@RainCityBlues...The fact is that Mr. Watts got them dancing in the aisles and Neil Peart doesn't. He's a very good drummer for what he does (Prog-rock), but He's no Philly Joe Jones.
@azlimbor You do realize he is one of the greatest rock drummers to ever live right? Probably not, you just decide to chime in when you have no idea WTF you are talking about.
First time I have seen this. I read about it in Tom Davis' (SNL, Franken&Davis) book. Dan Aykroyd emceed. Davis was there to help Aykroyd. AC/DC, and The Stones were there, among others. @robertdothatgmail They did an album called Feedback dedicated to the older songs they were influenced by, and the Stones were on the same bill, so it made sense.
They really should record a full length audio of this cover. Awesome, absolutely awesome. To be honest, among the very best of anything Rush played :-)
Hey guys check out our band Panacea. We are heavily influenced by Rush. Please subscribe and we accept ALL friend requests. We already have a few videos out there.
This was the craziest concert ever, AC/DC, Rolling Stones, Guess Who, Rush...all in one day, not to mention many other amazing groups like the Isley Brothers, 500,000 people...it was like a 12 hour orgasm.
Actually, it's funny... in his book "Traveling Music," Neil talks about how sore and nervous he was playing this show. They only had a couple weeks preparation after having not played since the Rio show several months earlier.
@glsingle I understand. You were lucky to hear/see them in the early 70's when covers were their main repertoire. Their cover of Bad Boy from 1974 is one of the greatest covers of any song. But now, since they have countless fantastic originals, hearing them do covers is just not what I want because I prefer THEIR tunes to anyone elses. I enjoyed Feedback for the most part. Some of the selections were questionable.
This whole show although hastily put together was very pleasing even if it was a blistering hot day. The two bands I love the most are The Stones and Rush so you can imagine my 'Satisfaction' when I see this AWESOME cover! Originally Bill Wyman made the bass line on this unique and it is regarded as pioneering at the time. When I heard Charlie sought out Neil to shake hands I was crying with Canadian pride! Luckily I met them in the 4Seasons and had a drink with them the day before this show!
I'm a Rush fan. I've never heard the Stones love Rush, but that would be a cool thing to find out. I know Charle Watts watched them onstage playing at that show and went to meet Neil after Rush played and they shook hands and exchanged a few words, but Ive never heard anything about the Stones loving Rush. Any confirmation on the source of that?
Never mentioned it. He's a fan of Bill Bruford, Barriemore Barlow, Ginger Baker, Stewart Copeland, and, of course, Buddy Rich. I recall listening to solos by Peart and Barlow -- one would think that Neil lifted Barlow's licks.
geddy lee is the best fucking bassist in the world! im glad he didnt sing it, cause even if i love him, his voice doesnt fit with this song, RUSH IS DA BOMB!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
netowner666....DA BOMB?? What the hell is that?? Do you like Rush? Do you dislike RUSH? Speak English man!!! By the way, as for your comment about Geddy' Lee's voice....have you listened to Feedback??
@jtoshawa dude, what the hell? when you say that something is da bomb you mean it rocks, i can say it however the hell i want to and i didnt say anything about geddy's voice except that his voice is not very good to sing this song because it has a high tone
@jtoshawa i dont live in USA or the UK, i live in mexico, but even like that i know that "da bomb" is a common expression of approval, i guess you're the one who doesnt know the english language, so if you disagree with how i express myself you can go fuck yourself
@netowner666 I agree with jtoshawa...."da bomb" is a ridiculous expression......I know the English language (notice I know where to use caps?) and so does jtoshawa. I get sick and tired of people that don't speak properly, so mabye, just maybe you should go fuck yourself too!!!
@glsingle whatever, im sick of this discussion, that comment is from months ago! and just for the record i could call it a thousand names for "good" or "awesome" and in the end, they all mean the same fucking thing
The reason for the washing machines is because these guys are so busy they don't have time for laundry....it's basic multitasking. If you look close you can see Alex changing the oil in his car. I think Neil is buffing his shoes at one point. Man these Willowdale boys are good.
I believe they're bass amps disguised as washing machines. On their Snakes and Arrows tour Geddy had another disguised as chicken roasters. Bizarre eh? : )
Best musicians ever. Well there are better than Lifeson, but he's probably the most underrated guitarists ever. Don't think I'm saying he sucks, there are just better.
Great!! No wonder the Stones love Rush!! Oh and by the way Kobeownnzu81...what language is that?? Maybe you should take some spelling and grammar lessons!!

@Rushguitarist1 that's very true. drumming is his only expression because he is wrought with so much inner torment and sadness but the love of music as well. you can't be that happy and that horribly depressed at the same time physically, so he shows no emotion and just plays. plus he's a total god.

@luit13 Sounds like you are the one doing some judging there hoss.

@lastdaysguitar I am a Stones fan since 1982, have about anything there is available about the band (dvd's, documentaries, cd's, books you name it). Family is everything for these guys, they even take the whole bunch on tour! Yeah sure, there have been devorces, but we are all on the risk of experiencing one of those. That doesn't make you a bad person.
You call me a creep. How would you know? You're doin' it again.
why do people campare bands like cars or something i believe music brings out all emotion in people be it sad or funny or it makes you want to jump up and play air guitar ya i love Rush and The stones and i think Mick and Geddy would agree.
This is not a true "cover" of Paint it Black. Rush is actually carrying on an old concert tradition that bands don't really do anymore. They, because they are the warm-up to the headliner (Stones), play a short snippet of one of the headliners songs. I've seen this many times at concerts back in the day. It's really cool that Rush paid respect to the Rolling Stones in this way. Anyway, I haven't seen this done in a long time.
Rush totally kills the Rolling Stones. Not in the bad way! IMO, Rush is superior to that of the RS, even though I love RS as well. But this is a great song, and an even better cover of it! Can anyone tell me where there might be a full length version of this, if any? Thanks!
Geddy doesn't use bass amps he runs through the PA. So they put random things behind him so it doesn't look bare. They also use oven and vending machines. Just a gimmick.
It's a Rush thing. Geddy Lee decorates the stage with whatever comes to mind. For the Vapor Trails/30th Anniversary tours it was wsahing machines filled with t-shirts (they'd hand out at random intervals and at the end of shows).
This year's tour, the Sankes & Arrows one, He bought commercial rotisseries and was cooking tons of chicken on stage. lol.
Rush has been my favourite band now for, what, 28 years? But I hate the Rolling Stones (much respect, though), so this tune goes right over my head.
I don't think Rush sounded all that great on this day. Just my opinion. I think the "event" distracted them from their normal game faces. And besides, who cares about puttin' on a stellar set (musically-speaking)when you're rocking that many people? It's about the, again, event, not how cracking your band is at that moment.
hey, was this on "feedback"? cause I never really have taken a close look at it's track. I know "summertime blues" is on there and so is "the seeker".
whats up with the laundry washing at 0:48? :P

@SteffeLeffe
Good point & true that... the Stones and Rush are very different animals.
lastdaysguitar 1 year ago
@lastdaysguitar Indeedio, because it works in both directions - Stones couldn't create what Rus has. :)

i dunno they have some pretty complex songs themselfs
blackbarron0456 2 years ago
I bet Rush really struggled to learn this...all the complex parts and difficult arangments. Proubly wore the boys out.

why do people campare bands like cars or something i believe music brings out all emotion in people be it sad or funny or it makes you want to jump up and play air guitar ya i love Rush and The stones and i think Mick and Geddy would agree.

Thanks!
RUSH FTW!!

Geddy doesn't use bass amps he runs through the PA. So they put random things behind him so it doesn't look bare. They also use oven and vending machines. Just a gimmick.

ah, ok. thanks.

ahaha I don't know?

I like this version better but to bad it isnt the whole song

hey, was this on "feedback"? cause I never really have taken a close look at it's track. I know "summertime blues" is on there and so is "the seeker".
