If they'd kept him face that angle woulda worked. Instead, the WWE got too caught up in turning all their top faces heel for dramatic effect. Along with the rest of DX, he got turned heel WAY too soon and it killed their careers, except Hunters (shocker).

He was a ten time World Tag Team Champion, won a one time Intercontinental Champion, two time Hardcore Champion and he even won the King of the Ring. The reason why he could make it big as a singles wrestler was because of his mic skills and because of being the Ass Man.
