  • this song is so great... kind of a weak music video in comparison :-/

  • Anyone else notice the shout-out to the Beatles with Darrel using the Hofner violin bass and Alan playing the Rickenbacker guitar?

  • This has to be one of my favorite songs they have done.

  • Wish they came to Toronto, Ontario. I love GBS.

  • They've never played here in Brasil, unfortunatelly. They're simple amazing with those folk songs.

    Great Big Sea forever!

  • I <3 Bob.

  • I'm so excited to finally see GBS this month. Sean has an amazing voice. I love this song. It's like the soundtrack to my life. Sometimes that's what you have to do when you're faced with unpleasant people or situations. Leave them behind you in the rearview mirror on your way to something better. And don't look back.

  • @alessandrosgirl Saw my 4th show 3 nights ago. You are so in for a treat! Let me know if they say anything about pineapples, k? lol

  • To the "gay" comments... I think it is so sad that our modern society has become SO sex-obsessed that camaraderie, affection, and fellowship cannot be expressed between men without onlookers thinking that there must be some sexual component to it.

    Friendship simply "is".

This is a very artistic and beautiful music video.

  • Luv it! Awesome song!

  • and it was filmed in Toronto

  • This is one of the most beautiful songs ever written and sung. I love their live version of it as well.

  • Agreed! I prefer the live version myself.

  • Torry Belleci is such a great singer.

  • LOL! :) So that's where he was before Mythbusters!

  • That's Sean McCaan T.T

  • LOL I know...I was joking. I think Chilledhouse was too. :)

  • lol I know xD

    Or was I? :O

    No lol xD

  • nobody seems to get it. I do!! LOL!

  • Here's a video I haven't seen in a really long time. Thanks for posting this! :D

  • so emotional. you can tell they really feel the music. i mean they really feel it.

  • Fave song by great big sea.

Allen Doyle is all good, but this lad here is way better.

  • Sean McCann The Shanty Man...love GBS!

  • I love this song :)

  • Great Big Sea keeps getting better and better. I love the video and recognize the location. I do like their tradtional stuff, but I like their modern spin, too.

  • Love the video and the song and the band...

  • I like his voice better then the other lead singer

  • It would be fine if they were. Nothing wrong with being gay.

But the band members love and respect each other, which is why they have this great energy we like so much, and it comes through in their performances. There is a lot of affection in this band, and that's fine. We're just not used to seeing men express their affection for each other.

  • I loved it when Sarah Harmmer sang with Sean.

    Captain wedderburn..My fav.version

  • I love this song more the more I hear it. The video's meh but plus 100 points for ALAN WITH A RICKENBACKER!! I guess it might have been hard trying to think up something for such a slow song since they're usually jumping, smiling and trying to steal each others' camera time :P

  • What's the song where it's a girl telling a riddle to a man? One line is like which bird sings first and which sings best?

  • captain wedderburn

  • This Video was shot at King and Bay st in Toronto

  • I miss the old GBS. I personally don't really like their pop influenced songs. Da b'ys can stamp the floorboards and carry on with a fire in the kitchen like few other modern Newfoundland bands, but they're pretty boring as a pop band.

Gimme more "What Are Ya At?"!

  • Wow! This is a very inspirational song! GBS does a lot of songs like this, as well as Canadian traditional songs, songs about the Newfie shipping trade and songs that just make you feel good. These lads are fantastic!

  • Songs about the Newfie shipping trade? Their first two albums had Newfoundland folk songs about several things - and note that I said Newfoundland folk, not Canadian traditional songs. That music was being played on The Rock centuries before it joined the Dominion.

  • I THINK Newfoundland is a part of the Dominion, unless they tried to do Quebecois thing nd seceded fron the Dominion without me noticing. Last I checked, Canada is still one big mass on my map. NewFoundland is a Canadian province and some GBS songs happen to b Canadian traditional shipping and whaling songs! "Folk" IS "traditional"."Traditional" meaning "old". But I am not here to argue with you. My point is that GBS is great band!!!!! And I don't think TampaRed is able to dispute me.

  • You've missed my point. Regardless, GBS indeed had some stellar stuff earlier on.

  • i used to live in nefound land but my parents said we had to move and now i only get to see my fam only like 1 every 2 years:(

  • yea im a newfie too man, we moved when i was not even 1. Ive never met my family up in newfoundland since we r always busy .

  • This song is awesome, and it's good to know that there not just big in Newfoundland, but other people poepl around the world are listen to there music too.

    ROCK ON NEWFOUNDLAND!!!

  • this song is great! It sure is nice to see people from all over likeing this music, im in new-brunswick canada where this style is the best around! love this song, and video! but it ties with donkey riding!! :p lol

  • what is the tie to donkey riding?

  • i just meant that i like donket riding and feel it turn equaly

  • I just don't get why he's hugging himself in the chorus... They're one of the greatest bands out there, but I don't think they were made for videos.

  • videos are silly in general. They're greatly affected by the industry's need to produce a mainstream theme in videos. Plus, I doubt much money is put into these things. Bjork is the only artist whose videos reflect the true meaning of her songs. Everybody is affected in a different way by each song..... sorry for the badgering, but i guess its just my opinion about music videos in general... I guess in short, I agree with you haha

  • y'know i knew what the song was about and thought it was a good song but the full emotion of the song never hit me till i saw the actual video, now i love this song!

  • THere are such a great band and I love this song.

  • its nice to see a video where Doyle takes the back seat and Sen gets to sing. theyv all got such wonderul voices which is why this is the best cnadadien band out there (tied with the barenaked ladies)

  • GBS rock

  • this is between my 5 favorit GBS songs, along with ordinary day, consquence free, fast as i can, and when i'm a king

  • Love this band, looking forward to seeing them at Lochness in the highlands of Scotland later in August.

    Top Canadian band....10/10..for GBS

  • wow i never knew this band's fans was that far spread

    (va)

and now im proud of my canadian heritage

  • great big sea.... yeah i'm starting to like this style of music

  • This is my all-time favorite GBS video, and one of my favorite songs. Thanks for uploading, love the b'ys!

  • Being Canadian living in Australia, there is always one band that can remind me of the greatness of the maratimes.

  • er..you mean the atlantic right

  • Greetings from Scotland. Great band, great song and top video. Also, good ambassadors for Canada. Rock on.

  • Love this band - this song reminds me that I am a expat Canadian washed up on these foreign shores. Cheers from South Africa.

  • I agree.

  • Awesome band, Awesome song and Awesome video
