  • The bass in this sounds like "the Package" by A Perfect Circle. The songs were released the same year too.

  • My friend and I absolutely love MediaOutletOnline for doonnlooading f.r..ee m..uzzic such as this... Yall can search it using Google.

  • so this is the new year

  • I think my favorite person to watch is Nick...his energy is hilarious, and awesome all at the same time.

  • @ChasHolling i know! isn't he wild? never seen a bassist of this type of music that gets down that much.

  • @katyagorm dude, he gets down like that at every show. I was all "wtf?" when I saw them live thinking the same thing.

  • OMG CRAIG FERGUSON'S BETTER THAN THIS DOUCHE!

  • wow rush much?

  • @OliverEdwardV if it had cheesy chorus tone, and 7/4..maybe?

  • @mpwiest70 ...? I was saying the tempo was fast? Not really sure where you were coming from. No hate, just a bit confused :)

  • @mpwiest70 what? I'm saying they rushed the song; played too fast o_O

No idea what you're talking about!

  • @mpwiest70 Ha. I see what you did there.

  • i love how they are soo into it lol

  • Remeber catching this on tv love them

  • the dude in big bang theory looks like nick harmer XD hahahahah

i love nick he is one of my influences

    and happy new year

  • damn he sounds the same live hella good

  • aww...i love this song..so much!..lol..memories..

    Thank you ^_^

  • This is awesome !

  • they look so young!!!

  • I guess kids sign giant record deals and perform to sell out crowds and stadiums. I wish I was a little kid now..

  • you will never learn royboy421

  • I think they are very skilled musicians. Who keep it real, as big as they have gotten their music has never really changed too much. It may not be recorded on answering machines anymore and may have gotten a little bit more polished but you can't say it isn't good stuff.

  • @royboy421 I think that's what the Meat Market guy was trying to say. I checked out those old videos of DCFC that he was talking about. They're pretty shitty. They've gotten tons better.

  • @smeh69 they have gotten heaps better performing, but i like their older music better than their newer stuff. eg photo album and trans, better than plans and narrow stairs, but i still love all of their stuff :)

  • @jtmcrae1 I totally back you up, but they have some pretty good new tracks too! we looked like giants, grapevine fires, cath, soul meets body, etc.

  • @vsadlarry yeah i know and i do like them. all i am really saying saying is that my favourite album are the older ones such as Transatlanticism and Photo Album :)

  • The vocalist reminds me so much of Jim Adkins from jimmy eat world. great song tough

  • It's a little fast, still good! :D

  • im a total metalhead. fav band is Metallica, but that doesn't change the fact that i love this band's music. great stuff. Tranlanticism is one of my most fav albums ever!!!!

  • hahaaha amazing. i found a twin lol.. my fav band is metallica too. but i have a great deal of respect to death cab,.. simply a brilliant band..

  • Damn...

I wish I could have seen them when they came here...

  • transatlanticism and craig kilborn. the good old days right??

i say no more airplanes or speedtrains or freeways

  • my life hardly, it just gets to me when people put down ben as they are no doubt very envious of his brilliant work & life

  • you sir are a douche and im pretty sure if ben and chris took a shit it'd be more talented than anything you will do in your entire sad life, brilliant first performance.

  • is he playing a strat with a tele neck? love this song!

  • Yeah he looks a little overexcited but i'm sure you would too if you were playing on television for the first time to a national audience.

He's rocking out. What's the big deal?

  • cool this is their first show one tv, sweeet

  • I think that's the worst idea I've ever heard. Ever.

  • brilliant!

  • Chris' note at 3:27 is awesome.

  • i totally agree

  • Actually, you're incapable of understanding music. Kbye

  • but how do you really know? :)~

  • yeah, he looks like a cock. but you know, for coming up with that rather decent bassline while they were writing this song....he deserves to strut it a bit. maybe he had practiced enough in the recording studio and wanted to show it off to everyone in TV land.

  • Chuck Norris asked Nick Harmer to play him a DCFC song, and Nick roundhouse bassed him.

  • Holy shit, I love you for this

  • I fucking love this band...and i usually listen to death metal so death cab really got it right.

  • same here men dcfc are amaze

  • Hes just enjoying it. Would you prefer he stand still and look like hes bored as a bitch?

  • Nick Harmer is the coolest motherfucker in the world. You don't know shit, so shut the fuck up.

  • I hate the way the bassist acts.

  • do you play music? ever had the hair on the back of your neck stand up because what your playing moves you so far past the point of joy and happiness that you swear you know what it's like to touch the sky?

pick up a guitar, go learn what its like to live.

  • That doesn't look like Chris Walla at all

  • these guys are truly AMAZING and might i point out how hot the lead singer looks great in this video ;P

  • hey all dcfc fans,

i'm wondering witch album to purchase. i'm hesitating between Narrow Stairs, Plans or Transatlanticism...

    any thoughts?

  • We Have the Facts and We're Voting Yes, and Transatlanticism

  • Definitely Plans and The Photo Album

  • Transaltanticism will always be my fave. Great album!

  • it's amazing to think how far they have come since this.

  • These guys are amazing, one of my favorite bands and they can play amazingly live.

  • they are good live apparently, guitars sound GREAT, this is a good mix for tv

  • buenisima rola !! me late mas esta version q la del album..

  • Yes! Awesome drums on this song!

  • Damn love Death Cab but that bass is painfully loud in the mix.

  • i know. this was driving me crazy.

  • What's your favorite album, I can't choose between the photo album and trans

  • photo album isn't just my favorite death cab cd, it's my favorite cd of all time.

  • man, the drums in this song make no sense to me.

idon't even know how the guy memorizes it, i don't see the pattern...

that being said the drums are awesome

  • i was just thinking that.

    so incredible

  • Actually, it's not too bad.

They are a little weird, but there is a pattern, and it fits the song amazingly.

  • This is how you know they're sooooo incredible, when his voice comes in and its soooo real sounding, but so perfectly in key, it makes you speachless, and really know they're gonna stay.

  • gosh Benjamin looks so young here

  • YEAH!

  • walla totally came in too early!

  • lol yeah do you see how he smiled at nick? they are so awesome =]

  • ist that a stratocaster with a telecaster head? this song is good I like it

  • iam pretty sure its a Gnl guitar. I know its a guitar by leo fender. he doesnt play this guitar now all he plays are Gnl telecasters but iam pretty sure its a gnl =]

  • No, its not, but it looks like it. Yeah thats all he plays, its wierd he plays one electric guitar and one acoustic, but he plays each in atleast 2 colors, funny I think. I would like to try a Gnl, they sound absolutely amazing.

  • the drums are very good

  • the bass is in tune and sounds fine. seeing them in 4 days.

  • i cant decide if i like ben more on guitar or piano... its so hard :]

  • theyre so amazing. just 1 more week till i see them!

  • dude, transatlanticism is the sh*t. =]

& death cab is sick nasty and so is Nick xD

  • lol sick nasty?

  • okay everyone needs to shut up.

stop fighting, just listen to death cab.

    they are so amazing.

    and this is sooo old.

    ben looks so different. <3

  • "there'd be no distance that could hold us back..."

    oh my god...

  • Ch. Walla totally make this song what it is!

  • Haha playing the bass to hard? Havent you heard the recording? He's damn good at what he does. The bass stands out more than anything in the recording as well, ease up they know what they're doing.

  • Death cab for cutie is briliant,a love it XD!

  • Greatest Band Ever! I love their stage presence.

Nick Harmer looks like he could be a distant relative of Joaquin Phoenix...

  • wrong.

  • Right... noob

  • oh, nice vocabulary, are you 12 come on be mature.

  • well, on the other hand the drums freakin' rule!

and the bass would of sounded better if it was in tune with the rest of the guitar

  • People that are saying the bass is shit are complete dumbasses. if you dont like the sound of a fender, you basically dont like bass guitars, so stfu

  • its not the fender u dicknose its the fact that hes playing way to hard..

  • This song is really hard to play on guitar for people that are trying to learn it, considering all the tabs online suck, and you cant play by ear because you can hardly hear the guitar. Will anybody tab this song out for me the RIGHT way? Also, they did great in this. Everything is perfect. Oh, and I think the bass sounded great at high volume.

  • i think that instrumentally speaking, this band usually keeps it together live...the only shortcoming is the intonation in gibbard's singing on occasion(and depending on the show rather often). the bass is just overdriven though a RAT. If I were making a national debut as a rock n roll band, I'd want to crank it up to! Just an all around good rock band with a far better vocabulary of words and suspended chords (and a few diminished ones on PLANS!) than the average indie band.

  • Bad sounding? Come on! When the album came out I saw this version first and was a (very little) bit disappointed when I heard the studio version. This is played so tight and look how easy it is for Ben to sing and get that clear tone. By the way, this is played a bit faster and half a tone lower than the studio version.

  • Ben Gibbard and Chris Walla's writing is deep and well constructed. The musicianship and production on Death Cab's records are the closest thing to The Beatles that's out today. They make good albums, NOT because they were told how to, NOT because whinny, straight-haired kids like to cry while listening to it, and NOT because they want money. They care about making good music. I think they're the most creative and music-loving band out today, and they deserve more credit than people give them.

  • agreed

  • Exactly.

  • the bass sounds really bad on this recording

in Drive well sleep carefully it sounds perfect live

they must have screwed up a nob or something

  • first of hall

how does one fuck a dick

    and kids

please grow up and grow a pair

  • i unfortuantly have an answer to your question. docking

  • haha

    what the fuck

  • i'm really ashamed to know this. lol

  • haha

  • This sounds so bad live, how can anyone say this sounds good??? They could have done sooo much better.

  • ew1 but awesome vid, anyway

  • i would do him

  • They sound great live, seeing them would be amazing

  • one of the few bands that actually sound good live.

  • at 3:04 omgosh!

    ben's voice...

    ohh dear.

  • yeah totally...i mean him actually looking good. i'm surprised.

  • The World Would Be A Better Place With Less People Like You.

  • Wow, this one is really cool. Great feelings.

  • wow, this is amazing.

their performance and sound and everything.

i love how ben's voice actually sounds like it does on the albums

    <3

  • Ben is a lyrical and musical genius and this song is honestly a landmark of modern great music. Hell, the entire Transatlanticism album is. This song, "what Sarah Said", as well as "Company Calls Epilogue" are some of the only songs that actually made me cry after listening to them a couple times and really taking in the meanings.

  • oh I love Jason Mcgerr drumming in this song..

  • Spiggin' awesome.

  • He looks so diffrent without glasses and a shave.

  • Best drummer out there. Ridiculous

  • Yea he us amazing he reminds me of the drummer from Motion City Soundtrack. They both have a unique "precise" style.

  • yea man, I know exactly what you mean. the MCS drummer has a sweet haircut tho =p (i'm from rochester, an hour south of where they're from)

  • you should see the drummer from the strokes and bloc party

  • the best band ever ever ever ever!!!!

  • whether a studio recording or a live performance, death cab for cutie always comes out excellent. one of my favorite bands ever!

  • ben gibbard is so sexxxxxy!

  • great performance..

  • chris laughs in the beginning cuz he started too soon. awesome performance nonetheless

  • love this song! :)

  • death cab for cutie the # 1

  • I want Ben Gibbard to have my babies

  • whaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!! yea they nice but b.g. and dem choppa city boyz run shit
