Wonderful piece. So which side of the canson do you prefer? 'orange peel' or the smooth? I prefer the smooth. I tend to work mostly on canson as well, along with the sanded papers like Wallis or colorfix.
I've seen a lot of clouds, and reflections, as a 56-yr old artist, but yours tops all the others, I've so enjoyed the tutorial videos, and am going to study everything you do-enjoyed the music, too...
@cybrid1940 i Zizi, sorry for delay , you know pastel brands do vary but i put mine on so hard i really let go . they just break up so easy .... But im a passionate painter and most of my painting only last 30 - 50 minutes.... Pastels are scattered all over the studio as i paint very quickly
Brilliant work Les. Pastel seems like the perfect medium for clouds. I can't wait to try doing some of my own. I've done a couple, but this sheds a wonderful light on my learning process. Thank you for sharing this!
@darrenk1975 thanks for your comments. I basically have a Frames, mount and glass waiting to just drop it in, The only other way is to fix using fixatives from art shops. £8.00 a tin. or use hairspray but a cheap one, finer spray and less oil. fix as you go through painting. The problem with fixing is that it changes the colour dramtically so you have to allow for it in your original compostition. I find that too hard to paint using different contrasts.
@darrenk1975 If you do use spray for protection, with hairspray, if you are just fiddling around and don't care about the quality of the work, then go ahead and use hairspray. As for serious work, hairspray is NOT reccommended for it is a pretty good chance of what it can do to the paper and such over time. Especially, if you are doing commissions or selling work, REFRAIN FROM THE HAIRSPRAY. Art fixitive itself, I've used a couple an they dull down my pastel works.
BEAUTIFUL! Could you maybe do a tutorial? Keep up the great work!

Hi Les,
If you don't use a fixative, do you leave a 'dust-pocket'; a shallow void, behind the mount, to catch falling pastel over the years.
Lovely work, and reflections are perfect. I have a bit far to go to get to the sea though! Never mind... I'll stick to trees and meadows!
Cheers.
