Actually, I think it looked like the storm we had in Perth a couple of weeks after... thankfully the huge hail here was pretty localised ( unfortunatley I was in one of those localities) It's great conversation fodder. In both storms though, I noticed that some places got the ridiculous winds and others didn't.... strange.
@munyman07 are you sure because this storm caused like 700 million $ in damages where as the perth storm was 400 million $ damages and this isnt the worse of the storm other areas were way harder hit that this
i was on the Monash Freeway (South Eastern Arterial) during this storm heading from Cranbourne to Werribee, i passed no less than 8 cars on that stretch that lost windscreens, and those are jsut the ones i was game enough to take my eyes off the road for more than 5 seconds to look at.
that would never be enough, Melbourne's water supply is dropping way to rapidly to be sustained merely by recycling and conservation. do you remember Lake Eppalock.. i remember boating and skiing on that lake.. seen it lately.. no, because its gone, i know its not Melbourne's supply but its a great example of how drastic this drought is. our population in Melbourne is growing to fast for any amount of conservation.. we need alternatives.
The Sydney hailstorm of about 1997 was even worse, it smashed the house roof tiles and car windscreens of the entire path of the storm while it was on land. The sound as the storm approached, of tonnes of hail hitting thousands of rooves, was amazing. Took ages to for the suburbs to recover. Not to be disparaging to this storm which was pretty intense and en expensive experience for everyone under it!
Nothing wrong with our drainage system mate, I'd like to see your cities try to uphold the severity of that storm! Got no idea what it was like unless u lived thru it so don't judge it!
Large weather event that reached Melbourne, the bottom of Australia, after crossing land at the top of the country. The low pressure system brought drought breaking rain to two states. As for the drainage, it's not designed for storms that drop almost an entire years average rainfall in about 15 minutes.
How bad was it... my outdoor area is wrecked, my cars have over $6,000 damage. All in the space of 2min in the hail. My roof felt like it was going to tear away! Were in Boronia where is this?
I was fucking fishing one day and i was hit by a Hail in me fucken head i dropped me bong and me smokes and beer and i went fucking yelling GOD why MEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
@blissfullness93 wow - it happened in your city! Awesome! Lol I'm getting all over-excited. I live in California and hail here is pretty rare. :( I love hail! Even though it's dangerous
That is a mean storm, it hailed like that in the colorado-Oklahoma area last July 2009, freak hail, man oh man .. but that was a lot of extra rain.. I take it that isn't common, what is your march weather?
@hurchel Aussie summer ended on the first of march. Melbourne weather is pretty unusual normally, but usually its been hot this time of year and very short of rain...
Bastards! What is the rule about that!?! Is it that if you put it on Youtube, it's public domain? I highly doubt it. Did they credit you anywhere? Or Youtube even!?!
Bloody hell!! That's got to be depressing looking at your car get smashed. You can see the car alarm go off in the 4wd over the road, but can't even hear it!! I remember storms like this in queensland. In perth now... storms are so boring over here!!!!
meh we get worse than this in Brisbane all the time. i guess people in Melbourne getting this for the 1st time they remember made it seem special to them.
no, its not a case of that, Victoria is not a 2nd rate state with 2nd rate people, like Queensland, and they have enough commonsense to get their video cams out and film things.
haha i was testing you with that comment, you really are a lame troll. btw we do film things here but why film something as common as a hail storm... everyone here knows what it looks like. would you get out your camera every time it rains? because that's how common it is here. you need to chill out and stop being so defensive. if you can't handle a little heat and humidity you don't have to pay out on the people tough enough to live up here. poor baby :P
the joke is on you. you obviously think i live in victoria, I dont. as I said before, queensland is a second rate state, with second rate people, second rate education system. its a usa wannabe.
if queensland is so good, why are people prepared to pay high prices in shops, higher rents, higher land prices, higher state taxes to live in vic or nsw, rather than queensland.

Awesome!
Had similar weather in Burbank, CA in January...
... but I gotta ask, how did a river form in such a short amount of time?
It rained similarly, 3 or 4 times a day, for 5 days in a row, and the flooding never got that bad here...
My rain gauge measured exactly 13.74 inches/ 34.9 cms of rain in a 6 day period... but no major flooding in Burbank.
How much rain did you guys get?!
weatherman001 2 years ago
we got the averages rain of 3 months just in one day, our rain gauge measured about 12, just in one day. it was so scary, hail was huge! x
blaiirexo 2 years ago
ok i dont get it weres all this water coming from!? all of that was the storm?? wtf is wrong with the drainage system there???
shadowace421 2 years ago
Seriously, even is damn southern california, where it never rains, it didn't flood after over a foot/ 30 cm of rain...

Siegetower 2 years ago
Yeah, we usually don't get more than 15 inches/ 38 cm or rain a year...
... to get 13.74in in a week's span is crazy...
But I think u guys still beat us in weather "crazyness"...
... we only got 2 hail storms, and the biggest hail we saw was just under golf ball sized...
... your rain gauge measured 12 what? Centimeters or Inches?
... because 12 inches of rain would be some sort of record!!
... cheers =D
