Nighters, I had the most amazing times there - a great part of my past

I done the same thing...Lol.. :) Those memories...Top Class.. kodie

  • Those were the days, parallel pants, cap sleeve t-shirts and leather soled como shoes! gettin on the northern dance moves. Best years of my life !! keep the faith.

  • @cudaneil1
