It starts with a plane crash in the middle of the ocean. You play Jack, the only survivor of the crash, who goes down in a submarine into the underwater city known as Rapture. You soon make contact with a man named Atlas (via radio), whose family was taken by Andrew Ryan, the ruler of the city. He'll help you escape if you help him save his family. He guides you through the wreckage of the once beautiful city while filling you in on what happened and making sure you stay alive.

But the city is the home of Splicers, people who altered their DNA (with plasmids) for power and became insane and disfugured from it. You must fight them through the different levels of the game to escape the city and return to the surface. You use various weapons and plasmids to help you in this feat, along with Atlas' help. That's about all I can type without giving too much away, but you can look it up in more detail on the bioshock wiki.

The intro fits really well with how slow the scenes were shown. Some more creepy splicers in the shadows could be used.
