  • Well, these shots were made exactly 23 years ago. the whole aviation changed ...

  • I was working there that day! Cool video.

  • wowww, filmed almost exactly a year before my birth xD

  • pan am!!!

  • All Classic This Video

  • were the pilots way better back then? because every single landing was really smooth!

  • i worked for Flying Tigers, (in their training group) in Los Angeles and seeing our old bird was great.... Wonderful view... thanks Jon

  • Wow. The smog was worse back then.

  • This is awesome compared to all the boring cookie cutter crap that flies today!!!

  • Look at that glorious DC-8 kiss the runway around 10:35 into the video, just beautiful.

    And the L-1011, another gem.

  • I enjoyed watching these beauties LTU Tristar 500, Condor DC-10 & TWA 747- 100. That was flying real heavy metal.

  • LOL AA is exactly the same today.

  • Quagmire would definitely get a boner of this! Brilliant video!

  • Wow! 2:35 - the B747-200 Malaysian Airlines on the background :D

  • This is a brilliant video of the classics! well done for posting.

  • the LTU tristar is possibly the best lookin plane ive seen on the net.. great video :)

  • @kirkhead94 That so true.. Rare to find that bird nowadays..

  • VHS pictures, good conservation

  • Great great great vid.

  • RIP LTU

  • At around that time, I considered becoming an airline pilot (but my interest in planes was only a general one at best). Later in the same month you shot this, I entered the Royal Canadian Air Cadets. But the following year, my career aspirations changed once again.

  • That might be the 1st time ive seen a Pan Am A310 in ANY VIDEO.. and the rest of this is just classic aviation at its finest. Thank you for posting!

  • @FSGuy777 That's an A300B4-203.

  • Fantastic footage, great nostalgia. Thank you for sharing :)

  • Beautiful video as always, Ryan. So many jetliners in retro schemes. :D LAX was such a wonderful place to be back in the late 80s / early 90s. Haha.

  • Talk about rare-the A300 AA at LAX. Very few pictures/videos of that. As always well done.

  • I talked to the guy who shot this video, I recognized his voice from the first minute. I bought a VHS video from him on the DC-8 back in 1990/91. I think his favorite DC-8 was the -61.

That video and one produced by Paul Havis a pilot for People's Express were two of my favorites of all time.

  • @Springbok295, yeah, that's Craig Pilkington. He's a DC-8 nut, his favorite is the 50 series but he loves them all! He had three tapes, "Plane Spotters", "The Mighty DC-8" & "The Legendary 707" which were all put out through his company called Aviation Media. I just had dinner with him, when he gets home I'll be sure to pass this along to him. You'll see some of the footage from those tapes and pieces from pretty much every video that he's shot, which is 300+.

  • @RyanBomar

Yeah ok now the name rings a bell. Yeah I bought all three tapes back in the day. Long before the Internet and living in Tallahassee Florida where there was little to no action tapes like his kept me connected to the real world of commercial aviation. Great stuff.

  • lots of old classic beauties. and some of these airlines does'nt exist anymore. very happy to have discovered this video.

  • Great posting,lots of memories.

  • Wow Ryan, this has to be one of your best ones yet:)

  • some of these planes just dont look to safe haha

  • Excellent! Thanks for sharing!

  • This is AWESOME.I love seeing the old logos on the jets.HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!! ROCK ON!!!!!

  • Those were the days, the good old days. Today is exactly 20 years after the demise of the World's most experienced airline, and 10 years after TWA's. Sigh.

  • @StargateTravel, that was going through my mind as I put this together. LAX is a whole different airport without them!

  • @RyanBomar And now Continental is officially gone since the United & Continental operating certificates have been merged. Strange seeing United flights from here to Houston & Newark now.

  • @StargateTravel What airlines?

  • @iAirsoft69 What do you mean by "What airlines" ?

  • @StargateTravel I meant what airline went out of buisness, but i take it it was pan am?

  • @iAirsoft69 Yep, that's it.

  • Great video! I specially liked seeing the 747s, DC-10 and L-1011.

  • Gotta love the DC-10.
