Hey joemfk1 sounds awsome. be very interested to see how much weight you peeled off. Howd you find the kendas. I went down to 2.1 front and 1.95 rear to cut down on the drag.
did the upgrades set you back a bit?? .Mine hasnt missed a beat. Very happy for sure. Great stuff.
@simmorella got it at 31lbs(14kg) and thats with the gopro and jet 13.2volt hid light and battery. still running the 2.4s at about 30psi or just over 1 1/2 bars(the trails here are compact snow and ice). other than the obvious drag, they go good. good climbers and dig in nice on the way down. the upgrade didnt set me back but some new shift cables and full length housing. haha! stripped my specialized hardrock pro i built last year. gonna miss that hardtail!(maybe). the reign is a nice ride!!
bought a reign 2 last week. changed out the shimano breaks for bb7's w/a 203mm disc up front and 185mm rear. dropped all the sram, put on shimano xt components w/a xt crank and chris king bottom bracket and headset, easton carbon ec 70 xc bars and a command seat post. it was sweet to start with but now i got the whole candy store! havent weighed in yet but will soon. its light enough to pick up one handed all day, flies thru the air like a bird and lands beautifully. this ones a keeper!!!
ive never weighed it but it must be around 13kg. Does anyone else know. It varies with tyre types and sizes too i guess and the original kendas are pretty beefy. (but they make it handle awsome) cheers
@deafwish the crank set and great set are the number one part of almost all bikes' and I'm doubting it was a 2011 since bike companies changed the way they sold stuff world wide. You can no longer discount the same year bike.
Sweet looking bike mate. I am getting my first mtb soon and I can get a good price on this bike atm. I am very tempted to buy one, but I think a hardtail might suit the ridding I will do more. Who knows maybe I might progess more to a reign after awhile.
A 2011 Reign 1 for $1580? Yeah right... Must be good crack where deafwish comes from...
Sizing is funny with the Reigns - I got the last 'XL' 2011 Reign 1 in the country and it's a 20". I believe the 'Large' is 18", which is medium in most other bikes... I'm 6ft 8" so size wasn't an option but a necessity. LOVE my Reign! Giant build and specs is excellent value for money. Thanks for the video mate, happy riding.
I bought my giant Reing 2 a year ago. I use it for field trips with some downhill and xc. the truth is that the performance of the bike is great. the kenda Navégalo wheels just turn out to be a little large and heavy for the use that I give. To the bike I´ve only changed the brake discs, front one was changed to a 210mm and a 185mm was mounted back; now 100% has been improved braking power.
Hi Yezeeer thats exellent. When i got my bike from the shop it just had basic test pedals. Nothing flash but just good enough to try the bike. I would recommend getting shimano m520 spd "s or similar. If you havnt ridden clipped in you will try it and never go back to platform pedals. i dont know how i ever rode without them. its great being attached to the bike. its way safer. How long until you get your bike. Please let us all know how it goes. Keep in touch. thankyou for posting
Hi deafwish i paid $2200 aus for mine although you may find one slightly cheaper than that now. I still feel like i need the seat up a bit higher for general xc riding. It just seems that i cant get full leg extension. I would probably go a large next time remembering with the seat post angle configuration the higher you put the seatpost up the further back it goes. Still a grat bike to ride but . I would say try a large just in case. THANKYOU.
Great review on a bike I'm seriously contemplating buying! I'm also almost 6 foot and unsure on what frame size to buy? I have a 2009 Giant Talon in 18" and it's spot on. May I ask what you paid for your Reign 2 in AU$? I got offered a 2011 Reign 1 today for AUD$1580 (Boxing Day Sale) but can't really see the value compared to the Reign 2... All I can pick is different wheels, gearset and crank!?
@deafwish - bud, where did you get a quote on the reign 1 for $1500?.. specs wise this is a better bike than the 2?.. I've shopped around a bit and $2199 seems to the RRP for the 2's.. $2K flat is the lowest I've seen around Sydney..
Im trying some narrower tyres. (2 inch maxxis) and the bike flies along with less drag but the handling is way way down compared to the kendas. It is crazy fun on rough downhill. Accelerates awsome. When you get air you just sit back a bit and enjoy the ride with a soft landing. Shocks make this bike so comfortable. My rear disc is dragging in one place. Thankyou very much for your comment . Feel free to ask a question any time. Defintly try a large and When you Test it fly down a big hill
Gday 12samjam ive had the bike a couple of months now and in some ways i wish i had at least tried a large. Im around six foot and i often have the seat up pretty high. this is a medium. I am adapting from an old 23 inch hybrid. I love the shocks. They allow me to ride in a way i never would of dreamed of. The rear shock seems to use a lot of travel and pedal bobs on mine but i just need to put more air in.. I find the brakes great compared to what im used to. Will finish in next comment
Hi mizaziel i bet u cant wait. I was the same. had to wait a week from the first test ride. You will be amazed at how the bumps and jarring will be no more. It would be great to hear your opinion after you test it. if possible. Will watch here and be keeping a good eye on your channel`
Hey mizaziel thats exellent . my first any suspension bike. did you test the small frame first because they can feel a little small at first. You'll love the 6 inches of suspension travel and be amazed at what you will ride over. it really accelerates down a hill. where i used to go down hills at jogging pace i now do 50 km/h down.
@simmorella yes I did, I sat on a mediun fram from a 2009 reign x0 and it was kind of big for me, and then i tried an extra small frame of 2009 reign x2 and it kind of match me. I'm 5''7' and i'm hopping there is not much difference bewteen the reign x frame and the reign. oh and it's being a while since i rode a bike, 5 years to be more precise, so i'm really exited =D

Sweet! I'm getting mine on this Friday. It will be my first double suspension bike, so, I really don't know what to expect from it. Oh, I ordered the small size frame. I love the combination of red and white paint on the frame =D
