Nah I'm pretty sure 45 is fine. Clapton does do a walkdown on 10th fret with a hammer on the 12th. That's exactly what smitestyle did... Listen to the cream recording approx 2:41-2:43 and you'll hear the walkdown in the solo.

heres a trick ( i use ) for learning this and many other solos :

first , find someone just playing the solo on youtube (like this vid)

then listen to it over and over again , until you know the entire solo in your head .

find a tab on the internet

then start learning the solo note by note

And in the end , play guitar with the track, to get the feel and flow into it ! ;)

thats my trick , i hope you will give it a try ? ;)

I'm about 80% finished learning this solo the way Clapton plays it, and your solo is note for note, finger for finger dead on. Congrats for paying attention to the detail! If you have a Pod by Line 6, check out a tone called "Disraeli Gears" - it simulates Claptons tone on this song to a "t"! (Very grungy, ripped speaker tone) Cheers!
