  • never mind!

  • epi or gibby?

  • successfully nutted

  • I play the same model and color Les Paul you're fixing.

This video was incredibly interesting to me.

    Thanks for posting it!!!!

  • Dave, how do you lower the nut action?

  • @oldfatguyrr1

you have to file the nut slot deeper.

it's very easy to fuk it up.

    trust me

  • great video Dave...

  • @indianjjy

    Hey thanks !!!

  • Dave, you have reached a high level in your art and I think you should give serious consideration for a signed and serial numbered sticker on all guitars that come your way. You are famous man and this is how you will be remembered by serious fans.

  • @williamvzajac

    hey thanks Bill

I'd like to use that idea when Twang gets going

  • Nice Geetar

  • A Les Paul Studio doesn't have a maple cap like a standard or custom or whatever.

  • @inefficient Wrong. Most Studios have the same woods as a Standard, except for the fancy flamed or quilted piece of Maple, just a plainer cap. It differs from the fancy eye candy like Pearl headstock logo and binding. The Standard has Burstbucker pickups. The normal Studio has the same pickups as a Custom model. Since he is working with the Alpine white Sudio you can't see the cap. I have a Wine red version and its quite evident its there. Know your facts :p

  • @goredeathrot Bet typing that gave you a boner...

  • @inefficient Don't you wish ;). Sorry if you associate knowledge with erections, in that case I must have a fucking redwood for a dick :p

  • @inefficient LOL!

  • @inefficient actually,

    yes it does

  • @davey4557 what are your thoughts on it?

  • If a string is touching the bridge behind where it rests on the slot, could that effect the sustain??

  • @BigJoeGuitars

many thoughts exist on that topic

  • hey Dave... thanks again for working on my guitars a couple weeks back... they sound great!

Quick question (hopefully): what is your opinion on zero frets? Yay or nay?

  • I don't know if you watch your ads, but the Sienfeld Acura spot was so un-gooched.

  • Good vid Dave. Enjoyed it.

  • hey dave, where can i find those measurements you use for brand specific string height, and string radius?

  • Yay, another one of my guitars makes the channel! Hey Dave, thank you for making the video, I can't wait to try it out the git.

  • hi yes i am aware off that. i meant between the top off the neck at the first and second fret .there looked like a high spot on the fat E compared to the small e..maybe you right and the nut is throwing me off.

  • I've pulled so many of them out of guitars.

  • Dave what exactily is the difference between a les paul stuido and a standard, besides price that is?

  • @Bluebuthappy182

Les Paul standard was the original Les Paul. It can be an SG shape as well

Studio was introduced in the 80's I believe

  • @davey4557 not to mention the price! studio is half the price of the standard. Dosent make sense to me.

  • @davey4557 No it wasn't. There was no "Standard" model back in 1952. The first original LP was a the goldtop (before a burst finish was even thought of) with two P-90's and trapeze tailpiece. The LP only had the SG shape from 1961 to 1963. You are right about the Studio, it first appeared in 1983.

  • @Bluebuthappy182 IF I MAY.........Studio's are the same...just don't have the fancy bindings and originally came with dots instead of the fancy block or trapezoid inlays to save you money..The idea was it dosnt have to be flashy in the studio for recording..But in the recent years they have added goodies like the inlays on this one.THEY are a great guitar..Hope this helps...

  • @Bluebuthappy182 The Les Paul Standard has binding around the neck and body. The Studio does not. The standard generally has higher end humbuckers (eg. Burst buckers). The studio usually has 490R and 498T. They both sound similar but the studio is just a striped down standard. the studio body and neck tends to be multi piece where as a stand is usually solid, but have been made multi piece.

  • @Bluebuthappy182 Basically the look of the guitar. The studio is basically more stripped down than a standard: Less (no!?) binding on the body.

  • @SlaughteredDecay so the woods, pick ups etc are the same?

  • @Bluebuthappy182 Should be, yes.

  • @Bluebuthappy182 Basically the look of the guitar. The studio is basically more stripped down than a standard: Less (no!?) binding on the body.

  • @Bluebuthappy182 A Standard has a binding on the body and on the fretboard. The Standard has BurstBucker pickups whilst the Studio has 490R on the neck and 498T on the bridge. Correct me if I'm wrone. Somebody, please?

  • @Bluebuthappy182 The studios have more plain paint jobs, i.e. no bursts, and they have 490R and 498T pickups instead of the Burstbucker Pros that are in the standard. They have a studio version called mahogany or worn that have no paint on them and have the Burstbucker Pros and only cost 800 new. I have one and I think they sound better than the studios I have heard. If you want paint you could buy a reg studio and swap out the pickups.

  • @Bluebuthappy182 And actually if you're not set on a Gibson, Agile makes a LP copy called the AL-3000 that is better than Epiphones IMO and as good as most Gibsons except for the pickups. They are Korean made and run a little under 400. They have a maple cap and come in different burst paint options. Swap out the pickups and for 700 or less you have a better and cheaper LP than a Gibson IMO. They sell them at Rondo music.

  • you didnt test it dave :(

  • a maybe the red is from rocking that bit harder than the rest .he bleeds over the guitar. also you can put the hoover on you get a bit of heat out of them. a maybe you could borrow the long johns from next door

  • hi dave is they twist in the neck or is just the camera angle

  • @turnercarl I don't think so. The nut is higher on the bass side.

  • Hey Dave, 2 ?'s fer ya. 1) When you lowered the action at the nut, how? Did you file the sots a little? 2) I just want to clarify when you said you take factory string action minus 1/3 (30%) for your set ups, obviously it's working but how (if at all) does that effect your neck relief settings? Thanks in advance!

  • @andy5962

I filed the nut sots a bit

factory specs are very high but OK

this guitar was on the high side of the spec

most players want a lower action and feel.

relief adjustment is the most subjective of all settings.

the harder you strum the more relief you need

lower action at the nut just means the relief adjustment needs to be checked

  • @davey4557

Thanks again Dave, you're the best!

  • Dave, you should do a vid on how to set up a 3 saddle bridge!

  • Dave howcome there's no more demos after the repairs/setups?

  • @906030115

    getting lazy?

    I guess

  • Goochiverse.

  • hey davey whereabouts are you from in canada?

  • @fcbtim toronto i do believe

  • @psirider anyone know how i can get into contact with davey to get my guitars set-up and checked out? im from toronto as well and seeing someone actually setup a guitar is a lot more reassuring than having an actual chain store take care of it

  • a marsupial LOL!!!!!

  • you seem to live in goochland!

  • I want you to set up my guitar! If I ever get anywhere(yeah right...!), do you want to be my guitar tech? ;)

  • I have the same guitar, and mine's turning pink/red too!

  • The ad before the video started was a woman sticking the spout of a mini watering can up her nose. I already know this makes no sense so no need to send comment. Thanks for fixing my guitar davey! My toe hurts and my pink shirt is fading.

  • I'm imagining a 9 pound guitar dropping on this guy's foot...

  • i don't know about anyone else, but i'd watch a one hour setup video...

  • Thanks again..great vid...
