  • I need to work on my singlee jumps

  • The lift the knees seams neat I want to learn that one

  • no need for warming up..i just do stretching for flexibility and grab my rope.

  • i have NEVER been a fan of warmups. they waste my time and drain my endurance and motivation for the main part of the workout. i am a fan of strenght, skill and agility, so i prefer doing everything fresh. i am 19 years old. i have exercised according to GTG described in the book 'the naked warrior', using exercises from convict conditioning for quite some time. the only damage i have suffered so far is that my right ankle is crackling when i walk (from swordsmanship) and my elbow (from the gym)

  • @CrystaTiBoha ..too (because i was using the bench for heavy-duty biceps training. now i know better- i use the bodyweight). also, usually when i pick up some training routine for a body part, i WANT to make my muscles sore. then i train intensively through the pain to bitch-slap my body and make it develop faster. i think that's because my ego is very strong and my id very weak in my psyche. i suppose my body improves faster if it knows it wont ever get a warning before the punishment.

  • @CrystaTiBoha am i ruining my body? i cant tell that yet myself. i want to hear your feedback. note that i have never torn a muscle, never had a fracture and never had a dislocated/acutely damaged joint.

  • @CrystaTiBoha Hey I understand. Remember even Olympians warm up. It increases neural drive & warms up the tissue, which essentially means it not only means you will prevent more injuries, but you will also perform better with a good warm up. I remember feeling how you felt when I was 19, all the way into my mid twenties. Things change, better to develop good habits now. Cheers. J

  • does jump rope help you grow?

  • Awesome! Thanks JonnyFitnessNYC.

  • This video is 100% worthless. You spend half your time with a warmup, then when it's finally time to teach HOW to jump rope, you don't teach anything. You just *do* it and expect that we are psychic enough to figure out HOW you get the rope to coincide with the jump.

For those of us who have major problems with timing and always hitting our feet with the rope, this doesn't help at all.

  • @haploid2k Wow! Thanks for your super honest reply, appreciate it. The timing takes practice, there is not much coaching information that is going to help except to say: keep trying and don't get frustrated when you mess up. Often, the rope slows down after a few jump, and then you jump on it. Speed the rope up, or wait a little longer to jump. Make sense?

  • Thanks for this nice video, I was looking for an explanation about the rope length and found it here..

  • hey! this is a really great tutorial.btw i wanna ask.should i do it using my wrist or your method? which includes a little motion on your arm region,

  • @omg12629 Thanks for the comment and compliment! It is ok to use your wrist a little bit more than I do, not going to kill you! But minimizing wrist motion allows the larger shoulder muscles to do more of the work, making the motion more efficient.

  • can u plesse explain in depth about the length of rope

i know u mention in first video; but any more detail/

  • @casketofdog Sure! Basically, if you stand ON the center of the rope and pull the handles straight up, they should come to about your arm pits, that is a good length!

  • I am curious what is a good shoe for jumping that wont make you kill anyone that touches them? $100 for a pair of running shoes is insane to me.

  • @Twisted86 You can build up your feet to the point where you can jump rope barefoot! (Although, to be safe, you need to progress to this point, and when the rope hits your foot it stings!) I agree, there is no need to spend $100 on running shoes, you can find a pair for $50, there are no special requirements of your sneakers to be able to jump rope in them, just make sure they fit and are comfortable (and ideally, jump rope on a softer surface, not concrete, to prevent injuries from impact).

  • @JonnyFitnessNYC

I must admit I jump on carpet but its under concrete. Reason I was thinking of getting more cushion for my shoes. Specially with it being 50F all day and 20-30F at night makes doing it outside not enjoyable. Appreciate your reply and will see if I can find some good shoes today.

Jump roping for the past month and hope to continue till summer to build up my endurance. Then run/jump depending on my mood :)

  • @Twisted86 Sounds like a good plan! Let me know how you are doing :-)

  • im currently traveling and have been looking for something cheap and portable to keep me fit while on my travels, my brother said i should take up jump rope. I felt a bit stupid searching 'how do i jump rope' but im glad i found your video, you have answered every question i was asking in my head and shown me what i need to do. Great video, you helped me sooooo much.

  • @Nitenichiryu Thanks for the awesome comment! I am so glad you listened to your brother, and didn't listen to the silly voice in your head that said you were stupid! Jump rope is hard to beat for effectiveness, portability, and cost. Take care and let me know how you are doing! JF

  • you really helped me, thanks

  • @MAFaried Awesome! THank you so much for the nice comment, it is my pleasure!

  • Looking to get proficient with this and incorporate it with Tabata workouts. Good video thanks.

  • @NorEEzta My pleasure! LOVE tabata. Awesome!

  • good question! It is a sparq jump rope, which is a brand owned by Nike. The rope is a PVC covered steel cable! Very durable and sturdy, a great value for $20.

  • Nice video. What sort of rope are you using? I want to use something a little heavier than what I am using now. Your's seems heavier and a little more stable than the one I have (plastic intermediate everlast).

  • very good teacher, check out my jump rope videos for some feedback please, thank you

  • Also I'm thinking of making an excersice routine (to lose weight) of jumping rope, fast-walking, bike, abs, and push-ups. ¿Do i have to warm up specifically for each one of those excercises? ¿Do i have to make them in a special order?

  • GREAT QUESTION! To be on the safe side, every time you are moving in a new direction, using a new joint, you should do at least a little bit of a warm up. This helps reduce risk and increase strength...

  • Hi! Loved your video, i'd been searching for warm ups to jum rope all over the internet an this is the best answer i could get.

I just have some confusion. See, i know you have to warm up, and you say in your video tat streching comes AFTER all excecise. ¿What i it then what people call 'cool down' (opposed to warm-up)? when should i do it?

  • Cool down comes after you are done doing aerobic exercise, it allows the heart to slow down gradually. The cool down is not as important as the warm up for the general population, although people with heart issues will want to be very careful and precise regarding how they stimulate their heart....

  • My rope when i bought it a week or so ago was really bent cos of the way it was packaged, should i somehow straighten it or not bother?

  • Try tuggin on it a little bit. If it is a little bent, it shouldn't be a problem. Give it a shot and let me know how it goes.

  • so everything was goin' ok but it was the first time in 10 years i did this

    so i sucked :p

it wil go better in a few weeks probaly ^^

ps: srry for the bad english :p

  • Great clips, all 3 very clear cheers

  • My rope when i bought it a week or so ago was really bent cos of the way it was packaged, should i somehow straighten it or not bother?

  • Dude we do jumproping to warm up not warm up to jumprope:P confused haha. only great vid though warm up is a bit soft.

  • Wow, that is awesome man. Thanks for the comment. Congratulations to you. Feel free to subsribe to my channel, will have alot more cool workout videos coming out soon....

  • I watched this two weeks ago. I had NEVER been able to jump rope before. Your vid explained it very well and now I'm up to 20 straight minutes a day and it's getting my cardio ready for boxing far better than running ever could. Thanks man, your video helped me out a lot!

  • Dude, i usually jump 5- 10 min... and i got carried away and jumped for 25 and today my shin hurts like crazy. any advise? i wish i saw that warmup thing before.

  • Describe hurt like crazy?

At best you have a muscle strain, at worst you have a shin fracture.

Either way, if the pain last more than 72 hours, or it is very intense pain, you need to see a doctor asap.

Either way, you should take anti-inflammattories and ice your shins.

Either way, You will be fine, just be sure to rest too.

  • lol you're so short... are you like 5'6"

  • What! I am 5' 10 and 3/4's. HA!

  • douche bag!!

  • How did you know I as a douche bag! Amazing.

  • VERY sound advice! Good stuff man.
