Get Rock Band 1 and 2, then export the RB1 songs into RB2, sell the RB1 disc, and then you can play both games in Rock Band 2.

Are you concerned about cost more than quality? If so, then get the Rock Band 1 complete kit; it's like dirt cheap now and they'll work for all the games.

Practically though, the peripherals aren't really that much different besides the RB2 drums being wireless. I take it you're not an enthusiast player, so either way you'll still get an enjoyable experience.

Just look at the song lists for GH5 and RB2 and pick the one you like better. Just make sure that if you aren't going to play with friends and prefer the RB song list just get the software pack and buy the controller separately, instead of wasting money on the whole band kit.
