Nah it wont ruin them. It just makes the subs think they are in a little bit bigger box when the sub is backwards and polarity reversed, because the magnets aren't taking up space inside the box. Can be for looks too but i prefer looking at the front

haha no, unfortunately the warranty had expired. The "rod" that pushes and pulls the cone ripped off the back of the cone. haha, i was listening to beats for my van then the bass just like stopped. My other type r was goin but with the dual 12 box it was hardly making a sound. The busted type R now sits in my room for decoration. I had never seen or heard of that happening either.

ouch man maybe your box wasn't proper. I hear a lot of people make the boxes bigger than the suggested size and also set their gain using the program on the computer so it's not getting to much bass. A lot of people also hit really good Db's with the type r's but its probably on bass tracks for only a few secs.. thats crazy though. They are great subs reguardless lol.

Haha, it's a prefab and its alittle smaller than spec. And my gain was set by a shop. No worries there. There are markings on my amp for the voltage level lol cant screw that up. They do get pretty loud. They're enough to shake my stearing wheel and shift knob. But it was only one sub and the replacement and the other original are going strong. Maybe just a bad sub? idk haha.

Look into vintage kicker equipment. The older the sub and amp, the more true wattage and power. That is a nice set up you got there. Old systems do not have as many saftey features though, so you can fry your entire system a lot easier than with the new ones.
