  • This is so superb you start thinking that Romola and Miller are actually in love O__o

    Creepy good acting

  • Haha Jane and Frank are right there giving their "secret looks". The Eltons look so miserable. All the while Emma and Knightley light up the room. Just beautiful.

This dance scene is just incredible in more ways than one.

  • well... I just... I just love this perfect happiness on their faces...

  • saw this on PBS not too long ago...twas good....just the others in my family don't like period pieces much:(

  • I love this song so much

I'm watching Emma on pbs right now

  • I just eat scenes like this up where the actors/actresses don't even need to say anything they just say it all in their face/actions. Aaaaah think it's why I love dance scenes in period dramas so much

  • I'm walking down the aisle to this at my wedding. Thanks for posting!

  • I almost want to say the moment he thinks he's in love is during this dance - his face at 1:07 ?

  • FUUU---

I can't decide between mr Darcy and mr Knightley!!

  • Mr. Darcy is like my 3rd favorite behind Mr. Knightley and Mr. Thornton

  • Sorry folks, MrDarcy will always number #1 fav than any of these other guys... didn't you read the book?

  • ifitspink06: I feel the same as you...born in the wrong century...

  • WAGAS MAKA-SMILE SI ATE !

    :)))))

    ANG PANGET NI DHOWAII !

  • I LOVE YOU ! :)

  • what the theme song called i love this song

  • 0:44-48!! i actually fell in love with this scene. The dance is so sweet and romantic!! God I wish i lived in them times where there would be dances you would learn for the balls and gentlemen would maybe ask you for the dance. Now days its all grinding and all crude. I was born in the wrong century.

  • @ifitspink06 me too.

i would miss the dentists and womens rights, and hygiene and stuff. not to mention if you got born into the wrong social class O.o

  • @Felidae08 very true! lol but if i was very rich and lived in the countryside...and had the choice in who to marry...and didn't get ill.. it wouldn't be so bad as long as i was ignorant of what we have today :)

  • even if I don't think that is the Best version of emma concerning the Actors That Dance is the best Scene in al the Jane Austen Movies I've seen

  • OMG!! Stop in 2:00 and look at the face of Emma! hahaha the shadows make her look like a creepy clown hahahaha XD

  • 1:37 I DIED

  • after watching this scene for the millionth time, i couldn't help but notice how awkward jane fairfax dances at 0:46! LOL

it doesn't help that she's paired with the tallest of all the men, while she's the shortest! maybe they're meant to contrast with the perfect match (mr. knightley and emma) =D

  • you can feel the vibes going between them... the intensity is simply amazing ! Jonny Lee Miller's Mr. Knightley eclipses Collin Firth's Mr. Darcy for me !!

  • This scene is pure perfection. I can literally FEEL them falling for each other with every dance move.

  • Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, what do they know of beauty and romance? This is both beautiful and romantic beyond compare! You cannot get anything more beautifully authentic than Jane Austen's novels, and all are so moving!

  • now THIS is romantic...no crudeness, just pure adoration & affection!

  • Their dance gave me tears... It's so beautiful -3 You can see they are in love, even if Emma does not know it yet... -3

  • This makes me cry!!! Jonny Lee Miller lets us see right into the heart of Mr Knightley...<3

Thank you Jane Austen for your beautiful, perfect, swoon-worthy love stories!!

  • you can just tell they are falling in love with each other by how they look at each other!! *sigh*

  • I love Mr. Elton :D

  • Absolutely delightful!

    (look at the Eltons hahahaha)

  • Lovely!

  • I love their love struck lingering looks and adorable eye contact. So in love!

  • owh why can't life still be like this! :(

  • @raverhead I don't think it really was like this! Jane Austen never got treated this well by a man. She created these amazing, loving people out of her own imagination, which really touches me.

  • The 1 dislike is from Jonny Lee Miller himself, who feels too modest to acknowledge his superb acting and dancing.

  • Oh the charm, the grace and the elegance of early 19th century England. Love this and I am certes J.A would too.

  • all i have to say is " Sigh........"

  • Amazing film! Greetings from Hungary.

I have bought the duble dvd in january. Since I ve seen it ~5 times. Then saw the original 4 english epizod. Great novel, fine scenario, directing, site, excellent characters. Romola Garai is beautifull. Perfect Music.

Unfurtunatelly from the hungarian version altogether 11 minutes and 33 seconds missing. Mirax didnt take it to the published film. Its not just entertaning but full of great value (importance of marriege, love, sincerity...) Thanks BBC!!!

  • i am still so obsessed with these scene. it's been a while since i originally commented, but i still think of how magical the acting is and how the scene came together. i love this so much. i think it may be the most romantic scenes i have ever watched.

  • I've never read the book, nor have I seen the full movie, but I absolutely love this scene.

  • @Leonhart407 you should! and you can find the ebook for free on the gutenberg project homepage! and don't worry it's legal.

and you should watch the whole film, it is worth it!!!

  • Don't tell my husband, but I'm a little in love with Jonny Lee Miller, and have been since Eli Stone. Colin Firth's Mr. Darcy was my "dream suitor" until I saw this version of Emma, and now Jonny's Mr. Knightley has shot into first place.

  • i love them :)

i just want to be an extra in one of these films so i can dress up and learn the dances :P

  • I am 24 now, and I first saw this series (and this SCENE) when I was 23, last year. I haven't stopped appreciating the perfection of it ever since. I will never forget this scene until the day I die :') The dynamic between these two characters is simply beautiful, without any other word necessary to describe it.

  • "..Oh so enchanting, beautiful and I am all a flutter, I must go and sit by an open window and fan my person, surely the vapours cannot be upon me, for I saw a Doctor only last evening..." *Swoons yet again*

  • I'm in love with this scene... How can I stop watching it??

  • Pure magic !!!

  • This scene is absolutely beautiful. Great acting from both of them. I can feel the attraction and chemistry. It doesn't hurt that they're both good looking :D

And I'm in love with the music. Gorgeous.

  • Although i have seen ema with gwyneth i prefer this version and i believe tha bbc production offers the best representation of this novel

  • Love this! Does anyone know what number this piece of music is on the soundtrack?

  • @chookaskate it's 19 i think, and it's called "The Last Dance"

  • @inlovewithgreatmusic Thanks heaps! :)

  • This is definitely the best dance of all the adaptions. I like Gwyneth Paltrow's Mr Knightley better though.

  • this adaptation is absolutely amazing!!!! i even like it better than the last one with gwyneth paltrow!!!! Johnny lee miller is such a great actor. ..

  • Its beautiful how they need not speak to have such amazing chemistry. looks say A LOT!!

  • this music is absolutely gorgeous!

  • this music is absolutely gorgeous!

  • ok..i luv da dance...brilliant acting...most of i luv dat knowing smile on mrs.weston's face towards da end of the dance!

  • Love Emma's smile at 1:49!

She realizes that she loves him.

  • i love this so much it hurts.

its like having a love dream, you know when you wake up and your still in love for a few minutes with the perfect guy of your dreams,

i cant watch it too much i dont want to get used to it.

  • Does anyone know the name of this dance? Not the song, because I know that from the sound track, but the actual dance.

  • @lanternburner This is not an actual Regency dance, but a original choreography especially made for this adaptation, so it doesn't have a name.

It is lovely to dance though, learned it at a workshop some time ago :)

  • I also love the song they dance. FYI: on the Emma soundtrack, this cut is called "Last Dance."

  • I SO want to do this at my wedding!

  • Here I am again... sighing and wishing it were me instead of the gorgeous Romola, who is dancing with the equally gorgeous |Mr Knightley... Johhny Lee Miller reall does 'knock yer socks off', with his lovely smile and dimples, and the flickering of his lovely eyelashes... *sighs and fanning frantically now*

"...For to be sure I knew how it would be, the vapours were upon my before my first draft of punch.. . I must sit and watch the assemble from a position by an open window...." LOL :0)x

  • This My Favorite PArt of emma I ♥ Very Much =)

  • That dance...nothing could be more perfect.

  • Esta adaptación me parece maravillosa es bastante fiel a la historia original.. aunque la actuación me parece pudo ser mejor... no dudo de que johnny lee miller es un excelente Mr Knightley!!!

  • I'm beginning to like this version of Emma. Lurve this dancing scene too. Thank u 0anne for uploading it!!!

  • I love this scene! In the beginning, she's giggling like a little girl who is nervous/excited. By the second half, she's looking at him boldly straight in the eye, and he's the one who is having trouble keeping eye contact! It's so brilliant!

  • this is one of the most romantic scenes I have ever seen!!

  • what is this dance called? i love it

  • @jtellez01 Samuel Sim - The Last Dance

  • What's the dance called? I've seen it somewhere before.

  • @azngrl318 ... Not sure of the name of the music, but the 'tune' is played at the start of Emma and also at the end where Knightley takes Emma on honeymoon... wonderful indeed... :0)x

  • gosh, this is so perfect! his eye flicker, her sincere look, both realising they are falling for the other one...ah, if life could be like an austen novel! ;)

  • omg im crying rite now.... dat was so beautiful i hope when i grow up i get a guy like mr,knightley

  • beautiful, really. i showed my best friend this clip. she doesn't know a thing about jane austen or about this movie. she watched this and knew exactly what was going on between these two, and was touched. that's how expressive, sincere and beautiful this clip is <3

  • does anyone know where i can find the score for this series, or who the composer was?

    lovely scene :)

  • i love jonny lee miller as mr knightly he is awesome!!

  • I have the music as the ringtone on my phone, I miss calls just listening to it. This is what life should be like !. I think Romola Garai is wonderrful, fabulous stuff.

  • Exquisite dancing and my heart has near burst from my chest... Lovely, lovely and lovelier still... *swoons into near-by chair*... Beautifully acted and the realization between them both as the dance progresses... Oh did I say this was lovely.. :0)x

  • i was crying on this scene. I was so touched.

  • This is such a lovely adaptation of Emma. I didn't care for the Paltrow and Beckinsale versions, but this one was fabulous. Romola Garai was wonderful, and Jonny Lee Miller was absolutely gorgeous. This is such a beautiful scene. I pretty much fell in love with Mr. Knightley while watching this series. :)

  • One of the most beautiful dance scenes in period drama.

  • Pure screen magic. I can't even think of a dance that would be in this league. Absolutely beautiful watching them realize they're in love.

  • This is so... PERFECT!!! Words can't even begin to describe how wonderfully perfect it is.

  • i just now noticed that Mr. Knightley is shorter than the other men :D

  • I can't believe this is the same actor as in Trainspotting!! What a GREAT actor -- JLM!!!

  • I can't stop smiling! :D

  • This is my most favorite part...love the music.

  • the BEST scene of the Best adaptation to screenof Emma! the emotion is just so honest it makes me smile like a fool. lol.

  • Well said, pandamande. Well said!!!

  • i love this scene way too much!

  • This is THE scene of this adaptation. It's magical. Also, I have found that this version of Emma is better and better every time I watch it. Jonny Lee Miller is perfection, in this and all of his roles I always feel like he has put thought into his character. And Romola Garai is a delight. I could watch this over and over again.

  • "Dear Emma"

Oh! This is the most beautiful dance scene EVER. I love Knightly. I love Emma. I love Jane Austen. I love--I could go on all day!

    Shivers. Oh so romantic.

  • I LOVE THIS SCENE thank you for posting it!!!

  • I love the dance in this movie- elegent and so fun too.

  • Lovely scene. Now I must watch the whole movie!

  • i love the music it is warming

  • Does this song have a name?

  • Found the name: Last Dance.

  • Error. The song is called The Seaside.

  • no this is " the last dance" . "The Seaside" is the song in the final scene where he takes her to the seaside. the two songs are very similar, but this is "the last dance"

  • this was the most beautiful dance and my favorite song. thank you so much for posting this. i have never felt so much emotion as seeing this footage and hearing "the last dance". the dance is so romantic and intimate. the way they move in and away from each other, and then when they embrace the arms above the head meet each other drawing them closer together...so romantic. that is how to fall in love.

  • I love this adaptation! It's much better than I thought it would be, and even better than the other adaptations of JA.

Thank you so much for posting this.

I got a new Jane Austen adaptation favorite :D

  • Bravo! This will be one of my favorites in my collection.

  • Thank you for posting this the music is so lovely!!!

  • This scene makes me catch my breath- so beautiful.

  • I LOVE the way knightly/jonny lee miller looks at her whenever they have to move close to each other in the dance. Absolutely love this scene.

  • I agree, Mr. Miller was wonderful!

  • we should all be so lucky to have someone look at us like that.

  • This is one of the BEST dance scenes that I've ever seen!!!!! Bravo!!!!!

  • this music is sooo beautiful!!

  • If you're in the US, this Emma is FINALLY going to be on PBS tomorrow night (Jan 24) at 9pm EST!

  • she looks like shes on drugs

  • One of the finest dance scenes ever. Just wonderful. The whole serial is a delight and worth watching over and over. This scene and the proposal scene in particular. They would bring out the romantic in anyone. An enchanting production.

  • Watch the dance scene in the film of Mansfield Park (also starring Johnny Lee Miller), just as delightful. I think you might like it, it is on You Tube.

  • Absolutely gorgeous music & scene!!!

  • Brilliant acting.

Both of them look so sincere: it's like watching Emma's subconscious self falling in love at this very moment, while Knightley becomes more convinced of the fact that he loves her.

  • I know, that's exactly what I thought. It's just so beautifully done.

  • @pandamande exactly what i felt!!

  • Comment removed

  • how pretty!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I think this a definite contender for one of the most romantic scenes ever! I must have watched it twenty times (and squealed like a teenager each time!) .

I absolutely adore the betraying eye flicker at 1:37. Brilliant acting from Jonny Lee Miller.

Thanks so much for posting this video!

  • @fantassissimo i couldnt agree more with you! it is a very "simple" scene yet you can perceive all the unconfessed feelings between them!

  • I love this music!

  • What a shame, I was hoping they wouldn't do remake of Emma for a long while when I'd be old enough to play the role of Emma, lol. That's always been a dream of mine heh. Now there is a less chance because they aren't going to keep making remakes :P

  • It's nice but I prefer the dances in the 1996 version with Gwyneth Paltrow

Is that the guy from Mansfield park playing Mr Elton? He's far too cute to play him XD I don't like it when they use the same actors for different movies coz if I like an actor playing a character then I see them in something else, I just see the original character the whole time

This guy looks too young for Mr Knightley. Mr Knightley is meant to bea 16 years older than Emma....

anyway this still looks like a nice movie

  • I find it funny that in the book, Emma has brown hair, but ever since Clueless in almost all the other Emma adaptions, the character of Emma has blonde hair

  • brown hair? i read the book and I don't remember if they talk about her hair.... jane I know

  • oh... I could be wrong... I just remember reading the book and reading that she had brown hair and that Harriet smith had blonde..... I'm not 100% sure though

  • ok =) well brown,blonde,black,... it's almost the same thing xD

  • haha yeah whats the diff? :P

  • i dont know , i had always imagined emma blond!!!

childish , happy and blond :-)

  • yeah I always thought her character suited blond XD. mainly because I saw the movie with Gwyneth Paltrow before I even read the book, so my image of her was already decided

  • Emma is said to have hazel eyes, but no other physical descriptions are given except that she has 'regular features, open countenance, the bloom of full health, a pretty height and size, a firm and upright figure'.

However, I too imagine Emma as a blonde.

  • I just looked it up, and the actors are 10 years apart. I think Johnny Lee Miller looks very young for a 37 year old.

  • wait what?! this guy here is 37 in this movie? omg i thought he was like... no more than 30. At least late twenties... It's most-likely due to lights and make-up though...Him and the girl look quite close in age I think, too close for the characters of Emma and Mr Knightley

  • I love Jane Austen adaptations :) they're always beautiful. Love the music.

  • aww thanks 4 posting!!!

I luv BBC adaptations of Jane Austen's Novels!

  • I've watched this scene 20 times in the last two days, omg, it's so beautiful!

  • i am so glad some people on you tube have good taste.

Love this scence! so cute and adorable music!

    xx

  • ok its official im ADDICTED to Jane Austen

  • mr. knightley looks like he wants to kiss her lol =) so adorable!

  • LOL! He's too much of a gentleman to actually do that, but I get the feeling that at this point if he did, Emma would have let him. With that lighting, that music and Mr Knightley looking at you like THAT, who could resist? ;-)

  • yes........my favourite scene...

  • She's so perfect as Emma :D This version is so much better than the Gwyneth Paltrow one.

  • @katrinalindley

do you think though that when emma tells her friend that she will marry mr knightley instead that she goes running from the room in the gwenith paltrow version is better than how they did it in the bbc version?

  • I absolutely adore the piece of music they're dancing on.....The actors are so talented and this scene is wonderfully done! The dance slowly turns into a shy, unspoken declaration of strong feelings.....It's something more than love is a perfect harmony between two people.

Could anyone find the name of the artist and the music? It's wonderful and I would really like to have it and listen to it more....

  • I believe it's part of the official soundtrack, which should be out soon!

  • If you find out when it will be released, please let us now! The soundtrack is great!

  • I believe it's meant to be December 1, both CD and Itunes. :)

  • the soundtrack has been released on december 1 it came out you can get it on itunes i wanna get it but don't have the money this really is the best version of emma.

i think everyone will agree with me you can see the emotion better in everyone and i love mr knightley looks you can tell he's in love with her

  • Hear hear. :)

As an added note, this specific song is called "The Last Dance" and is the 19th track on the album!

  • i wish there was a cd, I really want the music!! they make such a cute couple!

  • I love the clip as well! just wonder if BBC will publish the soundtrack of the drama. The music is so lovely.. I cannot stop smiling when I saw the clip..... :D

  • this is definately my favourite dance scene from any austen adaptations ! the music is just heavenly + knightley looks just GORGEOUS especially when he's looking at emma all nervous. just love it.

  • I love this scene and think the whole adaption has been beautifully done :)

  • What a lovely understated romantic scene. It beautifully done by both RG & JLM and you can see how it subtly changes from just a dance between "old friends" into a dance of "something more" and a slow awareness creeping into their `ship! Lovely!

  • I'm in love with this music!!!

  • I posted ep.2. and 3 is soon to come :)

    enjot

  • who is the artist of thus tune can someone tell me please?????

i love dis scene so much its just lovely!!!!

  • It's been composed for the series by Samuel Sim who did the music; I think the BBC have released a soundtrack, but I'm not sure.

  • Romola is fantastic!!!!

Superb BBC drama, by far the best adaptation of Emma!

  • Thank you so much for posting this-I LOVE IT!!!!! Hope to see the other episodes SOON!!!!!

  • I'm dying to watch ep 2!!! But dang! I don't live in the UK. Love it when Emma laughs! :)

  • I can't stop watching this scene. It's my favourite ball/dancing scene of all the costume dramas I've ever seen. Absolutely beautiful and stunning. Romola and Jonny are my favourite Emma and Knightley since this adaptation. Well done, BBC!

  • Is there anyway that you can post the entire Episode 2 for those of us who don't reside in the UK? It is so painful not to be able to see the complete episodes.. this is by far the best version of Emma released
