@Oso1G your kidding right? your comparing the comfort of a goldwing to BMW? lol.... 1600GT is more like a sports/ touring bike much like your FJR1300, sti 1300 , Concours 14 .. those are all the same groups.
I wouldn't consider the 1600 a real touring bike. Although I do like the 1200GS and even that is an enduro more for on road than off road. if you want a real enduro KTM 990 is a better bang for your buck as far as off road enduro goes.
i have been rideing bikes since 16 years old! ive owned over 40 different makes in yhat time ! some of them are these ! motocross rm 125, yz250 ! kx250 ,.dt50,dt125,dt175,pe175,ts250,rd200,rd350,rd250lc,rd350lc,cb250n,cx500,xj650,xj650,Z1300,jota180,z1000,GS750,gs1000,bmwr80rt,etc,...ect,... now im older AND WISER ! i would love to have a goldwing and just cruise everwhere,
You can dislike the Goldwing as much as you like. My wife and I were travelling from Denmark to Italy for a couple of years on holiday. One year we hooked up with some "real" bikers on racingmachines and a few Harleys. After 200 km, the Harleys gave up for the day. After another 250 km the rest settled in. We drove 1200 km in one day, and made the entire trip of 1800 km in just 24 hours including a good nights sleep! Keep you bikes, I wouldn't want anything but a Wing - and the wife agrees!!!
My dad has this bike, he's short as heck but he rides it like a pro, I'm used to my dual sport, and this thing awesome to ride, kinda dangerous too if you're cruising slowly and have been riding motorbikes for a while it's such a comfy ride that you may fall asleep lol.
I personally like crotch rockets for everyday driving for myself but my wife does not like sitting on the back she feels like she will fall off so she won't ride I would like to do some touring this is the greatest bike for that at least from my stand point we went to sit on a 09 model and comfort was insane little on the heavy side but thats okay for the features and comfort for my wife and her feeling more supported deffinently something we will be getting in a few years when money is right
@omarkhant610 It's a vital concept for long distance off-season touring. First there is very little wind behind the fairing & windscreen. Incredibly so. Second, the seats heat your ass and all the blood flowing through it, keeping your core warm, reducing the effect from air temperature.
Whilst in Germany about 11 years ago I came across a British 1500 Goldwing (MPH speedo) which was going for very little money and ended up buying it to sell back in the UK.
Thought I'd hate it but it was an amazing bike. Rode it home from Germany and (after registering it) used it in the UK for a while before selling it (and buying a sports bike).
Like I said though, I was really surprised how good it was. Its handling was quite reasonable. Would love a go on the 1800 to see how it compared.
Pretty large bike. Nice options, but for the weight I'd go with a trike. Of course, you could buy a car for the money, but a completely different experience. Maybe a Can-Am Spider trike. ;)
Wing: Magnificent ride. Designed for ultimate comfort TOURING. To all the mudslingers, 1) Don't compare it to a 'canyon carver', because it isn't, never will be, and wasn't designed to be. It does, though, handle surprisingly well for a large touring bike; 2) Everyone doesn't think your bike is the perfect one, or we'd all be riding that bike. Don't disrespect others taste without expecting the same crap in return!
We bike for different reasons, and buy our bikes to suit our purposes.

The GoldWing started as an American phenomena. It's perfect for gobbling up hundreds of miles of US highways every day. It is not meant to be your sports bike where a 500km ride is your day. We've done 800+km days - with 2-up plus evening clothes for a wedding! Watch out though. That 1.8L will run up your backside with the bags emptied. Tour riding is about seeing the country, not how fast the pavement passes under you.
Laugh. Bring your little buzzy bikes to America. Visit your Aunt in Chicago, then ride to Las Vegas - only 1650 miles (2, 655km) away! That's a good 4-day bike trip. One way. Across the plains states, over the 4 km high rockies, through Utah's and Nevada deserts - seven states. Got room in that tank bag for weather changes? 38* heat to 8* cold, plus rain, fog, hail. The Honda eats those miles easily. Comfy becomes important after 700+ km days in the saddle!
Oh these things are funny i remember seeing people with them at the TT when i went for the 100th aniverysary some had sidecars and trailers I wouldn't be seen dead on one, Never seen one when ive been out on the road here in scotland would laugh my bollocks off passing one on my sv650 only old people and weirdo's ride goldwings
@gnarly79 BAHAHAHAH What a moron. It's a touring bike, not a sportbike. It's built for long distance comfort. that said, it has the power and agility to most likely eat your lunch in a street race.
@gnarly79 "It has air vents! BAHAHAHA!" So? Haven't you've seen the countless other touring bikes that have those to? It channels air from the intake through the radiator, so help keep rider warm on cold ass days. you can also close those
@AndyRoddick969 yes heated grips, heated seats, even the passenger seat has its own heat control. it also has a built in gps, reverse, cruies control. a stero loud enough to blow you ears off... i can run mine 245 miles on a full tank. a remote control to lock you bagadge comp. intercom. weather channel. i love riding mine even when its winter..( aslong as it does not snow but a few times i got cought in snowy conditions..) i do wish the winshield was motorized though
Nice video. Just incredible the amount of bullshit from people who have never even ridden an 1800. I enjoy my 1500 but after riding an 1800 the only thing stoping me from buying one is I work overseas in an area where you can't or wouldn't want to ride and then I'm holding out for the 2012 Wing.
Since most people are comparing it to a car... the GL1800 will do low 12's in the 1/4 mile. This is a bit faster than a 2008 Corvette with 436hp. I've seen 60yo pensioners pick the thing up and even with 1832cc's it still gets in the 40's for mpg (US).
Sure, it's not going to have superbike performance like a 1198R or R1, but you wouldn't want to ride either of those for a 6000mi tour of the US. Every bike has it's purpose.
@sbudno performance means nothing to me...this bike has the feeling of a dead fish...sorry..our points of wiew are far away from each other..ride safe cheers
No, The air conditioned model will come out as soon as they figure out how to roll up the windows. ;)
The knee-level vent in the front fairing provide heat from the air flowing over the radiators on both sides. There's also a manually controlled flap just below the engine valve cover on each side that acts as a foot-heater vent. You open and close it from a slide switch on the top left of the dashboard. On warmer days, you close both those and open the windshield vent.
The windshield height adjusts up or down about 6 inches, and there is plenty of knee space. Yes, I know several tall riders who love their GL1800. Most add highway pegs to stretch out on long runs, but many short drivers do the same thing.
i has a bar coming off the center and you step on it and put your body eight on it and it lifts right off the ground im 15 and i just bought one and een i cand lift it
Z***16 response.....well lill fellar....'03 GL1800 is a rocket. Twisties...thru the turns is a sport....try White Spar or road to Jerome. Get off a ya cow and try one.
@114BW Nice Car: This was the correct observation. That's right; if you're going to spend that amount of money, you might as well get a car. Honda motors also makes some nice cars. Bikes look sleek and shiny, until you drop them. Crunch-dent-scratch! And that's just the bike. My knees still hurt, after all these years. Oh, you mean that you're such a damn good biker that you're not going to have an accident? C'mon, all it takes is a patch of ice on a bend and you're off.
@klined I stopped riding motorbikes in December 1986, although I did have one last ride on my 750-four before selling all my bikes, in June 1987. My knees still hurt sometimes, due to falling off motorbikes. I have never been injured in any way whatsoever in a car. I was last involved in a car accident in 1998, when someone smashed into the back of my Ford Sierra, whilst I was stationary at a road junction. I suffered no injuries at all, and won the court case for damages to my car.
@clemstevenson IT'S NOT A CAR! this is the common criticism of goldwing. However if you've ridden one then you'd understand. It's actually WAY more nimble than what most people think.
@EpiDemic117 I rode bikes for about ten years, but never bigger than a 750. I nearly got killed on a kwacker Z650 (29-years ago; not my fault), but I pulled through. Currently driving a Honda Jazz car, coz I ain't touched a bike since the 80s. I knew someone back in the 1970s, who got killed riding an early 1000cc Honda Goldwing (he died circa 1979, as I recall).
La Reine K12 LT , a ELLE un pare-brise électrique et m^me si le bourrin n'est pas un 6 pattes une fois débridé , hummmm; il ne reste à la Gold que le mythe .
this is not a motorcycle, its a small car :), nah for touring with the misses this is perfect, but IMHO i would much rather have a sports tourer like the daytona TT or similar, i do want to ride pillion on one though, just to see what its like.
You can call it a "house" all you want. This is the most recognized touring bike in history and for a good reason. My dad has a 1200 1987 aspencade and it's beautiful and runs even better!! They are so damn smooth and, of course, dependable. If you treat a Goldwing right it will take you over 300,000 miles before you have to junk it or rebuild it.
hayabusa is not a sport bike dude...and if it was, what, in your opinion, makes it the best ? in my opinion its a worthless cow of a motorcycle, kinda like a harley
self balancing is the forces caued by the rotation of the wheels and the other components, have you seen a rider come off and the bike self right and keep going on 2 wheels?
is honda encouraging them to be unsafe? really you would need to take your helmet off to use the radio, and you couldnt focus on both changing the channel and riding at the same time. also a cup holder, again you would need to take your helmet off to drink, they need to think some things through..
open faces are very unsafe on motorcycles, and when was the last time you tried drinking with a helmet on. or have you ever had a conversation with a motorcycle helmet, its almost impossible to hear.
hi i use a standart helmet (no open face or flip helmet) and i have a normal navigation system build up to my bike and i can hear the voice clearly when i turn it loud
sorry if my english is not the best.. greetings from Germany :)
i dont think honda are stupid, and would design a £17000 motorbike and not "think some things through", the cup holder could be for hot drinks because when the rider is travelling long distances they may want a drink on hand so when they pull over for a break they dont have to find a flask in their bag. Motorcycle helmets arent soundproof either because that would be stupid, how is the radio any more dangerous on a bike than it is in a car?!? .......rant over.
Are you dense? You don't have to take off your helmet to hear a Goldwing's radio. It's loud enough to hear in a full face helmet. Not only that, but few actually need to use that since most every gold wing rider has the helmet communications built in to talk to passengers or other bikes over CB and listen to the radio.
All You Poor.. Sick.. "YOUNG" So Called Riders.. You Think Wheelies And Knee Scraping Is The Thing To Do.. No Wonder Your Insurance Cost You As Much As The Crotch Rudders You Ride.. Its A Matter Of Time.. You Will Crash.. And Burn.. Bet On It. Show-Offs Die.. Just A Matter Of Time.. Anyway The Wing Does It All.. I Thank God I Can Afford It.. Fun, Fun, Fun Without The Fuss.. Cruise It Or Run It.. Your Choice.. With An Airbag For Safety.. The Wing Simply Has It Going On..
this bike is far too slow and u idiots think it is the ultimate bike but the mv agusta f41000cc is the ultimate bike it costs 120k us and has 194bhp it owns this piece of shit
honestly it's not like riding a bus. If you know how to ride a big bike it rides just like a midsized cruiser motorcycle. Most people that are skeptical of goldwings are only so because they don't know how to ride a big bike so they assume it's sluggish and clumsy but in actuality they are just as swift and agile as a regular cruiser or sports bike. I have an old goldwing from the 80's and I hot rod that thing and zoom in and out of places like it were a sports bike. Goldwings aren't clumsy!
I have and I own a goldwing and if you know how to ride one it rides just like a sports bike.
type Deals gap on a Honda Goldwing gl1800
into youtube and you'll see what I'm talking about. Goldwings can ride just like crotch rockets /sportsbikes. I know this. The thing is most young people don't know how to ride big bikes like gwings so they thing that because it's something they can't learn how to ride in one day that they are big awkward bikes so they stick with tiny bikes
copy and paste Deals Gap on Honda Goldwing GL1800 ----- into youtube and there's amateurs riding goldwings like Hayabusa's.I own a Goldwing and it rides like any other bike once you learn how to navigate a big bike.
ok a hayabusa is made to go in a strait line ? Hayabusa are simply bigger versions of cbr and ninjas you have no idea. This guy I work with can pop wheelies and zoom around corners going 45 mph asif he where on abmx bicycle. Like I said if you don't know how to ride a really big bike then you can't understand or even began to contemplate how they can ride or perform untill you actually learn to ride one. I guarantee you with the right skilled person a700lbs gwing can out run a cbr or ninja
1800 six cylinder 118bhp 123lbft torque and 30mpg! WTF! An 1800cc diesel car has 130bhp and 200lbft torque and 60mpg!!! Put a fucking diesel in this bike Honda and stop pissing about

On warmer days, you close both those and open the windshield vent.

is it good for tall riders?
Oeszilee 2 years ago
@Oeszilee
The windshield height adjusts up or down about 6 inches, and there is plenty of knee space. Yes, I know several tall riders who love their GL1800. Most add highway pegs to stretch out on long runs, but many short drivers do the same thing.

NICE CAR.
114BW 2 years ago 120
@114BW Nice Car: This was the correct observation. That's right; if you're going to spend that amount of money, you might as well get a car. Honda motors also makes some nice cars. Bikes look sleek and shiny, until you drop them. Crunch-dent-scratch! And that's just the bike. My knees still hurt, after all these years. Oh, you mean that you're such a damn good biker that you're not going to have an accident? C'mon, all it takes is a patch of ice on a bend and you're off.
clemstevenson 1 year ago
@clemstevenson
cars get dented and scratched, too. As do drivers.
klined 1 year ago
@klined I stopped riding motorbikes in December 1986, although I did have one last ride on my 750-four before selling all my bikes, in June 1987. My knees still hurt sometimes, due to falling off motorbikes. I have never been injured in any way whatsoever in a car. I was last involved in a car accident in 1998, when someone smashed into the back of my Ford Sierra, whilst I was stationary at a road junction. I suffered no injuries at all, and won the court case for damages to my car.
clemstevenson 1 year ago
@clemstevenson IT'S NOT A CAR! this is the common criticism of goldwing. However if you've ridden one then you'd understand. It's actually WAY more nimble than what most people think.
EpiDemic117 1 year ago
@EpiDemic117 I rode bikes for about ten years, but never bigger than a 750. I nearly got killed on a kwacker Z650 (29-years ago; not my fault), but I pulled through. Currently driving a Honda Jazz car, coz I ain't touched a bike since the 80s. I knew someone back in the 1970s, who got killed riding an early 1000cc Honda Goldwing (he died circa 1979, as I recall).

You can call it a "house" all you want. This is the most recognized touring bike in history and for a good reason. My dad has a 1200 1987 aspencade and it's beautiful and runs even better!! They are so damn smooth and, of course, dependable. If you treat a Goldwing right it will take you over 300,000 miles before you have to junk it or rebuild it.

self balancing is the forces caued by the rotation of the wheels and the other components, have you seen a rider come off and the bike self right and keep going on 2 wheels?

boomerhgt 2 years ago 4
is honda encouraging them to be unsafe? really you would need to take your helmet off to use the radio, and you couldnt focus on both changing the channel and riding at the same time. also a cup holder, again you would need to take your helmet off to drink, they need to think some things through..
itsianhere 2 years ago
Did you ever hear of an open face or flip helmet, and you dont have to take your helmet off to use the radio!!!
Kevman675 2 years ago
open faces are very unsafe on motorcycles, and when was the last time you tried drinking with a helmet on. or have you ever had a conversation with a motorcycle helmet, its almost impossible to hear.
itsianhere 2 years ago
hi i use a standart helmet (no open face or flip helmet) and i have a normal navigation system build up to my bike and i can hear the voice clearly when i turn it loud
sorry if my english is not the best.. greetings from Germany :)
Jayron2k7 2 years ago
That's when the flip-up comes in handy. Almost as safe as a full-face, but all the benefits of a open-face.
subocito 2 years ago
i dont think honda are stupid, and would design a £17000 motorbike and not "think some things through", the cup holder could be for hot drinks because when the rider is travelling long distances they may want a drink on hand so when they pull over for a break they dont have to find a flask in their bag. Motorcycle helmets arent soundproof either because that would be stupid, how is the radio any more dangerous on a bike than it is in a car?!? .......rant over.
PAST1Ebuoy 2 years ago
Are you dense? You don't have to take off your helmet to hear a Goldwing's radio. It's loud enough to hear in a full face helmet. Not only that, but few actually need to use that since most every gold wing rider has the helmet communications built in to talk to passengers or other bikes over CB and listen to the radio.

Wow, talk about distractions, so many buttons to play with.

lol the sporty bus comment was a joke and yes if you know how to ride a car sized bike im sure you can handle it
but to say it andles like a sports bike is just plain ridiculous.
The bike doesnt have the geometry to handle like asports bike, they weigh over a quater of a ton
try and make that thing go round a bend as quick, or even nearly as quick as say, a Honda CBR600. Its just not gonna happen

Its like riding a really sporty bus
jimmieteemm 2 years ago
honestly it's not like riding a bus. Goldwings aren't clumsy!
jason23296 2 years ago
but on that note, i see you stated " they (goldwings) are just as swift and agile as a regular cruiser or sports bike"
apparently you've never ridin a sport bike, that's like comparing jupiter to pluto
R6demon08 2 years ago
I have and I own a goldwing and if you know how to ride one it rides just like a sports bike.
type Deals gap on a Honda Goldwing gl1800
into youtube and you'll see what I'm talking about. Goldwings can ride just like crotch rockets /sportsbikes. I know this. The thing is most young people don't know how to ride big bikes like gwings so they thing that because it's something they can't learn how to ride in one day that they are big awkward bikes so they stick with tiny bikes
jason23296 2 years ago
copy and paste Deals Gap on Honda Goldwing GL1800 ----- into youtube and there's amateurs riding goldwings like Hayabusa's.I own a Goldwing and it rides like any other bike once you learn how to navigate a big bike.
jason23296 2 years ago
bro you obviously have no clue as to how nimble a 600 -1000cc sport bike is.
the reason i know is the fact that you'd pick a busa to compare.
a hayabusa is like the goldwing of sport bikes.
meant to go in a straight line. although yes you can take even a goldwing to the deals gap and be alright.
R6demon08 2 years ago
ok a hayabusa is made to go in a strait line ? Hayabusa are simply bigger versions of cbr and ninjas you have no idea. This guy I work with can pop wheelies and zoom around corners going 45 mph asif he where on abmx bicycle. Like I said if you don't know how to ride a really big bike then you can't understand or even began to contemplate how they can ride or perform untill you actually learn to ride one. I guarantee you with the right skilled person a700lbs gwing can out run a cbr or ninja
jason23296 2 years ago
BBBAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH AHHAHAHAHAH
are you crazy or something? lets talk power to weight ratio here.
the goldwing doesn't even come close! couldn't even touch an R6/GSXR/CBR/Ninja or a busa twisty's or straights. and
