  • They could use this to break the sonic boom

  • Crazy Fast! Althogh I Was On An Airbus A319 That Was Full That Toke Off This Fast So Not To Amazing

  • someone wants to be an astronaut badly

  • musta been empty......i hate airplanes

  • Someone must have been late for supper

  • Could have been of the Weather maybe it was calm, The load was not heavy etc... But nice Video.

  • must have been a light flight

  • When is a take off roll EVER too fast? There is no point in leaving any runway behind you at the start of your roll, and getting to rotate sooner is better than later. If you could not rotate for some reason and had to try to stop, you have more room to do so.

  • @scubafly70 Is Southwest CRACKING under pressure??

  • balls to the walls lets get the fuck outa here

  • Was he sitting on the tarmac for a while?????

  • Up-!Up! and away! A light load that day perhaps? Neat.

  • Hey, this was a pretty fast takeoff! Neat video!

  • about 30 seconds from spool up till the time the wheels leave the ground

  • WOW :O

  • Man, that was fast, were they flying on nitroglycerine ??

  • love it when the plane takes off like that instead of the slow roll from taxi right into take off.

  • Holy Crap! That's a short takeoff!

  • 737 ftw!

  • I am sure this plane was not loaded at all :) This was pretty fast take off. Probably no passengers and cargo. Or some top secret engines that we don't know about :)

    Nice video too!

    Cheers

  • Wow he used less than half the runway. Crazy pilits these days. Lol

  • must have been damn close to empty gross

  • That's how they take off all the time from SNA.

  • Planes leave John Wayne this fast all the time....don't see what the big deal is.

  • Zero load

  • Captain: They've found me, i don't know how but they've found me. FLY FLY FLY!

  • Dang...20 seconds from the time the engines revved up until liftoff. That was fast.

  • Comment removed

  • That looked like a standard departure to me.

  • CFM56 (GE/Snecma) engines on all Southwest planes....well made engines in every respect.

  • @RevelsRyanScott What the fuck are you talking about?

  • What the fuck do you mean by that?

  • ...strong headwind; lotta wind noise

    around camera.

  • Can you blame them from leaving this shit hole city in a hurry! Not a fun place to live any longer! over run by whacked out corrupt politicians....

And yes I was born here!

  • @kebler823

Haha. You just made my day!

  • @zildjiandrummr12 lol!!!!!!

  • @kebler823 And Portland is a much nicer place without you here...

  • @kebler823 dude i live in portland!!

  • @kebler823 lol i live in pdx and i agree.

  • I was born there too....and I live here now. Don't appreciate your remarks, although I will agree with you about our politicians, surely you realize this city is a lot more than politics. I feel sad for anyone who doesn't get that.

  • @jeffspreecur Yeah it's overrun with homos too.

  • @kebler823 Me too

  • @kebler823 hell yeah lol

  • Must of have had a lot of head wind

  • What the hell was that? 50 Kill Streak Reward?

  • anyone know the rotation speed for a 737?

  • @IceViper777 over 9000

  • i lol'd

  • @IceViper777 Ur gonna be a pilot right?

  • yah, technically am one now. i want to fly 737's so i am trying to learn as much as I can about them

  • @IceViper777 That's awesome, I dont even know what I want to do yet once I go to college though lol

    Make another montage nao. :D

  • ya, you've got time if ur not even to college yet. look at aviation lulz. and idk, im kinda burned out on MW2 lately. i like how we just hijacked these comments... oops can i say hijacked around here? lololz

  • @IceViper777 Haha yeah. When did you choose aviation?

And I think everyone is burned out on MW2, all that random shit going on in that game, its hilarious. The forums are down the shitter as well.

  • @IceViper777

    MW2 ftw

    lol

  • @IceViper777 Love your comment! Yes, you can say hijacked on here. LOL

  • i chose it my senior year in high school

  • @IceViper777 I believe it's 305 km/h

  • You kidding, he $50.00 extra per foot of runway his airplane didn't touch. That is outstanding performance.

  • i didn't think that bitch was gonna make it off the ground!

  • i remember when southwest was at the city airport in Detroit. they used to paint the planes to look like killer whales.

  • they still do the scheme is called shamu one from sea world is southern california

  • @happyturtle18 oh. I miss seeing them planes take off.

  • Only explanantion i can think of for a take-off such as this was that this flight was delayed quite a bit. The pilot was probably trying to make up for lost time. I've been on planes in this fashion and i've seen the pilots push the aircraft to the max like the one shown here. You'd be surprised how much faster you get to your destination when full thrusts are utilized. Normally, most pilots operate a "casual" take-off & cruising speed. Very similar to someone using cruise control on there car.

  • @tomtalker2000 well ya dusnt it burn a ton of fuel?

  • judging by some of your posts, you are a pilot. Do you not always use full throttle on takeoff in the 737?

  • Lol thanks for blocking me after you asked a question. How mature, I hit a nerve, you poor baby. Lol didnt want me to tarnish your puny reputation LMAO

  • 737's at least the one's i've flown, rarely make that "twine sound" to there engines. However, I expect to hear that sound from Airbus A320's not 737's. So this pilot was pushing this plane, pretty damn hard..!!!

  • I've flown hundreds of various 737's, throughout the years. And I can tell you something right now folks, whether Burbank has a short runway or not, isn't the question here. Also, regardless of passenger weight capacity, this pilot had max thrusts going from the get go. You can hear it, right from the beginning, but more just before take-off.

  • Burbank(BUR) has many takeoffs like these. It's not an unusual thing for airplanes to take off so shortly after the takeoff roll begins. I a cool thing about BUR I saw an American Airlines MD-80 taking off for DFW (3hrs. away) and it almost looked liked it was gonna overshoot the runway. Anyway Great Video!!! I <3 Southwest.

  • You should come to Burbank(BUR), California there are many more takeoffs like seen here. We got a short runway but very popular airport for people and airlines. Southwest fly's here a lot and boy do they have a quick takeoff roll. :)

  • Actually, it does in a way. My mom's friend flies a 737-700 for airTran so I would know, plus I know about planes. But anyway, the amount of people on the plane does have to do with the time it takes for the plane to lift off. If the plane is full to maximum capacity, it'll take longer for it to take off because of all the peoples' weight. If the plane has hardly anyone at all, then it won't take as long for it to take off.

  • I bet it was empty.

  • wow, a really fast taeoff roll indeed

  • WOW fast takeoff roll.

  • Ok, you were wearing a thong, but still it's gay to send those pictures to another man. Stop trying to flirt with me it's NOT gunna happen.

  • You really gotta stop trying to flirt with me. And don't send me nude pics of your self anymore either; it's creepy and I'm not gay.

  • You guys - getting back on topic here, planes don't "lift themselves off the ground" perse. There is a very obvious flight control input to "rotate" the aircraft.

The signal to "rotate" is given by the pilot or FO not flying the takeoff, and is called out at a certain SPEED - not a certain distance. This aircraft simply got up to that speed rather quickly (could be a few reasons for that.)

I've got 2 flights on southwest tomorrow, so I'll let you know what I experience. :)

  • I'm disagreeing to an extent. Less weight on a aircraft can make a difference. ;)

  • Well it can. The less people = the lighter the plane, but I'd doubt it makes a huge difference.

  • I agree with maryo... yhe pilot really must hated to be in San Jose lol...

  • lol why? This is in Portland, OR. He was taking off to go TO San Jose. :P

  • It would depend on what the flaps setting, wind shear, runway length are. But I have taken off letting the plane lift on its own in airports much smaller than that. Plus 737's lift very well on their own.

  • pfiscool - I know plenty, and prefer to call them airliners. It reflects badly upon yourself and upbringing that you resort to abuse.

  • The pilot must HATE San Jose or something!!

  • awsome video and holy crap insane takeoff

  • man tht is a damn good plane boeing has built

  • your typical southwest pilot

  • 737's now have more fuel efficient and more powerful engines.

  • NICE!!!!

  • Based on the sound of the wind on the mic, I'd say he got off the ground so quick because, in addition to a light load, there probably was a strong headwind on the runway.

  • He didnt even make half the runway!

  • He didn't need to because he had enough speed and enough lift to take off

  • i like the takeoff.

  • Man he did'nt waste time getting out of there

  • that guy was moving

  • Must of had a light load to be off the ground that quick.

  • DAMN! THAT PLANE WAS OUT OF THERE!!!

  • So awesome as that was, imagine what some military planes would be able to do in the same conditions.

  • I flew this flight to san jose

  • i counted 18 seconds from when he released the brakes to takeoff

  • that plane needs to take a chill pill

  • WOW

  • COOL!!!! wish i was on it!!!!

  • Does PDX have an observation deck open to the public? If so; how do you get there?

  • I don't think so. Last time i was there (to pick up my Dad, i live in Portland). I wasn't even allowed close to the terminals.

  • I didn't think they did either. I can't think of anywhere at pdx you can get that view of runway 28L. Maybe the uploader works in the tower.

  • I don't know, Maybe? His channel just says he's a plane spotter, and aviation enthusiast.

  • It is just the top deck of the parking garage. It is definetely a great view.

  • I don't know if this policy exists at Southwest, but at some airlines there is a policy stating that if the aircraft must takeoff with a tailwind, it must do so with full takeoff power (not derated). That might be one reason for this really fast and REALLY cool takeoff.

  • nice video but i have a question. how many horizon planes were in the video and what was a wsu cougar plane doin there?

  • 3 letters

    WOW

  • A few factors to remember: Wind, if the wind (can hear it) was blowing it would reduce by a few knots it's t/o speed. Another is how he set the flaps. Lower the flaps the easier it is for takeoff. And lastely, his weight. If he was light, it would make for a rocket down the runway. Nice video.

  • uhh uhhh uhh ok

  • i see about 2 douzen of those fly over my house each day live five miles away from an airport. but they are 737-700 that fly over mine much diffoerent

  • talk about a short roll...

  • Uhhhhh......Alright then.

  • oh god another stupid woman

  • this is a good takeoff. i am going to add this as a favorite. thx for videoing this zildjiandrummr12

  • If I calculated correctly he began his roll at 19 seconds into the vid and rotated some 16-17 seconds later. At first I didn't think the vid looked like anything out of the ordinary but I would say a 17 second roll to rotation is PDQ :)

  • hey muncher you ever consider that airlines have policies to conserve fuel? that is why they calculate the load on every flight and use only the amount of power needed for every takeoff. if you had ever observed alaska airlines departing PAJN (juneau alaska) you would definitely have a different opinion of the 737-800! their routine departure there makes this one look like an ercoupe departing!

  • but at least it's not as boring as the A320... underpowered is an understatement!

  • You are clueless butmunch. The early models may have been a little enemic but the CFM-56 powered versions deffintately are not underpowered.

  • his brain is what's underpowered

  • you don't know much about airplanes do you? just ask jetblue and southwest who fares better in the winter months with their trans con flights? You will see lots of colorful JB birds in places like ICT, MCI, TUL for unscheduled fuel stops. not the 700 my friend. It is so overpowered that 90% of the time it uses reduced thrust t/o power and increase to climb power after V2 has been acquired. Once you get to cruise ALL A/C are boring!

  • focus my friend "down under"... the thrust remark was a rebuttal to your "underpowered" statement

  • I have taken off with a full load MDW-LAS, 31C, 5500ft strip w/ reduced T/O thrust...that's OVERPOWERED my friend.

  • Hell yea! SWA rules!

  • Congaleader2000 you are arguing which plane is more BORING? How do you even attempt to define the parameters of such an argument by being antagonistic with somebody over the internet? It's not gonna work man so don't even try.

  • tul? Tulsa international? Tulsa is amazing!

  • No. This is PDX (Portland, Oregon).

  • i know someone said jet blue flew to tul thats tulsa international.

  • yeah Portland!

  • must be very light load flight

  • short field takeoff?

  • A strong headwind would do it.

  • And if the plane was pointed to the east, you can get some serious E->W winds coming out of the Columbia Gorge, which would shorten the roll.

  • A short takeoff run like this just means that they are empty - no passengers and very low fuel load.

  • Well it is a flight to SJC, so I'm sure it wasnt exactly empty and a very low fuel load.

  • I've been on similar - DFW - CUN on AA 757-223. Not empty, but probably low fuel load.

  • This is a daily occurence at Love Field (DAL) in Dallas.....the buzz the sckyscrapers downtown on their way out. This is a typical departure for WN birds.

  • Thanks for your input.

  • So is your face. Planes are awesome.

  • The reason it rotated so quickly is because of the wind moving over the wings faster creating more lift from a windy day. The more wind you have the more lift you'll have, causing it to be a short take off roll. Weight isn't really an issue when the wind creates better lift for it to fly.

  • come to SNA. we see that all day everyday.

  • Thanks for the comment but thats not my point lol. This is a 11,000 foot runway. I was just trying to gather explanations for why this 73G departed so quick. Quickest I've ever seen a airliner that size depart at Portland. ;)

SNA is a great airport btw, I have seen videos of the departures, quite amazing.

  • thats a lot of Horizon planes

  • GO COUGS!

  • This airplane has got to be light with full thrust to do that.

Most of the 737NG test flights at KBFI rotate and takeoff around 3,500~4,000 feet

  • looks like a STOL aircraft!^^ amazing!

  • DAMN!

  • Hot damn, a 737 that thinks it's a Twin Otter

  • Come on, lets do this.!, my dinner is getting cold at home, the pilot said.!! LoL.

  • Comment removed

  • WOW A 737 that thinks it is a Dash 8. LOL Awesome job by the pilot. That is one awesome takeoff.

  • I see this a lot at STL too. Never happened to me, but I have seen SWA pilots yank on that thing almost as soon as the takeoff roll begins.

  • Wow!!! Great job from the pilot. Around 21 seconds of takeoff roll!
