  • I love your honesty. Thanks for being supportive for us little white kids :)

  • in my case my hair is very dry and stays in knots now that it has reached the middle of my back i keep it pulled up all the time so im getting dreads for the 2nd time so i dont have to worry with brushing it all the time. i got dreads when i was 22 and loved em yrs later im gonna do it again b4 i cut my hair all off cause after i get them i have 2 cut em out anyways

  • "Asshole lock" LMAO love it lol

  • hey! so first of all you are so insperational. i have had long hair my whole life and my hair means more to me then just hair, its part of who i am, and i have always wanted to dread it but cause i am white i was a little worried of how it would look and i would never want to cut it. so i really dont know wht to do

  • Your hot!!"

  • Love this video :) you are gorgeous, and your dreadlocks are beautiful!

  • ya i think dreads are sweet and im a white guy with them

  • I HAVE A QUESTION OPEN FOR ANY1: BEING THAT WHITE PPL HAVE TO WASH THEIR HAIR DAILY BECAUSE OF IT BEING SO OILY..DO THEIRE HAIR SMELLS WHEN TRYN TO GT DREADS? YOU KNOW YOU CANT WASH YOUR HAIR WITH DREADS LIKE THEY HAVE TO.

  • @KenyaH252 That's actually a misconception. You can wash your hair as often as you like with dreads. Some people just choose not to because they don't want to deal with having to "fix" the dreads as they become loose or unraveled. Wetting your hair more often actually helps it loc faster.

  • @AjaLocsItUp does tht answer white ppl hair or black ppl?? bkuz we do have diffrent hair types.

  • @KenyaH252 Both. Having dreads doesn't affect your ability to wash your hair, regardless of your hair type. People just tend to wash less because they're afraid of the dreads coming undone.

  • @KenyaH252 I am white with dreads and I wash my hair every three days with LUSH shampoo. At the end of the three days, my hair does smell a bit like a person, but it is not anything like armpit stank! I always smell nice and my hair will adjust to being washed every three days.

  • thank you for adding a little more love to the world ps im white and getting my lovley spirit locks 2 moro morning i cant wait. love light and laughter to all.

  • @mrsmelloopy Thanks for your comment and congrats on your new locs!

  • Hey, enjoyed your video and I agree with you on the why white folk grow dreads - I used to wonder about it when I started growing mine 5 yrs ago, but now I think its fine. I too like their enthusiasm about growing locs.

  • fuck dreadlocks look awesome i dont have them but am thinkingg of geting some cuz my hair is really poofy

  • Ancient history aside(when all people had dreads), black people(besides rastas) in America JUST starting wearing locks in the last few years, when rappers started wearing them, now they act like they own it? WTF. Whites were sporting dreads in the early 80s, WAY before the majority of blacks(rastas excluded) were. Dreads do not belong to black people, or Rastafarians, and they just sound ignorant when they say otherwise. Its hair, get the fuck over it. Ajalocsitup made some good points as well

  • I love you and this video. I am white and have had dreads for two years! I have never had any black people tell me that its not for my race. Most people love them and want to play with them. Most people that tell me to cut them off are older white people. I love my dreads and I have never been so comfortable with hair before!

  • I really love your dreadlocks and your video!

I've actually wanted dreadlocks before, but haven't because people tend to make fun of white people with dreadlocks (I'm half irish half cuban lol). Its sort of ironic because dreadlocks have been around for thousands of years, scots and celts wore dreads too :) that's what I like about them actually, is how many different cultures have worn them over time. Anyways, yours look great!

  • I view my dreads as a part of my spiritual growth more than "hip or cool", no offense, but as a white male with dreadlocks I also like the fact that my hair sets me apart from the stereotypical white people of my age. The fact that people wonder why I have dreads is actually refreshing to me. So I encourage those of you who wonder about a white person with dreads to ask yourselves why you're wondering about other people, rather than yourself! :)

  • I'm a better person after watching this video.

  • I'm white and I want dreads but I just got a buzzcut, how early do I have to start them? I've never done them before

  • I'm white and I want to get dreads and shaved my head, how early do I have to start them?

  • Your vids are very inspirational to me. I just got starter locs yesterday, and though I watched vids and was aware that it would be super flat on my head, I am still freaking out about it (I am trying not to cry, lol). How long did yours take to thicken up from what it was on day 1?

  • Im glad you named your locs xD - people were looking at me weird when i started calling out their names like "frankie" "corrdilious" "optimus prime (he was the one that locked up first and is currently the fattest)"

but yea, i love videos like these.

  • @Zen0okami Lol..optimus prime...he must be a very serious loc

  • I think the idea that white people can't have dreadlocks is caused due to ignorance. Alot of people think they are rasta only, when in reality, rasta adopted dreadlocks, they have exsisted for thousands of years. People need to stop thinking in terms of black and white, were are all people, and in that sense, to keep others from certain styles for nothing other than the colour of their skin, or the thoughts in their head is the wrong way to be, we should be togther in love, not apart in hate.

  • awe yur wonderful

  • just a little response maybe someone else mentioned it but the whole high maintenance thing has never been an issue for me. i dont crochet or use any tools i dont twist or play with them at all, Ive never had to back comb, i never use rubber bands or special treatments. I dont do it to look cool because others are doing it or because its a passing phase. i dont want to come across offensive towards you some people may find this vid a little patronising although im sure thats not your intention

  • It takes a weak heart to judge one another

  • so many ignorant blacks out there sry but its the truth nowadays.this girl isnt tho i can tell you that for sure.blacks do have a little more of the upper hand for the dreads part but EVERYONE gets dreads naturally.its not a black thing, its a human thing.i decided to grow natural dreads for my own personal preference.having dreadlocks makes you human.the people who say only blacks have dreads know nothing about the history.now as for blacks straightening their hair...theres a comeback.

  • You're awesome XD

  • Great video. If you don't mine I would just like to say that maintaining your locks is not necessary (unless ones wants too) I have strawberry blond hair and it very straight and fine and it locks on it's own no need to do anything but wash and separate them. I am in my one year of traditionally forming locks. Almost every ones hair will lock and knot up on it's own. Also a lot of Europeans (Celtic Scottish nose) had locks. It's part of human culture.

  • @capitaindouleur I definitely agree. Everyone's hair will loc up eventually if it's just left alone...some prefer maintaining them however for a neater look. I don't mind locs that aren't maintained, but I find my hair is easier to wash and style when it's maintained. Thanks for your comment!

  • Thinking about dreads. Anyways, you just rock. Wish you were my life coach.

  • @Claire30445 Thank you. Dreads are awesome. It's been 9 months that I've had mine now, and I don't regret it at all.

  • I THINK EVERYONE LIKES TO TRY NEW THINGS AND IT IS NOT JUST A HAIR STYLE IT REALLY DOES BECOME A JOURNEY. I DIDNT UNDERSTAND THAT AT FIRST AND REGARDLESS OF ONES SKIN COLOR THEY SHOULD OPT TO GO ON THAT WONDERFUL AND REWARDING JOURNEY IF THEY PLEASE. AND REMEMBER WE ALL WHOULD BE LOCD UP IF THERE WERE NO COMBS OR BRUSHES ;~)

  • Interesting view-point! In my humble opinion, I think the reason why many men and women get excited about their hang-time and enjoy whipping it around isn't because they are glad it's flowy, it's because it shows how much their hair has grown; its sort of a reward for sticking with their dreadlock journey. When you start off so short, as many people do, the fact that your hair is now long enough to hang on your shoulders and beyond is cause for celebration for many people!

  • i'm so glad that you changed your mind on white people having dreads because i've already had a lot of black people give me that look with my dreads in three weeks. i do have to say that the generalizing with white people's hair being easy to take care of kinda hurt because while my hair may be easier to style than a black person's hair it still gets very difficult to work with in the summer. Norwegian hair is very thick and difficult but dreads up nice : )

  • Im white, my locks are only 4 months old and im loving them! Ive had a huge afro for years and just was tired of it, so i locked my hair.My family was pissed about it, but oh well. I get nasty racial shit and whatever from not only them..but from all kinds of people. Honestly, i dont think id feel right without dreadlocks. I mean i could either look like bob ross, or have locks.. Much appreciation for doing this video! dreadlocks are dreadlocks. I like it that way.

  • lol "This is Charlie, & this is Bill" my locs are 1 year & i adjusted to the flaws of my hair, i got the thickest loc on one side, the other side is the thinnest loc lol, i oughta name mine as well

  • Thanks for making this video,I'm white and I want to get locs but my parents won't let me

  • LOL thumbs up if you were racist back then

  • i feel like the only guy here -.- lol

  • You are amazing :3

  • i totally agree and i enjoy watching white ppl with locs more too lol... i dunno y it is interesting :)

  • You are beautiful.....I am laughing at your idiot loc. I have this one very fat loc that will not lose weight....he will not curl or twist - he is an a-hole too, but i love him as much as i love the others LOL

  • @halfpint4341 Thank you for the compliment. You know what's funny? I've already forgotten which one the idiot loc is. I'm going to have to watch this video again to see where he was. They've all started behaving a bit better now so I lost track. And what's going on with your fat loc? Too many burgers? ;-)

  • hey, thanks for making this..

i just watched a couple of videos where the people were complaining about white people having dreadlocks and being offended by that and it made me feel picked on as a white person. it seems like there's a little bit of a double standard there.. if a white person made a video complaining about black people making their hair straight or something, i would imagine it would be considered unfair and racist. anyway, i just thougth that should be said.

  • @rite2bcreative There is a double standard. It's unfortunate, but it definitely exists. And you're right, I'm sure lots of black people would be offended if white people made videos saying that black people should stop straightening their hair and trying to be white.

Dreadlocks are for any and everyone. Race has nothing to do with it. Thanks for leaving your comment.

  • ur funny idiot lock im trying to get some locks so yeah keep up the good work

  • TOTALLY felt the <3 ...... :))

  • ur beautiful

  • @screwednoob thank you...

  • ...also blacks may get annoyed when they see whites with locks of all different sizes and an extreme amount of frizzyness b/c they see it as bad imitation (although locs are technically for everyone). For blacks it may be a freeing process but not necessarily a spiritual one. Forgot where i was going with this...nice video

  • I think you hit the nail on the head when you said some black people feel like they "have to" get locks and question why some white people would "choose to" get locks. For a lot of black women...and men its simply about having more variety with styling using their own hair and without chemically altering it. There is some effort in keeping them very neat, uniform, and clean. They feel as if white people already have the ability to do plently of things with their hair without getting locs

  • ...hair but I don't hate on people with straight hair who curl theirs. Like you said hair is hair. Enjoying your videos :) x

  • lol@asshole loc. I'm glad you're not racist anymore lol I agree with what you are saying on this issue. Dreadlocks is a hair style and shouldn't be limited to one race. The issue seems to be coming from people who are insecure about their hair and are annoyed because they feel like they 'have' to loc theirs and get angry because others 'choose' to do it. I am not black and some might say I'm not in the position to comment but I do know what it is like to have MAJOR insecurites about my curly...

  • @BrunetteBarbie21 At this point in my life, I love seeing ANYBODY with dreadlocks. It's kinda like "Oh cool, you have locs, so do I!!! Come be my friend!!!" lol.

Like I said, it's something that should unite us, but instead some people feel the need to "claim" the hairstyle and call it their own. Everyone's hair can matt, just because black people's hair may matt up more quickly doesn't mean it's exclusive to us. Sheesh! ;-)

  • @AjaLocsItUp True! My hair mats like hell if I don't brush it for a couple of days lol I can only brush it when it's wet though and with heaps of conditioner.

  • as u get older u see things differently. the more u learn the more u begin to understand things. i dont discriminate against people from other races who get dreads. but yet you dont see people makin a big deal when black girls gettin straight long weaves that mimic caucaisian womens hair. therefore, i think people are just ignorant & stop allowing things to keep us racially divided.

  • @PrettiBoiShai Yeah, some people just look for any reason to keep us all separated. When I first went natural, black people stayed calling me "Jill Scott" and "Erykah Badu." I remember thinking, umm, look at that girl across the street with the blonde weave down her back. Why don't you call HER Beyonce? The thought process there is mind boggling.

  • @PrettiBoiShai agree completely.

  • Sorry. I've always had and still have issues seeing whites with dreads lol it just makes their hair look more disgusting. How is that even possible to do with their hair? a bunch of blond snakes. ew

  • @NaturesGirl85 I'm sorry you feel that way. Actually, it's possible for anyone to form dreadlocks, regardless of race. All you need is hair and time.

  • @NaturesGirl85 Blonde snakes. What about the brunettes or redheads? Not all white people have straight blonde hair.

  • @BrunetteBarbie21 ok brown snakes and copperheads XD

  • That's hilarious! I named two of my locs as well in the beginning. One is Trevor, the other is Lucille. I swear my fiance wanted to have me committed lol :D

  • @misslocdnloaded You better tell your fiance to get with it!! Locs can have names just like people! :-)

  • Great video and great locks. Where I live, people from the African community (and especially the ones with locks) respond really positively to my dreads, some come up to me in the street and compliment me which is really nice of them, I don't know if it's different in the USA and why, but like you said it's just hair... Enjoy your journey, I think it's better that you started off with short locks, you'll get to love them even more as you watch them grow and evolve like your personality :)

  • @Rrrrrrrrright The dynamics between white people and African-Americans will always be somewhat different in the US than in other countries just because of the history of slavery and segregation. It will change when people decide to let go of the past.

I agree with you too..I'm glad I decided to loc my hair now instead of waiting for the "perfect length." This way, I'll get to see them grow and go through their different lengths and stages. I'm happy with my decision. Thanks for your comment. =)

  • I don't really have an issue with white folk loc'ing their hair, I do get a bit offended when they tell me what I need to be doing to loc my hair (that has happened to me on a few occasions). Because locs are an indigenous style to African blood, I was just a little turned off when a white girl was trying to school me. Yea, hangtime is definitely a goal a lot of loc wearers wish to achieve, hell I'm looking forward to it as well. But I'm also enjoying the "short" stage...to each is own.

  • @Thinknappythoughts Thanks for commenting! I just believe that locs should bring us closer in that we're all going through the same journey with them, whether or not we have different hair textures, and regardless of who wore them "first." Locs are so much fun, and for people to still hold the belief that they're a "black" hairstyle will only keep us separated and narrow minded. Hairstyles are hairstyles.
