The Germans have a long history in film and TV making (and entertainment in general) that has eventually led to TV shows like this. BTW the Rock Am Ring production was run by an international crew so it's hardly a German production. And maybe blue just isn't my favorite color ;)

I also think it is a bit dumb, but they probably thought its better to be on the safe side. But i have seen german fans waving original logo banners and stuff at the concerts, so they must not care about the other meanings, which i think is good.

@luridlayercake well it does look like the Nazi SS so they altered especially for Germany, they were afraid that if they used Peter Criss' original idea it would hurt sales on their shows and merchandise. It was an after thought that they might offend the German people. Over all they were just watching their backsides, and I'd say it better to be safe than sorry. It also goes to show what an awesome sense of loyalty Germans have that they display both logos.
