  • Nice to see :-) At South Pole Station one of these provides heating and electricity for the station, however, there it puts out 750kW only.

  • We (Halliburton Energy Services) squeeze about 2000 hp out of these. Running at 2000 rpm for about 5-6 hours, sometimes longer. In my opinion they are not up to the task, lost one today that shot all the oil out the crank breather. Just too much abuse, to much vibration, running the engine at its limits, for hours on end. Maintenance is difficult as well, as these engines rarely see the inside of our shop.

  • purrs like a kitten...

  • what its engine power 1800 Kw?

  • 1134 Kw.....

  • @caterpillar3512 not 1512/1,36 = 1111 kW?

  • I build these at teh lafayette plant in indiana.. :) they are alot of fun to build.

  • Ahhh the 650 RPM clack-shuffle. Gotta love those Kitties purrin'....

  • oh the sweet sweet sound of the engines

  • its hell though... the engine room that is

  • what are those 3512b engines driving

  • These engine's are running in an inlandvessel in Europe. Engines are build in 1999 and more than 44000 running hours.

  • What is the sound before the first engine starts? It sounds like a hydraulic pump.

  • It's a oilpressure-pump wich pumps the oil thru the caterpillar before we start it. it's an automatic system. So the engine becomes oilpressure before starting.

Cold start for an engine is the most "damaging" part.

  • @caterpillar3512 becomes -> receives ;)

  • nice engines they run really smooth

  • how hot does it get in that room when its been running for a while

  • about 60*Celsius

  • same for my uncle, who works on the F/B Ionio Pelagos...by the way hello again, and greetings from chicago! i just returned from greece a week ago, and am extremly angry that i didnt record my uncle on the job in the engine room of the ferry with his 4 friends; two V16 3616 CAT's, and two I4 Isuzu generators. I swear those CAT's are like 5 meters long each!!! it was great the one trip i made with my family on that boat i got to spend the 4-hour ride with my uncle watching a silent CNN on a TV!!

  • sorry if you get annoyed with the comment that I made on the other vid. I asked when the engine was built but you just answered that. I am just 12 and I am CAT Engine crazy. I would love to see much more vids.:)

  • It's really got a snort to it!!!

  • These engine's are running in an inlandvessel in Europe. Engines are build in 1999 and more than 42000 running hours. I really love the sound of this engines.

  • 42000! no way!

  • They really do..... When you come to Holland, you can visit me and i will show you :-)

  • Please look in my profile and run the "evidence" vid. :) Ciao!

  • Yes, 42 000 is not bad... In my fathers fishing vessle we had two Isuzu generator, each at 280 hk. Those engines had 92 000 runnig hours, and did NEVER failed. Never ever a breakdown... The enignes were 18 years old, and had worked with "overload" for 15 years. We replaced them with two Scania DC 9 @ 350 hk, because if one of the Isuzu's should break in the winter, we wouldn't have enought freezing capacity.

Going to start up our brand new Cat mainenigne in two days, and i'm very happy =D
