@hrhjudy I think you misunderstand the song.It's not about living for today as in 'go out and do drugs, risk your life' but live for today as in the understanding that we don't know what tomorrow brings. None of us know when we will leave this world, for each of us it could come at any moment, so why not live in peace with everyone to the best of our ability? I'm an atheist. I was a former Christian not long ago. I was forced to live as a Christian at a young age, esp. by my grandparents who attend church and work in church. They work very hard and stay very healthy. If God or a god was ACTUALLY giving them strength to get them where they are now -- rich and happy, would they still be rich and happy, if they had EXCLUDED God? Of course! I'm an atheist. I was a former Christian not long ago. I was forced to live as a Christian at a young age, esp. by my grandparents who attend church and work in church. They work very hard and stay very healthy. If God or a god was ACTUALLY giving them strength to get them where they are now -- rich and happy, would they still be rich and happy, if they had EXCLUDED God? Of course! Yes, it would be a different outcome: It's just rolling dice. I'm very respectful & nice to those who DO believe!

Not all Religions promote Compulsion or Force their Teachings upon you. Buddhism, Hinduism, Sikhism, Jainism, Zoroastrianism are quite peaceful religions. Never in the History have there been Wars fought on the Grounds of these Religion since they advocate Non-Violence and Love among people. why did religion prevail, even though the ancient greeks already knew materialism?
it seems to me atheism has an evolutionary disadvantage (I guess because atheists are less fertile)

It might have had something to do with the systematic extermination or banishment of people who didn't believe in the "correct" reality.
Religious tolerance is a very recent invention. Atheists are still forced to subsidize religion to this day even here in America.
Those who seek truth welcome scrutiny, criticism, challenge, questions, and all manner of examination and never appear the least bit threatened or offended by it. Contrast that with the behavior of the religious to this day.

christianity evolve wht is today.. there were many christian competin groups, even before the biblical jesus birth.. it process started in alexandria, the melting pot of religion. jews, greecks and other meet and share their belief. "stealing" many stuff from other religions was very common at that time. christianity is a blend of jewish, hellenistic and zoroastrian belief.

Atheists are tired of Christians shoving bullshit up our asses, so we do it in retaliation. Religion destroys cultures and countries and creates wars. Face facts, if there was no religion, there wouldn't be any World Wars. Atheists try to convert others to Atheism for they're own good. Atheists can see past the screen of religions, and that gives us special views of what is really happening.
