With everything that god gave us and how clearly evident gOD is how could we question his greatness?? You know the way he sits back and does nothing. Always being their in ancient history with stories passed down by highly superstitious uneducated desert goat herders with stories that only contradict them selves every story or so. He does such a good job of staying out of the way its almost like gODs not even there. Like as though he doesnt exist at all. Good trick gOD. Its all about faith
The "adaptations" on disc 2 completely go against the spirit and intentions of a capella shape-note SacredHarp/ChristianHarmony music. The SacredHarp tunes were not intended for solos by individuals; solos put ego and individual face front and center. The SH ethos is a communal effort of four disparate parts each made up of a group of individuals , whom the music bonds together. Its purpose is the opposite of an ego trip; it is for submerging one's selfishness to the higher purpose of
@ClaireConrad—helping the group rise spiritually to blend as a composite chorus of praise to an ineffable God who is all about serving others—and in the process, learning the serenity and peace of true humility (Romans 12:3 and 12:16). Second, to surround and underpin and blanket the words with instruments should make the very tunes themselves leap off the pages and cry out in pain and anguish. I am not doctrinally against musical instruments in praising God with instruments (many mentions in
@ClaireConrad—the book of Psalms; I Chronicles 15:28, 2 Chron. 7:6 & 34:12, 2 Kings 3:15). But the very meaning of “sacred harp” is the unaccompanied human voice. The complexity of the harmonies (another reason to consign solos to the ash heap) cannot be fully appreciated nor whole-heartedly produced by the singers if they have the crutch and supplantation of any instrument other than their own voices.
Hi, sorry but this is a very old song. The lyrics at least. The words are almost identical to "When Absalom Was Slain", a madrigal by Thomas Thompkins written around 1620 in Elizabethan England. Several other madrigals were written around this time based on the same lyrics. I'm not sure who the original author is; Elizabethan musicians borrowed from each other all the time. I recommend you check out Thompkins' version. For my tastes a much more powerful song than the pop version in this video.
I think the band is great but I can't find any news about them - their website has been updated last in 2006! and where to find their records?? can anyone help me???
This is a wonderful example of a great blend of traditional and modern gospel musical styles and the performance and video is top notch for sure! One of my favorites this year!
Wish I could find a version of #14 on here! It's beautiful

@arepasheat William Billings composed some of the most beautiful music, you should be honored to have him as an ancestor
