  • if we make a simple rectangle or a plane, i think the default is that the "face" facing you turns into a front color automatically, right!?But now im having a problem with that, when i try to make a plane , the face that's facing me always turns into a back color

i got so irritated on right clicking the face and selecting "reverse face", it takes me a lot of time,

HOW DO I GET THAT DEFAULT SETTINGS BACK?

  • @tabuelan yeah, that happens when the component axes aren't set correctly. Face-me components rotate about the component's blue axis, with the component's red-blue plane facing the camera, and the component's solid green axis pointing away from the camera. my guess is that when you go to create your components, the model axes are oriented such that the green axis is pointing toward you, which is why it ends up showing the back face when it's facing the camera.

  • fuck you! chuck will roundhouse kick ya off that stage!

  • Something everybody forgets to mention is that the Face Camera option is greyed out in the free version. Face camera is only for the PRO version.

  • @lordofwings The ability to create Face-me components is present in both Free and Pro versions of Google SketchUp.

  • @lordofwings The video didn't mention that if the Glue To option is not set to NONE then the Always Face Camera option will be grayed out. Very little but important detail.

  • is there a way of doing this if you don't have photoshop or illustrator? that would be so cool!

  • i dont understand

  • Im new to sketch up and these videos really help, thanks.

I do have one question. What is the difference between a blue face and a white face apart from color?

  • @DreamsCatcher101 the blue color is the in/back side of each face, and the white color is on the out/front side of each face. when faces are backward it can cause problems with texturing a model, especially if/when the model is exported to another 3D modeling software (e.g. 3DS Max, etc).

  • @4sketchupgo2school Thanks a lot.

  • @4sketchupgo2school How can you avoid blue faces and keep them all white?

  • @aprimic when you right click on a face in SKP, you'll see options for Reverse Faces, and Orient Faces. Reverse faces is used to flip a face from blue -> white, or from white -> blue. Orient faces can be used to right click on a face that is oriented in a particular way, (e.g. white side facing outward) and have all other faces that are connected to that one, take on the same orientation.

  • @aprimic Another option (you probably wouldn't want to do this, but..) it's possible to go to the Face Settings tab in the Styles window and set both the Front Face color and the Back Face color to white. In general, it's a good idea to create models with faces oriented properly (i.e. white faces facing outward, and blue faces facing inward), and the white/blue visual helps to keep track of all that. Setting both faces to white makes it a lot easier to end up with things being left inside-out.

  • @4sketchupgo2school Alternatively, you could just right click it and flip the face. Out of curiosity, why did it take you guys so long to reply?

  • @aprimic We unfortunately don't have the resources to respond to all of the questions and comments we get via YT. Plus, it can be rather time consuming to formulate responses w/o the use of attachments, and w/in character limitations. We try to check YT a couple times per month, but we're not always able to make our way through the entire inbox, so some questions end up being neglected for some time. Sorry for not having addressed your question sooner. Hopefully it was better late than never.
