I wish the Syfy Channel would just air some reruns. I mean... has anyone watched that dreadful network recently? I think MST3K is a safer bet than........ wait for it......
@dtwhitney Middle of nowhere? Dude, there are 3 million people in the Twin Cities, where the show was filmed and broadcast on KTMA. It's the 16th largest Metropolitan area in the US.
@OzzieOlin Well, you know what I mean. Just thinking about the overall population density of the midwest next to the coasts. It was a little unusual for something in MN to get on Comedy Central.
Kevin's voice is so sophisticated...can't help but imagine Tom Servo giving one of his speeches though..."I was the son of a young phillipeno merchant."
Those sets may have been cheap, but they were wonderful! You don't need high-tech special effects to make an entertaining program. It's the writing that matters most.
@trapadoored: Well, I guess since Joel was the creator of the bots, he was like a father therefore the family friendly theme of the show. When Mike came along he was more like a friend to the bots and then the mike era was more like a adult show, since Joel wasn't there to get on the bots about their not family friendly jokes lol! :D
-I will say though that the Joel era had a lot more weird obscure pop culture references in it that kids would never understand. But the Mike era had the raunchier jokes-for a good comparison, look at the episode "Horrors of Spider Island" -imagine how much differently Joel would have been doing that movie.
I never get tired of MST reruns, and I dun think the rest of the world ever will ether. I know my kids (if I ever have any) and grandkids will be watching MST3k, and I'll be watching it with them. It's like the one show my entire family can all agree is awesome. lol
Mike is definately one of the funniest writers on MST3K, for I thuroughly enjoyed him more than I did with Joel. I think I take to his enthusiasm better, and his facial expressions. :)
For anyone who's wondering, this interview was a bonus feature for the MST3K Collection, Vol. 5, on the Merlin's Shop of Mystical Wonders disc. This volume was released in early 2004, so I'm assuming that's when the interview was filmed.
I'd think a Christian network would be delighted to have MST3K. It's good, clean, hilarious fun...although I may be the only Christian who thinks that.
You're not the only one. I'm christian as well and my dad is the most devout christian known to man and he adores MST just like I do. We think everyone involved with that show are geniuses.
Dirty jokes are pretty much a cheap laugh. It's much harder to be hilarious without having to rely on that.

They proved to me that the Midwest can be the place to be for show business. Best show of all time was made in the middle of nowhere. Very heroic.

Errr, MST3K had a LOT of dirty jokes. And a lot of them weren't even subtle...
I mean... Outlaw of Gor??? Man that was probably the dirtiest episode they did and that won them the Peabody Award.
The fact that religious types enjoy the show too is cool, but clean? Uh. Not really. In fact, most sitcoms are probably cleaner (if 1000x less funny)

It's hilarious without having to be trashy. Most importantly it's creative and innovative. :-)

What is it with Christians and this obsession with 'clean humor'?
Must be the sexual repression.
Dirty humor might get an easier laugh, but if nothing but clean humor existed I'd blow my brains out.

Hideous drapes date it, but Mike has an Office Space reference at the start, I'd guess early 00's.
Interesting background info.
