  • a QUART of milk

For fuck sakes, I live in metric Canada and even I had the original version of this.

  • In our house, it was "bread, milk and cigarettes" LOL!

  • When I was a kid, I'd hear her say, "a loaf of bread, a POTATO of milk, and a stick of butter." :)

  • Memoriesssssssssssssssssssssssss :)

  • My enrichment Teacher mrs.garner told us about this. it was so funny how she mimicked it

  • I miss the 80's. Nowadays the neighbors would report that mother for letting her daughter go to the store alone.

  • I loved the way this little girl talked when I was little so I never forgot loaf of bread, a container of milk, and a stick of butter

  • I caught myself saying this while shopping today..I haven't seen this since I was a kid.

  • that's a strange looking loaf of bread....i wonder if it was really a package of drugs, disguised as a loaf of bread? hmmmm.......

  • Brilliant artist Jim Simon (Wantu) ... Great stuff for Sesame Street, Electric Company, and Vegetable Soup! LOVE. IT.

  • wow, that was educational. No wonder today's generation is so retarded.

  • @Sherpaful Which generation?

  • just been listening to bread and butter by the roots, and realised that the lyric "a loaf of bread, milk and eggs stick of butter" comes from this. sesame street inspires hip hop, yeah!

  • suddenly I'm six years old again!

  • Love this! Brings back Really Great Memories.. BiG Thanks! :D

  • I remember when I was a kid I though the mother was saying a POTATO of milk and thinking "What the heck is a POTATO of milk?"

  • As a matter of fact, I used to think the mother was saying "Potato Milk" until very young kids who were my age when I was very young, were quoting the lines to themselves what the little girl was saying to herself so she will remember what to buy where I learned it was "container of milk." Since I thought it was "Potato Milk" being said, and since the mother and the daughter are two African American people, I thought "Potato Milk" was a type of milk African American people drink.

  • Cute and classic.

  • 2 people forgot the sticka buttah.

  • Thumbs up if you're here because you saw this on the Cleveland show and remember seeing it as a child over two decades ago.

  • @PropellerBusted Didn't see it on the Cleveland Show..I'm in the UK and I'm pretty sure I saw it on Sesame St :) All these years later and I remember too! - 'a loaf of bread, a container of milk and stick-a-butta!' (all I had to put into search was 'and a stick' and there it was :)

  • this use to make me hungry

  • Lol A great reminder of a childhood favorite through The Cleveland Show. :-))

  • They just referenced this on The Cleveland Show. I can't believe how quickly I recognized it. haha

  • This is out in the hood.....today it would be get the welfare, line of crack, and my pimp

  • "Can you remember what my mommy said?" Hell yeah kid! I've remembered it for over 25 years!!! HAHA! Sesame Street memory lesson FTW!!

  • @asaxton01 "Hell yeah kid! I've remembered it for over 25 years!!! "

Ain't THAT the truth! I think it's the little girl's voice. "Stick a buttah." Crazy man.

  • when the mother starts talking on seconds 0:55, that scared me as a kid.

  • I had to mute and not watch a soup commercial to watch this video, thanks new age youtube!

  • i remember this all my life, but noone my age did. thanks

  • Ah the days when tv was awesome.

  • if this were on Tom & Jerry it would probably get censored

  • This was always one of my faves on Sesame Street. And it was actually safe to let a kid go to the store alone in those days! Good times.

  • That beat is pretty dope. Surprised no one's sampled it yet...

  • @elsongs give it time...

  • @elsongs I'm about to sample this beat right now. wish me luck.

  • Outstanding

  • Wow. Youtube is nostalgia king. Good post, forgot all about this till I saw the title.

  • @BrianRIngram

    huuuuuurrr duuuuuuurrrrr

  • I havent seen this in 30 years....while making supper tonight, I suddenly got it stuck in my head....I looked it up and I am SO GLAD to see it...I LOVED it when I was 5.

  • I was just talking about this with my parents and decided to search for it. Awesome!! I'll never forget what she was supposed to shop for.

  • Aww, I needed this good memory. It looks like the same animation from Vegetable Soup. Good memories :)

  • Damn this one is edited too! The one I remember the kid passes all kinds of trippy crazy things on the street along the way to make her forget.. Very psychedelic it was anyone know that one? Ill never forget it.

  • @Wolfsheim23 That's not this one. The one you're thinking of is the "Lost Boy"

  • @Wolfsheim23 Don't worry, the lost kid passing all the trippy scary things is another clip, and it's on YouTube too. Funny--my sister gets these two clips mixed up in her memory too. Not me! This one never *scared* me.

  • OMG..that just really took me back :)

  • At the end she asks for a loase of bread, I always found that funny.

  • I love this one.

Surprised I can't find the one with the little boy who makes up stories about how the milk got spilled. Like a ballplayer did it or a demolition ball. Loved that one too.

  • I just used this in a joke a couple of minutes ago. Then I was like, "Let me see if I can find this on Youtube". And here it is. I remember this one, but I know there was one with a boy as well with different animation.

  • this is great , me and my sisters used to spoof on this when we were kids we changed the words around a bit , but now I will say in their presence a loaf of bread and the rest .... Its so good for a laugh ev en after al these years.

  • Great Jim Simon cartoon!

    I always liked his work.

He did the "Soul Train"animated train in the 70's.

A true pioneer, who is still going strong today.

  • I haven't seen this in about 25 or 26 years, and I've remembered "a loaf of bread, a container of milk, and a stick of butter" since I was 4 or 5! I've even thought about it over the years, but couldn't remember the animation... good to see it again!! Thanks!!

  • I somehow remember this being longer, w/more detail...

  • it was...and it was with a little boy, not a girl..he encountered people on the way that made him forget..this is not the one we remember

  • I was remembering a boy, too. Wonder if anyone has that clip?

  • These old Sesame clips pwn hands down! I remembered this one just as well as the little girl. :)

  • I LOVED this when I was little! Cool!

  • YAY!! One of my all time favorites!! Thank you for posting! :D
