This is the song that made me a Tom Waits lover forever. It strings every feeling in my body to sing with it. I would love to be in New Orleans with Tom Waits sharing a drink and singing it... I can see that in my dreams

Talent is like the marksman who hits a target which others cannot reach; genius is like the marksman who hits a target, as far as which others cannot even see.
-Arthur Schopenhauer, The World as Will and Representation
I fell in love with this tune many years ago. I lived on Burgundy St. in the Quarter for a long time and the memories this number brings back seem endless to me. I've been gone from New Orleans for some time now and as so the golden times that once were. A VERY BIG THANKS TOM !

Julie, if only I could allow myself to say that I miss you dearly.
@doretgar I got acquired to him pretty quick.XD I'm 17 years old, and I can't say I've ever listened to a more talented artist. His vocals and lyrics and style are all just... so perfectly imperfect.
Try to listen other music than mtv, read some real books, open you eyes to the World, and perhaps one day you will understand that Tom Waits is a genious...
Thank you for posting these T. Waits videos. I am a huge fan and didn't know there were videos of all this work. In my opinion he is the greatest american writer, poet, artist alive. History will show I am right. Thanks again!!

Everyone thinks he's so great, but I think he sounds like a belching grizzly bear. (can't wait to see how many negative replies I get for this!)

If Tom played this song for New Orleans after the disaster, there's no doubt he'd have raised thousands... A beautiful song by an amazing artist.
