The voice actors (or actresses) are usually adults, it's just that they should pretend to be like the character.

Since Maria is a 12-year-old little girl, the voice actress is supposed to make it sounds childish, right?

I don't think this is the most difficult boss in the game. The Hydra is fare more difficult boss fight imho.
